Wow, thank you for the video, I've been struggling with stripping powder coating, this other guy mixed like 5 chemicals I didn't have, this is way easier
Hi mate.tnx lot for great video.after I watch this video I done my factory Nissan bull bar with 3 cans of this CRC product straight to bare metal no problem. Then bit sanding .highly recommended this product.tnx Russell 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
There’s a new product out called RIM STRIPPER but it’s way too expensive but if you soak a car wheel in it all the powder coated stuff just falls off, it’s $700 for 5 gallons
Just an update. I believe in some countries they have removed the chemical from this product that makes it effective on powder coated. I know that it still works here in Australia. Dichloromethane I believe it is. So probably better to check and see if the product sold in your country still has this chemical in it.
100% works ,ive herd basically any thing containg 'dichloromethane' in a 30%+(min) is what removes the powdercoat, thank you for the vid, just saved me 175+ getting 2 very small parts soda or glass blasted,ps took some hard scraching with the plastic side of the brush n not the brush for me,but i think cos its almost 100c temp day in west aus & the crc was drying way to fast to have time to eat into the coating effectivly, but yep 100%job done, awsome share vid bro thankyou
Yeah it does dry out quickly in hot weather. A guy in another comment suggested spraying them, and then putting them in a plastic bag, or ice cream container or something, so it can continue to eat into the powdercoat without drying out.
@@russellpritchard743 yes air is your enemy. Spray them and then put them in a sandwich/bread bag and twist it up tight. Then you can actually massage it with hands. Hopefully it doesn't eat through plastic bags? I use "Great Value" Plastic Bread Bags for this kind of thing. One thing i like is that you're not using mechanical means which can damage sensitive parts or change dimensional tolerances.
Can this technique need to be used on a small patch of powder coating without ruining the coating that surrounds the area, if taped off properly? The guys who powder coated my bike covered the brake assembly stems, and they're supposed to be bare metal. I can't install my brakes until I remove the coating.
hi There are 2 ways chemicals strip powder coat . 1/ dissolving the coating 2 /separating the coating from substrate At least 3 different paint stripper types 1x new version almost does not work 2x older chemicals [1 is banned in the USA ] All 3 chemicals are in Aust.
SANDBLASTING will not remove the sh*t either. I just paid 800 dollars today to TRY to have PC removed from my ATV trailer and it would not blast off, even in an industrial blaster, which is why Im looking at videos of how to do it myself.
Yes it works just fine on aluminium. I have used it on aluminium as many times as I have on steel, and have never had any problems with it damaging the aluminium.
@@cagri7184I have never had it affect steel either. Mind you, you need to paint, or re-powdercoat steel very quickly, as it starts to rust very quickly. The bracket in the video was steel. It is now re-powdercoated, and re-installed on the bike.
Note to self, don’t use gasket stripper to clean my nicely powder coated valve cover gasket surface 😮. Good to know tho. I’m about to redo my rear calipers !
Been working for me for years. Maybe where you live, they use different ingredients? I know in some countries, certain chemicals are banned, and some companies have to change the recipe for their products for sale in those countries. Maybe that is the case where you are? I am in Australia, and it works great here.
Are you 100% sure that's powdercoat on you part? The way it's reacting it looks like paint. I'm in Australia, bought the same CRC product and it isn't stripping my powdercoated part.
Really? That’s what you’re worried about? I don’t know where you live, but a can of gasket stripper doesn’t cost anywhere near $25 here. Besides, it’s just an off cut of board that I use for all sorts of odd jobs like this on. I’m still using it to this day.

Thanks a lot! I will definately try this.

Precisely! "Methylene Chloride" by its other name. Used to decaffeinate coffee beans but we CANNOT BUY IT!
Thanks bro ! Great job !

Be careful about breathing that stuff in though - probably be a good idea to wear a pro paint respirator, I'm sure it does a number on your lungs.
Awesome new trick to add to my arsenal. 👏 😎
Will you recommend this for brembo calipers?
Champion - thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks bro. Didn’t know this method and purchased also a can of casket removal.
Did it work for you Stefan?
Very good !! will do Wondering if you could spray then place in baggy or wrap in foil for better penitration less spray.
that would probably work. It does dry out quickly, especially in hot weather, and I'm sure putting it in a bag would minimise that. Good idea. Thanks.
could you use a pressure washer to clean it off after spraying it with the CRC Gasket Stripper
Yes you can

Idk
Does it hurt chrome?

Can I use this on my alloy wheels? I have 30 years of baked up brake dust and corrosion at the back of the wheel.
Yes I have used it on alloy wheels with no problems.
How i can remove podwer coating paint from led bulb chip made by aluminium

Don't have the right people doing it. I've taken off triple powder coat off a 10000 gallon tank in less than an hour with a blast gun
Thankyou awesome
I want to repaint my powder coated metal table
Wow
gonna give this a go. i hope my part wasnt blasted before it happend (y)
Great Video ! Do you know if this would damage aluminum? I am planning to try this on aluminum wheels . Cheers !
Yes it works just fine on aluminium. I have used it on aluminium as many times as I have on steel, and have never had any problems with it damaging the aluminium.
@@russellpritchard743 what about steel? did anything happen bad to steel. I'm planning to use it on my old bicycle

Didn't do anything to my powder coated aluminum wheels because coats are darn thick. Primer/Color/Clear adds up to ~1/32 to 1/16 inch.
How did you get it off bro
Sames im running out of ideas here. My sandblaster with aluminum oxide media couldn’t even do it. 🤦🏻♂️
Does not work any more. CRC changed the formula.
When did they change it? I've been using that stuff for years.
It still works, been doing it myself
not
I would have had that powder coat of in 3 mins with my sandblasting gun
Note to self, don’t use gasket stripper to clean my nicely powder coated valve cover gasket surface 😮. Good to know tho. I’m about to redo my rear calipers !
I just tried and does not work so don’t know how it worked with you.

Yeah that may be exactly right. They just changed the formula on ours due to regulations and now it doesn’t work

@@foesix3 yep, definitely powdercoat. I had that part, and a few other parts all powdercoated together at the same time.
You used a $25 can to remove some paint but you ruined your MDF board!!! You could have put a piece of cardboard under it.
