Shōgun is an American historical drama limited series created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell. The novel was previously adapted into a 1980 limited series. The series premiered with its first two episodes on February 27, 2024, on Hulu and FX, with new episodes of the 10-episode series then releasing weekly. Shōgun follows "the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious woman samurai; John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyō, at odds with his own dangerous political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance".
Clavell's Shōgun is a fictionalized version of real events and history. Told in both Japanese and English, the English portion of the dialog was actually in Portuguese. The character of Blackthorne is loosely based on the historical English navigator William Adams, who in Japan rose to become a samurai under the strongest powerful daimyō and later the founder and first shōgun of the Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, whose life and reign lasted from 1543 to 1616 and on whom Shōgun's character Yoshii Toranaga is based.

It's been a long time since I last had any discussions about game (I don't like hunting, my Grandfather would talk about it before he got too old to go out, and he also passed 14 years ago), but I assume the pheasant would have been field dressed (removing the innards) immediately/soon after catching, well before gifting it to Blackthorne, but the bird would have been expected to be defeathered at home. So, the gut biome shouldn't have been contributing to the rot. Instead, it could be the clime and moisture or maybe tiny mites on the feathers that start the process. You can dry age poultry/game birds, and I think it can be done without salt, but it should be done in dry and cold air. The outer layers would be cut off (just like the outer layers of dry aged red meat) before cooking. I believe that would tamper the gamey flavor and tenderize the meat.

I know I am making too many comments hopefully its good for the SEO lol . But I think the issue with why its 8 episodes and not 20, is because shows are so much more expensive. 3 body was 20 million PER EPISODE, shogun probably isn't that far off.
I am a huge star gate fan, those shows were made with a string budget one some episodes, and there were episodes with great acting mind you in them just characters acting but now its so expensive and there is a lot of competition for your attention.

yeah the drying up process makes no sense... the bird would be full of maggots, the meat is totally spoiled.
Also you said the gray rock method but Buntaro is probably going to go after their son if he can't get anything out of her... that will be dark

I am not sure if Toranaga knows or cares that Marico's husband is an a-hole. He even said that he has the right to do what he wants to do with his wife, the issue was that she is his translator, so basically if she wasn't... he wouldn't care if she gets abused.
On the other hand I think that Amber is right that the expectation from Buntaro is that he is just a good swordsman... which will probably bite Toranaga

Sorry earthquake happens all the time in Japan and so people do not immediately connect with devine intervention. If it was a solar eclipe maybe but not an earthquake.
