I know I've just posted a video about how much I've been enjoying @ArrowheadGameStudios's Helldivers 2, but if you plan on playing on PC you might want to hold off on it for a while. I've encountered a serious issue with their nProtect Game Guard anti-cheat software that causes my computer to hard reset every time I attempt to launch the game. I've tried pretty much everything save swapping to a different PC to solve the problem, it just comes down to something wrong with the anti-cheat software. This issue only started happening yesterday after I had already logged 10+ hours playing the game, so I wouldn't be able to refund if I wanted to. If you decided to buy the game anyway, just be aware that you may get stuck with a game you can't play and can't refund. Hopefully it gets resolved soon, I'll keep you updated if it does.
I have a 7900 XTX + 7800 X3d. Playing the game at 4K with full settings made it crash within minutes, several times. Turning off Anti aliasing and global illumination helped a lot and AMD released specific drivers for the game that I hope will help.
Performance is also bad but I suspect it will be fixed soon
Enjoying this game alot, I am glad I got it on PS5. Only minor is I cant join other player's game but I just back out and go back in. It works most of the time.
I had the same issue, but i found out it was a program i had running in the background. For me it was GPU Tweak III. Try closing every program and se if that helps and try to narrow it down from there if it worked

Loved the first one, and this second opus is incredible. Love the atmosphere, the Starship Troopers vibe, the music and the deadly friendly-fire weapons!
One thing I'd like to point out about the MTX; The earn rate of the premium currency is actually really solid, whilst exploring the map during a mission, you can come across downed UAV things, buried cargo containers, and bunkers that can give a bunch of different rewards & items from Req, medals, samples, support weapons, and premium currency. Each bundle of currency you pick up is 20 Super Credits, and since you can find a bunch of these locations you can earn quite a bit. From one medium difficulty mission, the most Ive earned total was 140 super credits, now we did get extremely lucky as over 80% of the drops from these locations were super credits, but it still happened; We average 20-60 super credits a game on medium, that number drops when we do higher difficulty as you don't really have time to explore these locations since you are ALWAYS being hunted. Its extremely generous of Arrowhead to include super credits in the warbond, let alone in the actual missions themselves, I just wish some other games would follow suit with this. ALSO, about the stability issues, ive been watching reports closely and it seems to an issue with the 40 series nvidia cards, and some of the new Radeon cards, Most of the reports ive seen are from people who have a 40 series card which I find extremely bizarre. Hopefully arrowhead can issue a patch for it soon. (Edit) They did issue a patch today about some crashes & stability issues, hopefully this patch resolves the issue.
Two notes about your comments on the microtransactions - One the armor sets are rotated every 2 days but its a loop, so if you miss out just wait until it rotates around next time. Second i wouldn't say the gathering of SC is "extremely slow" - there's people who've gotten enough for the premium warbond (1000 SC) in as little as 11 hours. Personally I've been buying all the amour I've wanted from the superstore and have never had a problem not having enough SC for free. It is not too hard to pay the base price and never pay anything again.

And honestly, even if you DO buy the premium package from Steam and/or buy some SC, you don't have to feel bad about it because some people don't have the skills or time to earn that much. In the end you are just buying cosmetics. It's not Pay to Win. Which is great.
Also, If you do buy them, you are supporting the game and it is frankly well worth it. Play this for a couple days and you have gotten your money's worth and more back just in fun.
I collected more than 700 of the premium credits just yesterday, granted it was day off, but even playing one or two runs a day I feel like you will get the "premium" unlock track in under two weeks, easy.
I personally opted to shove the devs an extra 10 bucks after my first play session turned into a 12 hour adrenaline fest but it's definitely an option and an easy one at that.
Especially as the premium track unlocks are all "nice to have" and/or sidegrades and not straight up better.
One of the best parts of this game is how much it respects the player. Only $40 for a game that rivals games that costs $60/$70 and never expects any extra monetization money, nor makes it vital to succeed or have enjoyment of the game. It also lets the players drive the meta narrative which always makes the player community so much more sincere.
Funny thing is it’s not even rival them. It beats them with no competition. Yeah I’m looking at you Skull & Bones
I can’t think of another live service game outside of _maybe_ Sea of Thieves that comes close to rivaling Helldivers 2.
I got 120 hours played in the last two weeks! Sure got my moneys worth out of it, and i am not done yet :) just hit 50 and I am loving it :D
First live service game to get it right, the sky boxes for the worlds are so cool too, dropping a nuke with a volcano going off in the background is just chefs kiss
Everyone and their mother is playing this game, this is such a blessing of a game, as someone who recently reached lvl 50 I'm still going strong with the game, I come back all hyped and giddy from work whenever I sit down to play this game.
I am an avid star citizen player, but I cannot drop my controller playing this game, it's the best game in years, probably one of the best of all time for me! For liberty!!!
Its chaotic, but its not random. You KNOW why something happened; and you KNOW you should have expected it. So death rarely feels undeserved. And once you finally learn how enemy armor plating works, you comprehend 90% the problems you were having up until that point. The other 10% is puffballs.
Any game will feel like this when you stop SC

