Gotta love that beginning, it describes an emotion I have never felt before.
Yeah, and you will never get it out of the system again. It is for life.
Yo Khachaturian, just wanted to ask, when are you dropping your newest album? You've been pretty quiet since 1978...
I have such a musical crush... There's no other way I can say it. I can always recognize his playing from all the other violinists. He just yanks at my heart strings.
MAGYARUL beszélni,nem kell ide angol.
Yes, Elizabeth, so do I!!
First heard him play Ysaye's Ballade from the 3rd Violin Sonata. Have been hooked ever since.
@@Musicienne-DAB1995 bro same here
Elizabeth F his playing is just stunning!
Hadelich is a gift. And good medicine for this time of the Virus. Feeds the soul and lifts spirits. Thank you for his presence among us.

Wow what a fabulous opening. Everything he does is crystal clear.
A great orchestra and a fantastic soloist and a great work by Bartok ..
What a night!!!
14:50 Such eclectic interests Bartok had. Listen to this fabulous interval in the style of a Hollywood blockbuster. Fabulous sound engineering (and nobody coughed!)
This is such a muscular, meaty piece, full of texture and contrast. It ought to be difficult to listen to, so much dissonance and impulsive intervals and even novelty effects. But it hangs together and even manages to be agreeable and comforting.
The soloist is a perfect protagonist. Mature, sure, confident. Nice job.
Jsem naprostý laik... nenacházím slov... naprosto úžasné, dechberoucí, jsem unešena krásou tónů...
A navíc obdivuji sólistu na housle. Hrát bez not, tak náročnou skladbu.... je úžasný, skvělý, jedinečný... až mi hrkly slzy dojetím.
Má mou hlubokou úctu!!! Děkuji za úchvatný zážitek 💖💖
This performance changed my opinion of the concerto. Fabulous.
It wears well no matter how much I listen to his wonderful and graceful performance
Astonishing performance by Hadelich of one of my absolute favorite Violin concertos! It was a true existential experience to hear him live in Oslo playing the Ligeti Concerto a few months ago. Wow!
Top three best Violin Concerto
This is one of the greatest violin concertos of all time.
This is by far the definitive version.
Expressively understood like no other. All of the colors are drawn from the soloists in a way that integrates the sounds, textures and intents throughout the whole score in a way I’ve never heard before.
Stunning and deeply moving!!!
I agree. It's nourishing as a hot cassoulette
This performance was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed the entire 38 mins of it. Hadelich you are very talented, as well as everyone else in this concerto.
My god I love his playing!
Gosh,,, this is amazing! Genius technique, brilliant dynamics and articulation...
I have never liked this concerto and gave up on it years ago. It's so complex and, most of the time, I am just wondering what is actually going on. However, Hadelich plays it with such conviction that he almost has me converted. I could hear in the finale much wit and a gentler humour.
Yeah, it's like a rambling hodgepodge of technical stuff never making a musical point.
Your ears are just not accustomed to listening to complexity. This violin concerto is very tame compared to a lot of other violin concertos out there (especially modern ones).
@@jason101other I used to think exactly that of a lot of late Romantic and contemporary works that I now love. So don't discount all modern methods. For example, I love Shostakovich but can't stand Stravinsky. The atonal works evoke absolutely no emotional response in me whatsoever. But keep your ears open for some of these composers who do have a solid sense of musical direction and structure.

