    Been in crypto for 6 years now, there’s always a fad that comes and goes:
    Lending platforms (bitconnect, p3d, davor, etc.), Crypto Kitties, Binance ERC20 ICO launches that would do 100x just because binance was attached to them. NFTs are just another fad and something new will come along to replace them. As long as you recognize it and get in early and out before it pops you’ll make an absurd amount of money, but none of these are long term investments.

    Regarding the security statement, I agree. But if the utility of the NFT itself is not profit sharing, then you could argue that you didn't buy for the interest in selling later on.
    You do the same thing with watches and artpieces. As long as you can prove that you "didn't buy to sell" then it's not only NOT a security but also not taxed.

    • @Nikola_Botev
      @Nikola_Botev Před 2 lety +1

      Verry interesting angle, yes you can buy a luxury watch and if it's a Rolex/PP/AP with rare color dial it will most likely come up in value. But here are the two main problems in my eyes. Rolex doesn't make 10 grade presentations on why their product is valuable. Such high ticket item is made by top watch specialists, it's produced in finite units and have a long history, where NFT for the most part are subpar art form. When you got an A1 tier product you don't need a marketer to sell it like what we observe right now. The prices for an art that can be replicated relatively easy is so out of touch. And It's not really quantity limited, if someone pays me to make 100 NFTs and we make good profit, this obviously will happen again and again. When you get to the point of tax reduction you got a some % of false signal to the market. Because a bunch of millionaires decided to put some money (not much for them, but if this goes up so much better for them) this is not a market move. Just like the luxury watches, if it's going to work it must have a proven track record and for now this can be said only for a verry few NFT projects.

    Absolutely agree, 99.99% of the nft arts(just useless pictures) and p2e games where you basically need to click every once in a while are just Ponzi schemes. The only nft based project that can succeed, that will attract people with the gameplay itselt, not that it is an Blockchain game. But I disagree that gamers don't want NFts in real games. Actually csgo skins are NFTs and player love them. They are just not on Blockchain, but controlled by Valve and you can lose them whenever they like. Imagine playing the Fortnite with every skin, and then selling it, when you are tired of the game and getting your money back. That would incentive people to spend more on game. But game companies are the one, that don't want Nft, because in that case players are buying from secondary market and company get only a small percentage of the price, instead of paying full price directly to the game company if there is no possibility of trading in-game assets. And I also disagree with the fee cost, it's just Eth net that requires shit ton of commission, there are a lot for Blockchains that require almost zero to non commissions at all, because they utilize proof of stake instead of proof of work.

      Roblox is the OG nft factory without a block chain.
      Kids can make thousands on roblox selling their creations then picked up by a team mayb and earn even more.
      I like crypto games but I don't want to see games use their own crypto coin.
      I want crypto games to worry about the game and partner with an already established coin. A coin that can partner with multiple crypto game teams and just keep stacking use cases.
      Like I heard Disney is building a meta verse and plan to use a coin zilliqa. But since i never heard anything else on that mayb it was bs hype that failed cos zil didn't do nothing.
      But it makes sense to do it that way.
      Game devs don't really have any business trying to run an economy they should just focus on the game.
      Like a game studio does do. Then use a coin like teams use EA or whatever.
      That way even if the game fails the coin won't and the team will not be able to con the players at all.
      They would just partner with a coin and receive coin like buying shares in the game or rights to its economy system.
      Axie infinity what do those devs know about money? Nothing i bet. But having total control axie team had their star coin AXS.
      Then they had their bag token two of them to extra confuse people and the team rugged the SLPs im sure of it. They was always gonna take the SLP money so AXS can grow.
      Just like the shib team they soon released two more tokens they owned all of to profit big since they locked up their shib wallets and told us vitalik burned it all. Until oct 28th when it showed up destroyed shibs run.
      Now shib still has 30 trillion tokens in total supply not counted in circulating supply so those will turn up if it ever runs again snd I really don't think it will. That tram lied too much now it only has its hostages fr ATH desperate to try and fomo others into it lol.

The blockchain is able to offer the same thing for a fraction of the cost to the end users. If you were a fan of games, you’d know it wouldn’t work.

    From an artist point of view, I was happy to see it happening, in my head I was translating it as when back in the day you could buy an oil painting, you had the proof that you had the original item. Modern world photography (my field) was lacking this because you can just copy paste things.. however making an nft creates the original "painting" feeling where finally collectors can actually prove that the item belongs to them.
    From that moment I don't have to explain how the trading and collector market works itself out.
    I feel like nft is definitely the right step, but just like with everything lately, people saturated it with items only chasing maximum profit, with zero long term vision, where now they are panicing and trying to build up a system around it: bored apes.
    Steve Jobs said: don't try to creat a product and try to find out how to sell it to people.. listen to what they need and then create the product.. that it the exact reason why these companies at their current form are destined to collapse.
    However I truly believe that with nft we explored something much needed, and with time noise will die down, and people who actually need it, will keep improving and benefit from it.

