For nearly two decades, W. E. B. Du Bois attempted to write what he believed would be the definitive history of the African American experience in World War I. In this talk, Chad Williams explores Du Bois’s complex relationship with the history and legacy of World War I and what it reveals about the struggle for democracy, racial justice and peace in the 20th century.
Chad Williams is the Samuel J. and Augusta Spector Professor of History and African and African American Studies at Brandeis University. He is the author of the award-winning book Torchbearers of Democracy: African American Soldiers in the World War I Era and the coeditor of Charleston Syllabus: Readings on Race, Racism, and Racial Violence. His writings and op-eds have appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Time, and The Conversation. His most recent book, The Wounded World:
    W. E. B. Du Bois and the First World War was published in 2023 to rave reviews.

wow - a catastrophe not to have this published. Honestly, the truth is that he was oppressed and discouraged from publishing because he's intelligent and it would have made him too competitive with others. Thanks for sharing - I enjoyed it!.