Bruh I remember Helldivers 1 was a top down game but haven't played it in years. Been so long that when I read Helldivers 2 I thought it was again the same but this is entirely different, love it
It got the Risk of Rain 2 treatment. Well designed enemies, and a decent AI system go a long way to making combat as fun as it is. And the top notch animations make it easy to follow. I don't think theres any enemy in the game where I can't easily see how its going to kill me, despite the amount of chaos happening all around me.
This game hit me like XCOM Enemy Unknown did back in 2012: a game in an existing IP that I'd previously never heard of, but I picked up because I'd heard good things and ended up getting kinda blown away. Good-looking and cinematic with very positive gameplay loop, and charmingly janky and chaotic. If XCOM is any indicator, I'll be coming back to this game for a long time.
Really wish they'd let us register and save loadouts though. I understand that they want us to read the mutators and each others' gear and adapt accordingly, but being able to grab a tailored template and go would save a lot of time.

I love Helldiver and it was a breath of fresh air, someone that doesnt want all the microtransactions, and I could earn enough for a new battlepass in the bloody game itself! That is unheard of these days. I love the new buff on the Arc Thrower! i dont play without it :)
I can confirm, this is the most fun I’ve had in a coop game since vermintide 2. I simply can’t get enough. There are some glitches so beware, but other than that I’d say 100% worth it. Very refreshing
On the subject of AMD, specially for the 7000 series cards to play the game super stable you have to turn off Anti-Aliasing, and Screen Space Lighting entirely.
I have a 7900XT in my PC, and I didn’t have to turn off Anti-Aliasing to fix the crashing issue, just Screen Space Lighting. The devs said on their discord that they are aware of the issue and working on a fix.

If you're going for SC, there seems to be 3 sources of it, all different points of interest that aren't initially marked on the map until you get near them. There's the crashed beacons, that have a gold pillar of light, coming up from them, making them easy to spot from a distance. There's the double button bunker doors, and then partially buried cargo crates that can be blasted open with an explosion. The crashed beacons have one item, which can be super credits, medals, requisitions, a sample or a support weapon. The crates have two of those, and the bunkers have a support weapon and two of the other items. From my experience, the buried crates, followed by bunkers seem to most frequently have super credits, with them frequently having two drops of them, but that could just be lucky rng on my part. Combing the map on some lower difficulty missions can get SC pretty quick (I think 4-5 has been best for me, though I've heard people say the reduced number of locations in 1 is compensated by the speed at which a full team can do everything and extract). I've gotten upwards of 50 SC from a mission before. It's been a struggle between the connectivity issues and playing with randoms to get a team that can regularly scour the map like that, but if you got some buddies it shouldn't be too hard.
For Super Earth! I have made a dozen new Helldiver friends playing this. :) It is awesome.
The developers have really captured lightning in a bottle here by giving the player a CONSTANT sense of fun while playing….it never lets up, this is brilliant game design from start to finish.

The superstore is actually available to everyone. What you need are super credits, which are earned via warbond progression or by collecting in the field if you're lucky. The premium warbond progression can also be obtained by grinding 1000 super credits, and there's an option to buy it on the bottom right. It has some good weapons there, but nothing to cry home about as a standard player once you get the breaker shotgun. There's no significant imbalance between premium or standard once you're lvl 10 and up, which you can get to in a few days.

