Hi Paul. I loved that part of this video where you showed the actual mealies, ghastly little critters! I’ve had some orchids & houseplants where I see those tiny white things and never knew whether they’re anything to do with mealies but now I know, thanks. I disposed of the orchids and a few props because I’m sick of fighting a losing battle. I feel so much better now they are gone, thanks to another CZcamsr who did the very same thing. Now I can justify my latest order (lipstick plant black pagoda, Pellionia & monkey tail cactus) which are coming in the next couple of days, can’t wait!!! Thanks for sharing your maintenance chores with us, as always, interesting.

I’ve got 2 echeverias and 2 more that I don’t know the name of in water with a diluted nutrient solution. The echeverias are close to a daylight shop light and they love it. I change the water out once a week and wash their containers because the algae builds up quick. Thank you for all of your content.

Sometimes I put Leca as a base to pon plants so I can see when they need water. Thanks for your videos. With smaller plants that have any pests I soak the entire plant in soapy water for 5 minutes and then run it under the tap and then spray. I have done this a few times on different plants and they have never come back. With bigger plants I take them outside and spray with the hose or in the shower and then treat. All that water pressure helps get rid of the majority of them.

I use Tetra brand Algae Control in my wicking containers for my African Violets and it really helps a lot! It’s only 1 drop per gallon each time you add water. I get it at my local Walmart so it’s pretty easy to find.

Just found your channel today. I have 31 tropical plants and 7 succulents. I just started transferring all of them to LECA. I’m about half way through. Some of my bigger plants make me a little nervous and finding decent pots with reservoirs that are large has been a challenge, but I’ve gotten creative! Speaking of creative…..acrylic yarn???? That’s is so cool! Never heard of that until today! Do you grow your tropicals that way too? Also, I had a panic attack because I found Thripes and spider mites in my 2 fav plants. My Alocasia Jacklyn and my Lickety Split Philo. So of course I freaked out and started a laborious task of 3 different treatments each spaced 5 days apart for 3 cycles!! I grouped them into 3 groups and it looks like I will be at this in my shower til the end of May! So you just use alcohol for everything???? And it works effectively long term? I’m dying to know!! I’m going to binge watch more of what you have on your channel. You have a calm and simple approach that I enjoy!

Yay!!!! Welcome and thank you so much!!! Plants should be fun, right??? Yup, I just use 70% isopropyl alcohol for pests. Since it evaporates quickly, I haven’t had any adverse affects with any of the plants. Just a few treatments usually does the trick. Thrips can be a challenge - I’ve had to add just a drop of dish soap for them in particular. It helps bind to the bugs and removes any waxy coatings to allow the alcohol to penetrate. The acrylic yarn was something I just stumbled across when propagating. I haven’t looked back since then. I grow all types of plants in it and for most, it works incredibly well - especially succulents, aroids, Hoya, Dischidia, coleus….and so many others. So happy you’re here!!!! 😃😃😃🌿🌿🌿

A little back history for me, I’m 64 and while being gloriously successful in my outdoor flowers I have always had a brown thumb when it came to houseplants. This is a new renewed interest that my girlfriend and I have gotten into just since February. We tend to be all in when we do something so I have spent a lot of time and money and then learned about LECA so all of that has been costly! So losing a plant makes me sick for more reasons than one! 😅. And now that I’m hooked I feel like the mother of a 30 kids! Our husbands think we are funny! Pots, lights, humidifiers, and SHELVING!! So getting my first round of pests so early in the game about gave me a nervous breakdown! And then of course YOU TUBE! One day I learn something and the next I learn that’s not a good thing! Rabbit holes! I’m starting to relax a little now and just enjoy the journey with hopefully lots of successes and undoubtedly some disappointments too! Thanks for your quick reply! I’m getting out my alcohol tonight!! 😂🪴🌱

Hmmm. Depending on the species, they may just need more humidity until they adjust. Sometimes I would put them in a plastic bag to keep the humidity higher. Might help get them started. Let me know how it goes. 😃👍🏼

Do you happen to have blue chalk sticks in semi hydro? I bought a huge pot full last summer and they are dying off and look horrid. I have tried water propagation and failed. Watching this video, I wondered how they would do in semi hydro.

I have try in waterculture with some phalenopsis orchids and succulents. The orchids I had 50% successful but the suculents I just have one sucess but it doesn´t grow and it loose a lot of the leaves; it has been 6 months were it stabilice but without any growing. I try your yarn method but the yarn I bought had a lot of pigment that make my plants die (it was a cheap one)
