- Stafford Classic Bike Auction 2024 | Slump in prices?
Join us on a preview day at the Stafford Classic Bike Spring Auction 2024 hosted by Bonhams.
We take a look at a handful of show highlights including the bonkers 48 cylinder Whitelock, an ‘87 factory Honda RS500, a GSXR750 which Dom thinks is guaranteed to make you a millionaire, Gary Nixons Kawasaki Formula 750 and the legendary Barry Sheens ‘74 Suzuki 750!
We also have a game of guessing the hammer price, which we have a history of being toss at, look around a few other classics and give our usual honest and often stupid opinions on what we see, such as, would James Mays Honda C90 be worth more if it had been sat on by Pamela Anderson?
Check out our follow up show to see if prices are still on the slide and if there are still bargains to be had if you have a dig around.
Find out why we think old British classics have had their day and is a bike longer than Ant.

Best looking and best gixer 750 of all was the original slab sider. It's design philosophy was to be as light as possible and that was apparent in every detail. Total game changer when it came to market.
It was a peach…however the ‘89?
@@raceandretro The Slingshot was a backward step, slower and evil stability from the first model. Shorter stroke but less top end, unstable and actually very dangerous. Mine nearly killed me, and it didn't last long in proddy racing after the '88 TT.
Alan millyard could do with that monstrocity for spares.
This show is not about the bikes, it's about two British guys.
Hearted your comment as we are not quite sure if this is a compliment or not. The three of us are going with it is until told otherwise 👍
Dom’s not British? He’s from Loompaland.
and Keith is from Chin a 😘
Love the Stokey accent(s) and let's see the follow-up video soon as please. For what it's worth, I thought the prices looked pretty strong all things considered.
Cheers chief!! So much for trying to sound posh then. Follow up show very soon but you are right, the prices did look to be up on last year 👍
ZX10.."Scotland and back"...in 1989 (ish) I was working as a courier based in Woking. A job came in to Livingstone, Scotland. I used a CX500 for work but nipped home to get my ZX10. I did Woking to Livingstone and back in one day.
That’s a great recollection. To be fair the bike is still more than capable of doing it now. Appreciate the comments 🙏👍
@@raceandretro The bike is a smooth intercontinental ballistic missile and like many of these old Kawasaki's, massively under rated and appreciated. The good news is you can get a decent one for about an average months salary which is mad.
Bad news is they are old, much love and spanners needed.
Point to Point couriers of Woking, some might remember fast bikes magazine and Colin Schiller, company still going according to companies house. Same crowd.
I did get to pick up a Norton F1 from the factory for Fast Bikes, now that was special.
@@mikebreen2890 we love stories like this. You are so right about them being under appreciated, the ZX7R from the last auction went for about 1800 quid! The early ZZR1100 was also a rocket. Wonder if a nice low miles ZX10 (if you could find one) would rise in value over the next 10 years or so?
@@raceandretro I think the ZX10 was niche at the time, and the riders are in their 60's now. I don't have numbers to hand, but I suspect it was not a huge seller at the time for several reasons.
No, the ZX10 (B) will not be an investment as far as making money goes, but seriously, £2500 ?! That's Chinese scooter money for a lovely bike.
Now, my Z1-R that I have here...;-)
Some Kawasaki's Do Hold Their Money Z1 any of the 2 Stroke Triples
I have a few 90’s bikes, and interest is definitely on the increase, for the reasons you gave.. That GSXR is lovely, but it has to be blue/white for a Suzuki.. I have the 750 SRAD, but I would like an earlier GSXR..
My fave bike in the garage is my 1990 Kawasaki ZXR750 H2 in the obligatory green/white/blue 😉 Prices are certainly firming up a little..
It still makes me scratch my head that the magazine ‘Practical Sportsbikes’ magazine was cancelled.. & yet ‘Classic Bikes’ magazine is still going?? Surely 80s/90s & early 00s bikes are approaching their purple patch for those of us in our late 40s/50s? 💁🏻♂️
Anyway, interesting video featuring some lovely bikes.. I’d love that 851 😍 I had a 916 many years ago, but I do prefer the 851/888 shape Ducatis
Subbed 👍🏼
Thanks so much for the comments. The blue and white are classic but something about the red and black in that earlier shape is just spot on.
The H2 is a minter….and definitely the right colour! The 400 H was a great little bike but only Japanese import if remembered correctly.
A real shame about Practical Sports Bike, maybe a rebrand would have seen it continue. There is definitely interest in those bikes now as nostalgia bites.
The 851/888 are just as nice as the 916 in our opinion. Possibly unrated due to the success of the 916?
We really appreciate the sub and thanks again. 🙏👍👍
Great episode chaps.....Cheers..love the cross eyes
🙏 thanks! Keefer always looks like that though 👍
Hi, I would like to apologise. Your channel is well produced and informative covering a subject I enjoy. I should not have made a sniddy comment because I did not like the jokes. I wish you all the best and am pleased to see that you have gained 600 subs including myself.
Fair play 👏🏻 let’s all start again then. Welcome to the group chief and we hope you stick around. Appreciate this comment as not many would have the balls to do that 👍 🤝
I think the 999 looks quite good in black, the vertical double-eyes are making a comeback right now and it still got the classic trellis frame, the nice double underseat exhausts and the sleek fairings youd expect. For collecting id get a 748 though, they are pretty cheap right now and guaranteed to increase in value.