Since you asked about AMD PCS:
I have a very old AMD PC that I built 9 years ago. CPU is an AMD 8350 (8 core 4ghz) 32GB of RAM, 4 SSD's in 2 mirrored RAID sets (two mirrors, one for C drive, the other for game storage drive) and an ATI R9 290 video card (4GB VRAM). Running Windows 10 64 bit current patches.
I was really worried I wouldn't be able to play this because, well my PC is practically an antique by current standards. It plays PERFECTLY. I use Custom settings, turning down the volumetric fog and clouds and reflections and running most of the other settings at medium or high. It's a bit "flatter" visually for me, but by golly it plays and plays smoothly!
Only issues I had were a couple times it timed out connecting to session, which I took as "server is really busy right now". A couple instances of "frameyness" but only during the loading cutscenes. I just attribute that to loading up the shaders and whatnot taking a smidge longer with my older PC. During play it was smooth as butter.
But yeah, only one day of play under my belt, but so far it's been pretty good on my "Grandpa PC".
It’s almost as much fun watching as it is playing. This game is gold
the concept of meta gameplay, fighting an all out war alongside all other players, in game events in line with the overall conflict, all of that is absolutely brilliant. There is so much they can do with that! Imagine the devs make it so that the enemy forces get stronger and stronger, more and more worlds are taken over, all hope seems lost. Then the devs push a content update: new gear, new guns, new technologies developed in the in-game lore universe, which will then turn the tide of the conflict and the players are able to retake the worlds that were lost.
Never even though about a Morph Shack collab, but it makes sense now

This game looks so good graphically. I hope that one day star citizen is able to have this amount of vegetation density and that they add some sort of wars that players can join as limited time events.
Running on an old i7 6700k and a 6600 XT and have had zero crashes so far. A shame for those who do, because my god what a glorious game!

One of the aspects I think is being missed is that it actually feels like a next generation experience. The ping system and map are very easy and simple to use, all while being shot at. Objectives are dynamic and aren't just stand here for 'x' amount of time. The map gets absolutely decimated with explosions. Enemy hit boxes are also dynamic. Between weak points as well as armor thickness. It's not just output the highest DPS possible and faceroll everything. There are actual techniques for taking out higher tear enemies, and all of them can vary, and with such limited ammo, you make sure you are versatile enough to have an answer for all of them even with actual objectives. Enemies also don't just become bullet sponges on higher difficulties because of it and they make things more difficult for the right reasons.
The revolutionary part is having a Game Master who can change things in real time making it feel as fresh as possible

I really love HD2, reminds me a lot of my old SW: Battlefront OG days with friends. Taking out a monster on Felucia while explosions are going on around you and mechs are being blown to bits and collapsing around you.
I would say you overstated planet variety, imo there is about 4 archetypes and they all pretty much play the same outside of the 1 tree jungle planet and its many recolors which has lots of bushes that slow you.
The only really desire it hasn't satiated is a more "warfare" concept of a pitch battle of npcs where you are the heroes pushing the horde back. If they can get some kind of npc large battle mode I'd be in love. Right now it's only limit is just the 4 man team size
Also happy to see a chaos mass scale shooter that isn't just a pvp battlefield derivative that ends up being fairly unfun and impersonal once the initial spectacle wears off.
Also can't wait to see if the enemy territory overlaps and we get both mechs and bugs fighting each other and us.
Excited to see what tools we get (I hear mech suits) and what new monsters crop up to destroy us.
The mission select and launch sequence really have no reason to go that hard. But I never fail to appreciate that it does. Its just the right amount of hype going into a mission.

Too bad about the extremely intrusive root kit "anticheat" you can't even 100% uninstall when you are done with the game.
I really think they would've done themselves a favor skipping microtransactions. Look at Baldur's Gate 3, it's one of the major selling points and has earned it copious amounts of good will.
I'll just buy that game instead.

Absolutely love this game and have been playing it often on my PC. I do have an AMD CPU (Ryzen 9 7900X) and GPU (Radeon RX 7900XT), which did not pose too much an issue when it first came out (there were more network-related problems and crashing only at the end of a helldive), but since the latest update a day or so ago the game would crash often enough that it is frustrating to play. The game tends to lock up, and crash my GPU driver (which also happens to crash discord as well). It seems like it is really only tied to this game, sadly as my other games seem unaffected.

