when he said to split up Belgium, the first thing that came to my mind as a Belgian myself was "what about Brussels, would you have to split that too" cause technically Brussels speaks french and flemish.

There was actually an incident when the regional government (which governs over the German part and a part of the French region) planned on removing the original city names on the street signs in the German speaking part, the people there scratched the French translations instead