Even if you are banned from the game or choose to change accounts you still have the items you bought and the money isn't necessarily wasted, you can sell them or move them to alternative accounts without the game company being in control. Video game NFTs wouldn't and aren't typically on Ethereum bc of gas fees as you pointed out, they're typically built on chains that can actually support mass transactions at very low costs, such as Solana (not saying it is used, just using it as an example of a chain that can support something like this)

    I don't agree with what you said about the NFT gaming utility. While right now most play-to-earn games are basically smart Ponzi schemes (It's hard to make a p2e game that isn't. Trust me, we tried to design one), there are games like Sandbox or Decentraland where you benefit from your items being NFTs. (While not sure about these ones, In games like those anyone/everyone could theoretically start running the game if servers went down)
    Also, there is a place for NFTs as game cosmetics, I would love my CSGO skins to be NFTs, right now you just don't know what restrictions will Valve roll out or if you are going to get banned for no reason and lose them. (Also being limited by 7 trade ban).
    Finally, transaction costs are no problem with layer 2 solutions.
    Edit:
    The only way we found for a play to earn games to not be Ponzi schemes is to have a free economy with some form of finite resources and earning being based on getting
    "money" from other players (in exchange for something you collect or whatever). The reason play to earn games like Axie Infinity, based on getting money from the game itself, can't work long term is that everyone just wants to get money out but no one wants to put money in (except the first purchase to get in the game). You can't just create money out of thin air and give it to everyone. It needs new players and regulations from developers to work.

    Not all NFTs are on ETH, gas fees for gaming... just does not apply... NFTs in games are actually a way to empower the gamer and take away from the company taking all the profits, most people dont understand this. I can agree that many current games aren't great, but many games are coming that will change that.
    Wont list any so I don't sound like a shill...
    next, SEC is a big joke, "protecting" the consumer is something they have rarely ever done.... biggest example recently is them not allowing users to earn interest on Celsius,,, only users with networth above 1 M and 250 annual income allowed.... seems like just screwing the little buy again...
    Again I think you are focusing on mostly the ETH NFTs and the work there, while there are many other projects elsewhere doing great work...

      "next, SEC is a big joke, "protecting" the consumer is something they have rarely ever done" they didn't protect consumers when filing suit against XRP which has been ongoing for years now. When they filed suit the price plummeted and knocked XRP from 3rd highest crypto and tons of those "sec protected" consumers lost tons of money.... thanks SEC.

    @Amallak Před 2 lety +20

    Agreed with some of the points but some weren't accurate... I'll point out these first
    - alot of layer 2 are gasless, so why build a gaming NFT on top L1 where it cost a fortune to transact when you can build on top of stacks, polygon and immutableX and they cost close nothing.
    - NFTs applications will vary beyond art, nowadays art was the most obvious use case but digital ownership and smart contracts are needed for remotely anything and the next 3-5 years will prove that point.
    - almost 98% of projects are going to 0 that's guaranteed but also the %2 and more projects are coming to provide real value beyond just the hype and cash grabs, look for builders and solid communities and you'll be guaranteed to make it.
    - invest only what you can afford to lose and encourage those around you to do so, that way you don't need to go work for McDonald's if shit hit the fan.
    Thats pretty much my 2 cents and always DYOR folks

    • @georgeevans8021
      @georgeevans8021 Před 2 lety +2

      I agree, art is the main use case for NFTs right now but there are so many use cases that people have not even thought about. There will be NFTs that you can buy that will be the equivalent to having a Netflix subscription and holding the NFT will give you access to every film/series that has been uploaded onto the blockchain. The perks would mean that you could watch anything and nothing would be taken off like Netflix does right now.

    • @Amallak
      @Amallak Před 2 lety

      @@georgeevans8021 Absolutely, to name a few that I am enjoying right now while holding NFTs for a few projects; IP rights, lifetime access to web3 blogging editor, staking NFT yielding token that I exchange for money (fiat), tracking tool gated by an NFT and that's just to name a few, there are ones up & coming such as NFT that yields you token by jogging & running or there's another one I came across for cycling and doing IRL tasks, heck there's a mapping service right now that by holding their NFTs and installing a dash-cam on your car you will get tokens that are exchangeable for fiat.
      So, folks, art is just one side, NFTs technology, and digital ownership are far more than just art.
      Make up your mind, DYOR, and follow founders & communities, not hype.

