    I love Fabric.com's thread matching service. They do a fabulous job of matching and once I have 1 spool of matching thread, I can always order more if I need it. I wish other online fabric stores would offer that service too.

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport  Před 7 lety

      Agree, that is such a great convenience to customers like us! Most of the time I'm guessing as to whether thread I'm ordering will match, so I tend to order a few colors to be safe.

    I’m Rosie I like to order from Missouri Quilt co, the only thing is I never know when it arrives. Sometimes it’s 2 days and the next order takes a week or two. I love watching her videos, even made quilts and others from Shabby fabrics like quilted Xmas ornaments and Easter quilted eggs. Interesting

    I'm pretty sure chiffon is a woven fabric and so it's likely that it'll fray. It's also super slippery to work with when cutting or sewing. You could totally make a flowy gathered maxi dress! It has minimal sewing and would be an easy project to introduce you to intermediate fabrics!
    Also some people try DIY finishing the edges of chiffon by running a lighter over the ends. You could try on a scrap piece if you're interested in trying that.

    Campbell River, British Columbia. Knowing your fabric types helps with identifying fabrics online. I love going to fabric stores, but I also like the selections online. You have JoAnne Fabrics in the USA, we have Fabricland across Canada

For people who are starting out this lady has life stream and also she is a pattern designer. I am like you in wanting to learn step by step. Peggy explains things so that you can understand.

      I need to check it out sometime soon. How are the prices there?

    • @PPatty13
      @PPatty13 Před 7 lety +1

      Sewing Report I would say Gail K's prices are decent especially if you want to shop in a brick and mortar store other than JoAnn. Plus the selection is better for apparel fabric since that is all I they sell I think . . You can find real silks, wool's, designer fabrics etc. One of the only problems I have with them is it's slightly cramped with fabric up to the ceiling. But it does remind me of a mini mood.😀

    I'm watching from Bath West Va. I'm new to sewing . I went to Joanna fabric today and even thru had the so called big sale it was EXTREMELY EXSPENSIVE.
    By the time I buy the material to make my baby blankets n wipes I miight as well buy brand new ready madr. Very dissapointed. There must be a place that is affordable. .

    I like to shop online, because invariably if I want the blue, the local quilt shop (if it has any) will have the red.
    Or I want to buy some of all of the line (I am a scrap quilter, so I prefer to buy 1/2 yards of fat quarters if not charm packs or layer cakes) & they only have 1 of 2 pieces.
    I also do not like how the fabrics are arranged at my local shops.
    So I have embraced my preference to shop for "Tula Pink Tabby Road Discokitty in Berrybird" by searching online.
    I prefer etsy & a couple small shops.

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport  Před 7 lety

      That's so true, I too usually know EXACTLY what I'm looking for instead of browsing. In some regards, it is less hassle to shop online.

    I must disagree with you about purchasing fabric on line. Shopping on line is the pits. There is nothing like going to a brick and mortar fabric shop for inspiration and and knowing just what you are purchasing. Fabric manufacturers vary the density of fabric constantly and the specifications are broad. You simply never know. I wish we had more store fronts. It is so discouraging. The ONLY reason I purchase on line is the fact - I don't have a choice. My go to online store is Fabric.com, only because I don't have a choice. Shopping on line is ridiculous, but if you are going to sew, you don't have a choice this day and time. I enjoy your channel so much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the sewing community - your great!

      It's totally okay to have a different opinion Dana - appreciate you sharing your thoughts on fabric shopping. I personally just have not had much luck with the physical stores in my area, and like the convenience of purchasing online. THANK YOU for offering a varied perspective as everyone's input is valuable, and for voicing it in a respectful and constructive way. (A rarity these days!) Happy Sunday!

    have you ever been to the website MARSHALL DRY GOODS??(www.marshalldrygoods.com/) when I want to dream about fabric I scroll thru the 100's of beautiful selections there - they have all the name brands---- that bubble gum pink tricot ---- is beautiful - you use it for nighties - baby dolls - bed jackets- slips - panties - any place you want a "see thru" sexy fabric or sheer curtains in a frilly bedroom - I remember when I was a teen shopping at K-mart because they always had the most beautiful negligees made of tricot in many colors

    I know I'm late to this, but just saw this video recommended to me and have to say - I do not get how people can still be supporting Fabric.com - it has been owned by Amazon for years now and with everything that has come out about the horrible way they treat their employees and the environment I cannot bring myself to buy from them anymore. Sorry for the rant, but I would rather support one of the hundreds of small fabric shops instead.
