Contrary to popular media, Yasuke was never appointed a samurai or anything of the like, he only served as a vassal under Oda Nobunaga and often carried his tools and such. Though this game could be cool if done right, but its ubisoft and they haven't made a good AC game in years.
A samurai is literally a vassal.

And I don't think it matters at all. All the people complaining about historical accuracy and how he wasn't actually a samurai I don't think ever played an assassin's creed game to know that these games were never 100% historically accurate anyway and make stories up or change things around. Like for example, George Washington gets a freaking peice of eden in AC3 which is alien technology. Like that's not historically accurate LOL. Him being a samurai is just thematically cooler and fits better in the story and dynamic as you have a shinobi, and samurai. It would be stupid if it was like "Hey, we have a shinobi, and a samurai but he's not actually a samurai"

The character in nioh is based on a character from history called William Adams who was an english navigator who was one of the first to reach japan and then over time became a high ranked samurai
Not only are they depicting the court jester as a samurai, but they have also made him look African American with dreads.

Choosing Yasuke to be the MC of the game is just dumb. Not only is it the first real historical figure to be a main character in an AC game, but his shogunate was completely unnotable. It’s actually debatable whether he was really a samurai at all. Yet they choose him of the thousands of options to be the MC? Yikes
There was also a white samurai. Who’s shogunate was equally as unnotable other than his skin color. How ridiculous would it have been if they chose him? Imagine the backlash. Yasuke would’ve been an awesome addition to the game as a companion or major npc character (like they’ve historically ALWAYS done for historic figures), but making him the MC for the game was just dumb.
i mean, the japanese already made a game about that white guy (nioh franchise). idk why you are so pressed im pretty sure actual japanese people couldnt give a shit. that might be a fair point about him being the main character, but as it stands, very little is actually known about his life, so it probably gives the writers alot of room to fictionalise stuff + the guy DID have personal relationships with some very important figures in japanese history so from a storytelling perspective he does seem to tick a lot of boxes.
@@popeagapitusi8 I’m pressed because we’ve wanted an AC game set in Japan for 15 years and the main character isn’t Japanese, and how they literally went out of their way to make him not Japanese. Also not a fan that the MC is an actual historical figure. A historical figure that, again, has done nothing of notability (and actually the things we do know of him, he was not a great guy). Why are we glorifying some random dude just because of his skin color? Especially after reading the games plot synopsis, yasuke is going to betray nobunaga, which is the OPPOSITE of what happened in reality. Somebody did betray nobunaga tho! It wasn’t yasuke. Love giving credit other historical figures actually deserve to somebody else (because he had an under represented skin color so he needed more accomplishments)

i think you're overcomplicating it - it really comes down to the 'fish out of water' narrative trope. An outsider character allows for more direct exposition and world development to be transmitted to an audience/player, hence why they're used so often - look back at all the assasins creed games and you'll see the same thing. Ezio in AC2 had no knowledge of the world of assasins initially, same with connor, edward etc (cant speak for some of the newer game cause im a bit of an classic AC gamer myself). even altair all the way back in AC1 was an 'outsider' by virtue of having his rank and equipment revoked, hence allowing the player to explore the world and grow with the character.
it really comes down to narrative exposition, if you only have japanese characters, you would expect them to have a lot of information about the world - in which case there is now a dissonance because explaining info to the audience becomes a lot harder in universe (it wouldnt make sense for an NPC to explain feudal japanese societal structure to an educated japanese noble/samurai but it would for them to explain that to someone like yasuke). The game is written *brace yourself* by writers who know what narrative techniques go into crafting a good/easily digestible storyfor an audience, so they seek out characters like yasuke that help them tell that story. simple as that.

IGN got all the details of gameplay, someone posted a list on the AC Sub. Ubi might actually have innovated this time, as in you can fucking mask your footsteps in storm and rain and light is actually part of the detection so you can destroy light sources to create more shadows to hide in.
@SashaSyrup001 never played odyssey because I felt it missed the “assassins” part in it and felt more like a Greek god kinda gameplay but I could be wrong, I played mirage and it felt good to go back to roots but something about it felt off I couldn’t put my finger on it

i kinda wanna play it, game set in feudal japan is always a nice setting but im just a little upset that you have to firstly play as two characters with different playstyles (i hated that in syndicate, that you had to play as jacob.. ) but those big fights will probably be pretty cool. not really ac style but lately they dont care about assasins except mirage which was medicore. wonder what gameplay will look like

Would be excited about this but after seeing Star Wars Outlaws, this feels like it will be uninspired and mediocre in terms of gameplay and story. I know this franchise is known for altering history, but I just don't find the characters exciting to play or something to invest in. Maybe they will add something in combat or gameplay that will justify the $70 but I highly doubt it.