Oh my there is so much to love about this video - first of all I love that Augustin has made a video of a performance of this particular concerto - a concerto and composer that he has championed since I first heard him in 2009, when he played a Bartok sonata in a recital program - incredible - life changing for me even! I love that he has been able to work with Vasily on this, what an incredible pair! I hope they collaborate more in the future! Augustin comes on stage with such a combination of enthusiasm and joy and yet also peace, and Vasily practically floats onto the conductor's stand with a similar confidence and enthusiasm about what they are about to perform! I love this hall and the lighting - it is warm - maybe even hot - and absolutely magical! - with the reddish lights and dark shadows working well with this intense and at times scary sounding concerto. And I looove the videography - such incredible camera work that has the viewer sailing around the hall - in for close-ups of Augustin's intense and handsome face and incredible fingerwork, and then back off for a long view of the whole setting, then back in close to see other instruments - harp, piano, trumpets, etc. I love that this concerto, when compared to how Bach or Mozart or Brahms makes me feel, is almost like a foreign language to me, yet Augustin makes it so thrilling and so beautiful and so understandable for me! Does anyone else wonder what is going on in Augustin's head as he plays through this intense and challenging and surprising work? What is he thinking as he creates this compelling and riveting musical story for us? He does have a wonderful CD and digital recording of the Bartok concerto which I highly recommend - available at Amazon and other places, but the Bartok concerto is one I have yet to hear Augustin play live, so I hope he will perform it somewhere near me in the near future. So many little favorite sections...that cadenza at 12:43 - how??? So many emotions, so many colors...such beauty and perfection!
As always, Bravissimo Augustin, you are the absolute best!!
Oh god I wouldve leapt on my feet as soon as they hit the last note, that was a monstrosity to put together and both soloist and orchestra did it elegantly but decisively... Thank you for this gift Mr. Hadelich and DNSO
That is some thorny, thorny passagework.
I concur with other people in this comments' section in their praise of Hadelich. His expression and fluidity are astonishing to watch. I have been a fan since I stumbled across him playing Ysaye's famous Ballade a while back. A real asset to classical music.
I may have a new favorite performance of this concerto. The gold standard for me has always been Isaac Stern with the New York Phil conducted by Leonard Bernstein. He managed to round the sharp edges while not sacrificing Bartok's unique sound, making it more lyrical and Romantic. This performance is similarly pitched, but with the more modern touches brought into better relief. The cadenza is brilliant.
You should check out the Gil Shaham recording with Chicago Symphony Orchestra