Keith is scared to death of anything with vertical eyes. Good point in the 748’s 👍👍
I think the Gold CB750 next to the C90 is also James Mays'
Good spot 👍👍
My favourite Gixer has to be the 1st water-cooled one, from 1994 in silver with red graphics and wheels
Good choice but not quite as nice as the ‘89 😂
@@raceandretro The 89 last of the air/oil cooled with upside down forks , best looking one but I'm biased because I had one
That ZX10 will struggle to make 2k , not a bad bike but ain't worth much
My favourite was the VF750F parked next to the CB1100.
Woop whoop team SUZUKI 💪💨
SRAD all day, but the first slabby has something too
The best looking gsxr 750 for me is the H model slabbie..
Too be fair that is a very valid point. It was a proper looker 👍
Ducati 1098R is my collector bike of choice....
Only made for a couple of years? The R already strong money though. Cheers for the watch 👍
Morning guys
Enjoying these ones, glad you spotted a 3MA. Any updates on your one? Unless I'm missing something I've only seen the one where you take the fairings off
Hiya and thanks for the comment 🙏👍
Our 3ma is currently under a sheet (still with it fairings off) as we slowly finish the NC30. We are super slow 😂 and Keith keeps buying other project bikes! Like we haven’t got enough already 🤦🏼♂️
We will get around to it though and hope you stick around.
@@raceandretro Spot on, keep up the good work. I've been enjoying the NC30 build and looking forward to the TZR build
Yup, best looking Gixer
I bloody knew it! The other two have no clue. 👍
I agree Slingshot is the best looking Gixer
You are obviously a very sensible chap 👌
@@raceandretro I’ll take that😜
I deeply want the RS500
Such a great looking bike. The video doesn’t do it justice.
@@raceandretro any idea what it went for ( not that I could afford it)?
@@chrisstephens6194 under the hammer tomorrow. We will let you know chief 👍
@@raceandretro thanks
65k! Bang on the lower guide price. 👍
The white and blue K2's where the ones to have..
Noooo..not a better looking bike than the ‘89! We are sending you some free glasses 🤓😘
What was the red/white Ducati next to the 851? (left of camera).
It was a 900SS 1989, guide price of 2-3k 👍
@@raceandretro They had a Weber twin choke carb.
The black 999: values bottomed out long ago and have been on the up as to most tastes the styling has come full circle. The later or higher specced ones were the smart buy 5-10 years ago.
@@bananabrooks3836 maybe because it followed on from the 851/888/916 it just looked like it was trying to hard.
Got the Whitelock wrong than!
😂😂 only by a little bit 👍
Zx10b nice cheap retro looking bike…perhaps now going up in value ? Was out on mine today… puts a smile on your face…embarrasses a lot of newer bikes
Amazing! Still look a class act 👍
The Whitelock Tinker Toy 4.2 Kawasaki in my opinion is an unnecessary selfish build as it deprived Classic Kawasaki Triple restorers of needed engine parts.
Gsxr in blue and white people like but there's no substitute for cubes i have a gsxr1100m 1991 in yoshimura colours i don't want it unless its got an x in it 😂🤣😂
Good point! 👍 Nice bike you have there 👌
@@raceandretro I wish you could send pictures on here 😂
Join our Facebook page and post up on there 👍👍
You are not going to believe how much that mini moto mv went for ,ffs,.
@@cabovermike we have just seen!!! 7k! 😱
Best GSXR 750?? The F of course.... 1985
The more I see the ‘85 the nicer it becomes. The other two have no taste and prefer the later models!
A cbr1000f poster. You had dreams. Not!
Dificultades to argue looking at them today but in 1991….they were truly beautiful 😍😂👍
@@raceandretroHey! I just added an immaculate 91 CBR1000F to my collection.. I’ve always liked the look so decided last year to find a good one.. found a lovely bike, 23k miles, in the so called Benetton colours…I’ve always liked the slightly left field colour schemes 😄
They’re a lot of bike for the money.
@@waynester71 yes! Finally someone with an eye for a 90’s icon. Still a very capable bike? Was it hard to find an immaculate one?
In respect of the creation I get it ,but it’s just horrible
😂😂😂
Greedy Crusties that bought the bikes for investment are trying to offload it....the clock is ticking, its all been too dear for a decade. I paid £2500 for my CBX 6s in the early 80s...£24K today, dont think so, they are already dropping. Investment World is over, the next gens will swop it for a PS 4.
Great and EU wanna ban bikes older than 15 years. 😞
They should ban anything newer than 15 years!
@@raceandretro 😅😂🤣
Feedback which has been deleted.
Apologies, not sure why that has happened.
“Only 3k subs, I wonder why?”
To which we responded, along the lines of, we loved you feedback and we can’t understand why it’s only at 3k either. Should be at least 10k. 😘
Only 3k subs, I wonder why?
Because we've only been going 1 year? Because we're just amateurs, just having a laugh? . Not sure, pal. If you could let us where we're we are going wrong, that would be sound 👍
2998 more then you 😊
Ah bless..he actually gave some feedback! Like we actually give a **** 😂😂😂
Wow that was exciting 😮not
Cheerio then Willy wonga 👋
Because the big fella doesn't even have a double chin and you used the same lame joke twice.
🤣 Ok chief, well thanks for the feedback. We must try harder, Would it be ok to run everything by you first just to make sure as you sound like a funny guy.
Is it Milliards' bike? He can make any bloody thing!
Simon Whitelock built this one 👍