Just ran into the same problem. Constant crashing, a few times just froze the entire pc and had to force shutoff in order for it to react.
As someone with a 5800X3D, I've not had any issues nearly as severe as you describe. In fact, my game seems to be one of the more stable ones out of my friend group, but that may just be luck of the draw. In case you are trying to collect more info on it, here's my rig:
Gigabyte RTX 3070
AMD Ryzen 5800X3D (Kombo Strike 3 configuration. basically an undervolt to the CPU)
32 GB DDR4 RAM
Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe
It's an amazing game with its tongue in cheek humor that's perfectly well done and doesn't seem to get old. It even has some layers to the humor like how you're judged by how many helldivers you extract...after multiple have been mulched during a mission. A character even responds "Well done! We have fewer condolences leters to write than usual!".
Mostly the game is marred by technical issues and we'll have to see if they can get it sorted out before it reaches critical mass of unplayability and angry customers. But I think people will keep coming back to see if it works.
I recall some noted the game was grindy, but I feel like one could easily blow through all the content if it were any less so. The war-system and seasons are designed to try to make things feel fresh as they work on new content.
Also I'd note on the store if it hadn't been mentioned, the premium currency CAN be found ingame so it's even more important to be thorough in searching the maps. If you completed the season without buying anything using the currency, you'd have 1000 which is enough to unlock the premium season rewards as well.
The system is a little annoying but understandable to keep people playing and engaged as they develop new stuff.
Cool thing is, they said the superstore rotates and everything will always come back (So FOMO isn't as stressed), similar to how premium warbonds will never go away/rotate...aka you can unlock them over time without forcing you to really buy anything aand supercredits (premium currency) can be earned in game. Also its not "Pride and Accomplishment" levels of earning in game currency.
Also as a (Intel) PC user, other than initial connection issues (which were ultimately fixed by resetting system wide network settings) I have only had 2 crashes in 3 days and everything seems to be working well.
Interesting. This is the first I've heard of this game. I mainly clicked on it to see if it was related to the book series. It seems like this one is not, I don't know if the first one was. It could be an interesting game from the looks of it. Of course, it's also one of those that, when everyone starts losing interest then the whole thing, will be much harder to do, especially when you require multiple people for certain objectives.
When you were showing the map of the sector and who had control over what I saw the influence of ChromeHounds. That was a great game for real-time domination, unfortunately this is lacking the customizable Mech portion of that, but nothing else has quite stacked up since Chrome Hounds went offline.
This game would go hard in VR
Something to note about the superstore and micro transactions in this game vs the majority of games that have it is that the currency can be farmed in game. You can spend medals earned in the war bonds for it, or find it during missions. Most games with micro transactions make you purchase their currency with no other way to acquire it.
I keep reading about crashes but I haven't had one yet. Running a slightly older rig 5900X and 6900XT.
Hey man! I think it's important to call out that the earn rate on the premium currency is around 30 - 50 per mission if you find all the different points of interest on the map. And there is no difference in that earning per difficulty. This is the fairest compromise for having a premium shop but also allowing everything to be unlocked over time. The premium shop also rotates between all the armours that exist in it's system. So you will be able to get everything overtime. But you can pay to unlock it immediately if you don't have the time or interest to play six or seven games to get all the currency needed to unlock them. I have two armour sets from the store and the premium "battle pass" which amounts to earning 1,800 or so premium currency through gameplay. I have played ~ 100 missions, and wasn't aware of the the way you can optimize your earning runs (aka looking for the diamonds) until mission 50.
The only reason I write that wall of text is because I generally HATE premium shops, but this one feels remarkably fair and balanced. Actually being able to earn everything through gameplay, and making it only slightly out of the way to do so, is really cool.
Awesome Game! I've crashed maybe twice but I'm running Nvidia and Intel so you might be onto something with AMD. (Btw I'm a fellow architectural designer in Denver and I admire your work!)
Playing on PC with 3-4 other friends and mostly no issues. The only stuff we encountered were network related issues (always one player at a time getting disconnected & sent back to the ship), and one sinlge crash to desktop when about 20 bugs got blown up at the same time. Also we are all on Intel/Nvidia as far as Im aware, not AMD
Stability issues are not only bound to X3D series AMD chips. I have a 7900X w/ 7900XTX GPU w/ 32GB DDR5 RAM and game was stable for about 3 hours last night before crashing windows. PC is on Windows 11. Havent tested on Win 10 so cant say for certain if its only an 11 issue
Great game that works pretty well on launch (which is a rarity). Still has some bugs that need squashing, and unfortunately not the kind that you can call airstrikes on or shoot. Hoping the team goes for smoothing out the game before going all-in on content.
I am a PC gamer; Ryzen 7 GeForce 3090. Almost 20 hours in but haven’t experienced any issues mentioned in this video. Been loving the game but matchmaking takes a while sometimes. A patch came today but I’ve yet to try it out
I’ve earned close to 1200 Super Credits by playing the game. I have about 25 hours of playtime thus far. You do not earn premium currency slowly at all, especially if you farm lower difficulty missions. I’ve already managed to buy the premium warbond and an armor set from the Super Store, and I still have enough left over to get a few more pieces if I wanted them.
The thing that bothers me the most is the constant crashing and the constant disconnects. I love the game, atmosphere, sound design, music etc. but the stability is really a issue for me and sucks out all the fun.
Thats why I currently shelved it as I cant be bothered playing just to be thrown out.
This is even better than Theaters of War!
Well, to be fair, even skull and bones is better than TOW because it is actually a thing you can play.