    Another NFT maxi here, great video.
    As a developer the main values I see in NFTs is speed. NFT technology allows for an easy to implement bundle of tools. Its the combination digital ownership, programmable utility, and connectivity to marketplaces. These technologies are not new on their own but are incredibly difficult to put together. NFTs technology basically offers this bundle as an easy to implement service.
    The other value I'm seeing is giving the opportunity for people to buy into brands and be directly apart of their journey and/or community. Look at Azuki, and Haus as two examples of this. Azuki can be compared with Nike and Haus apple in terms of vibe. BAYC was the first to dip their toes into this idea but Azuki and Haus are innovating and taking it to another level.
    Who knows where this road will actually go and most of it is complete speculation.
    But I think it's easy to forget that innovation is happening fast in NFTs, they are not a static system, they will change.

      @@mackjones3939 It depends why you're holding them. Are you holding them because you want to get rich? Or are you holding them to just collect them? Individual NFTs themselves are just like any other collectable. If there is increased demand they will become more scarce and price will rise. If you think that in the future the amount of people collecting them will grow then they'll also grow in price.

    So I'm pro NFT, but I agree with many of the points in this video.
    Because there are so many projects that lack the 2 fundamentals that give NFTs value (collectability and utility), all of the novelty around the technology has lead us to see moonshot prices that just won't be able to sustain itself in the long term. I think the whole NFT industry is at risk unless projects start turning the tables and innovating ways to utilise the smart contract. Regulation is going to bite us and can lead to mass unpopularity making innovation very hard... a spiraling cycle. I feel that the solution is to build out the platforms that let us enjoy the usecases (social media x nft marketplaces like I'm building, metaverse ecosystems like Facebook is building) and ramp up the public adoption. The NFT bubble bursting can be healthy or detrimental. Healthy if it helps educate people about the danger of rug-pulls and to allow the novelty to wear off, leading to greater effort being required as a creator in order to sell out. Detrimental if the public sides with regulatory bodies in putting heavy restrictions on the industry as a whole.

  • @Mashhul
    @Mashhul Před 2 lety +1

    Another pro nft gaming argument *it's a good one, i guess*
    You could create a system that would not extort more money from players than they already do and use NFTs in at least 2 ways: profits, in-game utility. How would that look? We'll wait and see (probably).
    Secondly, it could do something else for the beginning. Instead of trying to make this thing a money machine, they could just start going after secondary markets of games.
    Such as players who buy items off of eBay for games, or from in-game stores.
    Just remove friction in the process and have a database forever. Also skins ofc.
    Probably there are more things that would work in the future for this.
    But as you said, the regulations will start coming and create a framework for all these new types of *potentially taxable, innovating* new ideas.

Like you own the character and that gives you special privileges within the game and ability to see everybody playing the character and be able to make money somehow off the character. If you really wanna tackle this, you need to address the human need for:
    1. (the illusion of) ownership
    2. (the illusion of) exclusivity
    3. PROFIT (the big daddy of them all)
    And make no mistake, even the stuff you can hold in your hand (like a painting or a super rare sculpture) only gives you the illusion of ownership and exclusivity for a very finite period of time. You can cling to it all you want but we all leave everything behind at some point, young or old.
    It's the illusion that counts. And NFTs help create the illusion (and sometimes along with profit).
    It is not about utility at all. People don't pay stupid money for "utility". That's a fact!

    I've been involved in the NFT space for a year, and I agree, 99% of them are useless haha but the 1% that do, are looking great.
    I do think your missing the point of decentralization, providence (huge issue in the art world), how the culture is going digital - people rather own a Bored Ape than a Lambo for example for the Flex. This is also just the beginning, we're only in the first year of Bored Apes. Gaming, play and earn is amazing and legit the opposite of what the current gaming standard is, like you mentioned people had enough with play to win games. Play and earn is truly industry changing. You can also legally sell your gaming assets (unlike now where it's against the TOS). AAA blockchain games are inevitable.
    Yeah the SEC will come down hard on NFTs for sure, but again there's a lot of projects that got lawyers and are doing it properly.
    Long story short, I think web3 is inevitable, it's just a matter of time. I do think everything will be tied to the blockchain including movie tickets, but I don't they will be exactly how we see them today, there's still lots of innovation ahead of us. NFTs only exploded in 2021, and only been around for 4 years. Keep that in mind !