I completely agree. Stern was my gold standard too. But this young man is just something so very special. I am in awe.
Ever listened to Patricia kopatchinskaja
@@thevector384 Yep and I am not sure which of the two (Kopatchinskaja and Hadelich) I like more. So I decided to like both of them equally.
@@thevector384Patricia is a bit out of shape for me. She is a great violinist but her performance is not for me.
Cannot believe the under thousand likes. It just is not believable. He deserves so many more out of 60K views. What is up with this counting? He is remarkable is excellent. Just discovered him and so happy CZcams has these available. I have not sought out classical music like this as I had no access to hear the outstanding musicians. Please know Augustin you need a new manager who promotes you as you deserve to be, or perhaps you do not have Managers. I see an imbalance of the presentations of some musicians that have an unbalanced resposne compared to the many other outstanding ones. I look forward to searching for all your recordings and keep up with your new concert presentations. You play with a passion and skill tht is exceptional to me.
I just have to say, this man's hair is MAJESTIC! I mean, yeah his playing is good and all ;), but as a dude who has wavy hair, this is exactly what I aim for with my hair cut, and his stays perfect throughout a whole concert!
There's a good reason he was a pitch man for Wella Balsam before he took up the fiddle...
That’s as close to perfect as perfect gets. Beautiful.
Wow! What a tone and artistry!
Damn bro, you can flat out play!!!
Such a beautiful concerto ❤️Bartok 🙌
STUPENDOUSLY MAGNIFICENT!
Yay! Someone who plays the piece, not his ego! Great orchestra too. Very crisp.
Juz się zakochalam w tym skrzypku. Jest doskonały. Precyzja techniki i piekny dźwięk. Życzę mu fantastycznej kariery.
For years my favorite performance of this very special work was by Kyung Wha Chung in 1977. But listening and watching you perform made me weep. You match the brilliance and emotional intensity of Bartok's composition perfectly.
I've listened to this only because Augustin is playing...I still don't understand the composition at all but the music just keeps playing in my head and finding myself coming back to this recording.
Absolute brilliant playing. Couldn't be better.
I love his hair
Absolutely fabulous performance! Truly stunning. The best rendition of this fiendishly difficult concerto I've seen.
incredible performance of an incredible piece. It captures something genuinely animal in the human soul - and I mean this in the best possible sense - the werewolf concerto.
Marvelous performance by Hadelich. The dude is a force!
Such poise and elegance on a really underplayed piece. Hadelich is truly a master of beauty!
Not such a really underplayed piece at all.
I love this !
Thank You ♪♪♪
I love your sound, how you play, pure music! Thank you!
I could not find a better Bartok vc no.2 on youtube, he is really technical and emotional involved. The concert is technically demanded, but he takes all the difficulties and his tone is so much better, clearer than so many others. Great !!!
I would have been on my feet after the finish of the first movement. Yes, I know you’re not supposed to do that, but the cheering would have been irrepressible! To all who got to be a part of this magnificent effort, well done!!
Amazing! I m so moved! Thank you very much!!
This is a wonderful interpretation! Well done, Mr. Hadelich!
One of my favorite pieces for violin and Mr. Hadelich performs it masterfully. It's such a soulful work with that touch of Hungarian folk music in his melodies. Well done Mr Bartok and Mr Hadelich.
Love from Korea💖
He was phenomenal in Houston, at Jones Hall.
The Bartok #2 is not usually one that gets a lot of applause at the end - the 2nd and 3rd movements are just kind of weird. I remember learning this piece a long time ago and thinking "the first movement is great on its own..." No doubt about it though, Augustin is one of the greatest violinists working out there today. I am so freaking bored with Joshua Bell and Hilary Hahn, it's like those two just hog the spotlight constantly. They're two of the most boring players on the planet. I'm glad Augustin is getting his rightful turn in the spotlight nowadays. He deserves it!!
Bester Geiger! und die schönste Kiesewetter stradivari!
Amazing.!!!
Best performance of Bartok 2nd Concerto..Bravo augustin!
I always expect great things from Bártok's music. Particularly when it's written for violin. Still, every single time I listen to this performance, I think: "Bravo, bravo, bravo!!"
Wonderful interpretation. Thank you very much for this pleasure.
Amazing!!!
wonderful and brilliant!Congratulations!
Excellent!
Simply fabulous playing.
Bravo!!!!
With such passion you play)
Lovely content! Keep it up!
holy ************ this guy's gooooood
the best !!!!
Really enjoyed the performance in Seoul!
Oh never knew he was here. Please tell me if he comes again!
Lovely, marvelous concentration!!~!~!
I never expect perfection from a performance of this most intriguing, beautiful and demanding of violin concertos, but Hadelich really delivers it. Unfortunately, the ending is compromised by the overpowering percussion. We cannot hear the last 17 notes of this piece (strings), which take us right back to the opening notes of the first movement (but in a totally new way). Listen to the Isaac Stern version for reference.
You can't judge balance based on a CZcams video. This could have been entirely perfect live. I think Bartok knew what he was doing. Why assume the worst? You weren't there. End of story. Criticism N/A.
darren motise darren motise he’s not talking about the notes itself. He’s saying the percussion covered Hadelich too much and he’s the one that should be heard the most, not the accompaniment.
By the way, this video captures the sounds very well, so what we hear is quite accurate.
So yes, we can offer opinions on the blend and balance of this performance.
Your rebuttal is not a finality. It’s your projection of your damaged ego by suggesting it’s the “end of story.”
Please, that is the weakest, most simple minded ending to a comment i ve ever heard.
Obviously an opposing viewpoint crushes your hopes and dreams and so you start acting like god
darren motise he‘s not criticizing the music but the loudness of the percussionist. You need to chill to out, my friend.
This should be the conductor's issue. Right ?
@@pinpoint567 or the recording engineer. For instance, on every recording live and on disc, of the Prokofiev ctos. played by Hilary Hahn, the engineers (or the conductor, to be fair), allow Hilary to be buried under the orchestra. Those recordings are frustrating to listen to, since she played them so well. Much may be due to poor microphone placement, and maybe other issues as well.
a great concert, bela bartok was a very innovative composer of the xx century

Love the theme at 5:03, so simple yet soulful
Did you play an encore? What was it?
I didn't have the heart to be disappointed that the screen cut after such a great piece - I was too satisfied with the performance, but I'm curious.
Wonderful..
movie music has a lot to thank to bartok i think
Am I the only one who noticed he never looked at any guides he memorized the whole concert by mind! this is blowing my mind
That's normal
Will you please publish your fingerings and bowings? They are so nice.....
Bartok, Britten, Barber - What a change it is to hear the less popular concertos.

Interesting....
makes me want to buy better headphones.
can the brass ever come down at the very end so we can hear the soloist? probably not.
It may have been entirely different live. Mic placement picks up all sorts of things. Was this performance turned into a commercial CD?
What's with the giant airplane/train seats?