My game was crashing at the tutorial with my 7900xtx, seems that turning the settings to low might have fixed it. (or turning of fluid motion frames, one of the two!)
I honestly thought this game was going to be a fart in the wind. A Starship Troopers clone but with less character.
I should have known better, Some of Dice's best devs went to work on this game after leaving the Battlefield franchise and it shows in HD2. The destruction, the explosions, and atmosphere of being in an all out warzone.
Im totally hooked on it and can't wait to play more.

Im not 100% sure if it counts as an extraction shooter as the typical ones. The whole idea is you have to extract with a ton of loot but here you don't really have any repercussions for the lack of extraction save for some materials being left.

It would certainly be nice if the co-op portion of the game functioned. It's harder to drop into a random this weekend than it was launch weekend. Certainly takes much of the fun out of the game for me.
I have a 7900XTX and a 7800X3D, it seems like most of the issues stem from the GPU end, but if you put certain settings on, then you will avoid pretty much all crashes, i get a 1-2 second hitch like once a mission but otherwise no problem other than one random crash on the map, but i was already having server issues that boot so im not sure it was even related

Loved the reviews so I purchased it.
First thing: It required that I create a PS account.
Then it required that I connect that PS account to my Steam account.
Then it turned out to be live-service only (Sony has a history of bricking games by shutting down the servers)
And then I couldn't log in because the servers well full/busy/something. Tried for about 10 min
Steam has refunded my purchase.
I'm playing on Linux so my crashes might be a little bit different from yours, but I had to disable dx12 by a steam launch option. I have an AMD CPU and an AMD GPU

Playing with AMD Ryzen 9 5900X & NVidia RTX 3070. Not had a single in crash in 50+ hours of game time. Servers have been unstable form time to time, though it has gotten a lot better.
I don’t know why but this game makes me say thing like:
“Die filthy xenos”
“FOR THE EMPEROR!”
And other 40k quotes.
I’m pretty sure the automatons are a direct reference to the mechanicum from 40k, in lore they’re part human.
It looks amazing, but the kernel level anticheat really bugs me. If it would close when the game does then i would absolutely buy, but having it on even when im doing anything else just doesnt sit right with me

Today I had difficulties connecting to the server, and played a single game before a server bug happened making it so I didn't receive any XP or mission rewards for completing the battles. Tried to restart the game and was met with a connection error again.
I'm running on an AMD 5900X and RX 7900XT and I am crashing with complete PC freezes pretty much every second mission - now admittedly, that is on Linux with Proton as compatibility, but from all I've heard these issues exist just the same on Windows. It's really an amazing game, but each mission rolling the dice whether or not I have to hard reset my PC and rejoin my friends really puts a damper on things. One moment from frantic action to the next having a frozen screen and complete lockup. Really hope this gets fixed soon.

Im not sure why you say the earn rate for Super Credits is super slow, you can get multiple hundreds in a day or two just by playing normally picking them up during missions, and the Warbonds are also a decent source of of a few hundred early on. I've only been playing for 2 and a half days and im sitting at almost 800 Super Credits to spend, and the stuff in the store only goes for 100-200.
I've been trying my best to keep n00bs alive by simply choosing weapon drops so everyone has a chance against the beefier enemies. Autocannon, grenade launchers, anti-tank one shots, guard dogs... you end up using them up like toilet paper.
Im playing with a Ryzen 7 7700X and an RX 7900XT. Probably every 2-3 matches I will suddenly freeze up, screen will go black, and then the entire game crashes. Really hope the game stability gets polished up and fixed.

I’m only having issues with matchmaking, quick play takes a few tries if it works at all, but I have an nvidia card so idk
It would be cool if they could make bigger squads or let us team up with another squad.

You mentioned the shop rotates out and FOMO but you didn't mention that the skins will never be taken out of rotation.
Run around the maps, pick up super credits in mission, get the skins. No need to spend money on super credits.
