"The Rain Song" is just perfection. In their top 5 songs I reckon. A master-class in arrangement, performance, production, everything. It's just glorious to listen to.
A masterpiece.
You will learn my friend that your favorite song or your favorite album is whatever Zeppelin you're listening to at the moment love your reactions
This Rain song is a beautiful love song! They can do it all!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite LZ album because Pageys production level and the beautiful layers of guitars, and the Song Remains the Same, The Rain Song ,Over the Hills and Far Away, also love The Ocean..you did react to the Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song live version together, and Jimmy was not really into acid he unfortunately got into heroin and very heavy boozing and he has been completely clean for decades now and I told you how he drinks water like crazy now and is into KFC, and he is completely healthy and looks great now, Jimmy never gave a rats ass about Pete Townsend comments because Pete was very jealous at how much bigger LZ became than them..The Rain Song is my favorite song by them, George Harrison recommended to them that they need to do a ballad and Jimmy came out with the masterful The Rain Song!
The Crunge is a tribute to James Brown and Bonham had a lot of influence in the funky stuff because he was a huge Motown fan, I don't think you have realized yet Rory that LZ played almost every genre and style of music lol
And the song does not have a bridge. Check out Get On Up by James Brown.
@@gold98gtp Very true! lol👏🏻
@@gold98gtp Where is it?
I like that you know about Otis Redding. Zepplin was HEAVILY influenced by Blues and some R&B. It’s plastered throughout all their albums. Some more than others.
Done on a dare from George Harrison. He thought Page couldn't write a ballad, and Page delivered this epic.
Like most of their "odd numbered" albums, Zep moved into major experimentation, diverging from past album successes, in an effort to expand their musical palette and stake new ground. Having completed LZ4, and planted their flag in the ground with Stairway ("We're unquestionably the greatest band in the world"), they did the opposite of what most bands would do: they went in completely new directions. Brilliantly. This album lays the groundwork for a great deal of what follows in future albums. Perhaps their most "cross-over" album until In Through The Out Door.
Just wonder where it would have went had bonzo not left us. Page went own with the firm, Coverdale page, at least one soundtrack and more I'm sure. Plant had his solo stuff, the honey drippers ( to u remember that it just hit me and I think that's what it was called and if I remember
Correctly he and page did a project. Not sure about jpj but I know he had to go something. All I heard I liked and ur right in thru the outdoor was a transition to something . just the name and the many different sleeves and covers the album had and then the music the world had became their stage and the cosmos there musical future. Could wake up and say what u won't to do today anything u want and then do it like only Zeppelin could. They could not go on if anyone of them left.
Over The Hills and Far Away is KILLER!
good to see you back on what you have some knowledge on , not querying whether the earth is flat or not ffs !!
The Song Remains the Same is Also the Name of the Led Zeppelin Movie!!!
So much so much so much!!
To my knowledge, LSD wasn't a substance of choice during their time. TSRTS is beautifully layered; it was intended to be an instrumental until Robert added lyrics about how it didn't matter where they went, a common form of communication was music. Robert's voice is different; he's not the 19-year old wailer he was; time, poor vocal habits and bad habits in general, not to mention constant touring, damaged his vocal cords and he would have surgery in either 1972 or 1973. Robert considered The Rain Song one of his favorite vocal performances. The song came about after George Harrison made the comment that Zep didn't have any ballads so Jimmy wrote The Rain Song. I love the little "twang" that often made you chuckle; to me, it sounds like that drop of sour amidst the sweet to keep the balance. The song overall is beauty beyond comprehension. I love Over The Hills. Again, so many guitar layers, both acoustic and electric. There are isolated tracks out there of some of the guitar layers that are fascinating to listen to. I adore The Crunge. It was their playful take on James Brown, who would often tell his band to "take me to the bridge" but the joke here is this song has no bridge, hence Robert's comment about trying to find it. Some thought they were taking the piss but, clearly, it was meant to be a bit of fun. Yes, Robert threw in the Otis Redding line and from what I've read, Bonzo was a big fan of soul music, R&B, and Motown. At one point, Jimmy thought it would be fun to create a dance for The Crunge, a la "The Twist" and even wanted a set of fake dance moves drawn up that could be included with each album but unfortunately, it would've been expensive and they didn't have the time.
Good stuff
Its mostly played on a 12 string in studio. Live its all played on the 12 string double neck with the bottom 6 str tuned to an open chord set for The Rain Song he plays after this one
Another Zeppelin FIRE album! Thanks Rory!!
Houses of the Holy is for me the freshest sounding of Led Zep’s albums. Greatly underrated.
When i heard this for the first time as a teen in the 70s I had to learn it on the guitar i was lucky enough to have a friend that showed me how to play it cause there was no youtube then. You can learn anything now . Its the one song i never forgot. Sorry but i paused you mid way and had to play it through The first time i hit the last note clean play through i think i cried I saw you play alittle the other day . If you want to learn bad enough you can.
Dancing days is my fav out of these
Rory you have no idea how amazing it was to first experience the fullness of this band. it's just the light of god working through them all. that's what jimmy said. he would just get these rifs and he would put them them into action. so awesome!!!! love you brother keep the love going 😀
Watch The Song Remains The Same/The Rain Song live at MSG in 1973!
He did the video ages ago, go to his You Tube playlist and go to all the LZ songs he did and its there
I heard (or saw) Robert say he sped up his vocals (experimenting) on some of the songs on this album. He wasnt happy with it but for some reason (Contract deadline) they had to release the album. His intentions were to re-record his vocals or maybe to slow them down to the original speed. I like the song remains the same and my favorite, rain song, better live. His voice isnt so high pitched live. Plants voiced changed (surgery) and he changed his style of singing around this time (1973) He had no choice
Your reactions are spot on mate. Where's that confounded bridge haha...James Brown tribute
I think their next album Physical Graffiti is their best album by far.
The disparaging remarks Townshend made about Zeppelin were sometime in the '90's, judging on how Pete looks in the clip. He's never been afraid to throw the odd ridiculous comment in amongst his mostly intelligent and thoughtful musings. It's funny because I can swear to have seen or read him speaking about Zeppelin in glowing terms in other occasions.
I reckon there's a few Who albums you might just get into, Rory. They can be an acquired taste. Massively influential and a force of nature on-stage in their peak years.
Anyway...sorry to derail the thread.
No Quarter has rumblings of Tolkien in it. As with other songs from Zeppelin's past. "Path of the Dead" and taking the Path that no one knows...
I was talking about The Rain Song
Jimmy Page was an amazing producer. I don't think they did acid (LSD) at all, actually. Later on, Jimmy had a heroin addiction which he beat, Bonzo was a drinker, I doubt that Jonesy had any drug habits, and Robert probably smoked and drank a bit, who knows? But acid, I doubt it.
The name of "Houses of the Holy" also refers to the novel of J.R. Tolkien's Lord of the rings ..
Listen to Jimi Hendrix voodoo child live at Woodstock. You gotta you’ll love it
The crunch is Zeppelin's tribute to James Brown John Bonham was into Punk and Funk really really heavy
*The Crunge
Yes ur right crunge I got big thumbs
and zep was not trapped in any limitation of expression! It's was right
Zep was Tight, Messy, Foolish, Good, Quality, Experience, Improvement, Exploration, Fail and Showcase it all the end of the day! XD
