    Missing the butterfly washer at the top. Should have been installed before the adjuster cable. Should have turned the drum to match the hub center. You can manually adjust the brakes but leave them just a bit loose. If the car pulls then adjust abit more to balance the pull. Car should seat the shoes evenly from there. Once they seated it may need another final adjustment. Great video for the basic tho. You guys are awsome!

    Great vid guys, coincidentally I'm doing my rear brakes as you post this vid; learned a lot. If possible id love to see a video on restoring a rear differential, or at least just the pinion seal and or axel seals, thanks again.

      Good idea, we have a nine inch rear axle we are planning to use on our '64 Falcon, we can certainly cover that. The 9 inch seal is covered in the Ford nine inch build we did last year. Episode 30 Part 1 Ford 9inch build using Detroit Truetrac Autorestomod That is the first one.

    Guys...I really really love your videos. You explain things really well and experience is evident. I WAS going to raz you about not showing the back brakes (aka you need to have 3 hands...lol) but looked over to the right...you have a video ! I am anxious to see what you did on the rear brake hose. I did all of my parts EXCEPT That because of that oddball one to two hardline contraption...was not feeling brave on the junction box ...but maybe...:-) ANYWAY...keep plugging..your videos are the best

    Outstanding video, learned a lot. Going to use a special tool for my F100 front drums - a checkbook. The rear drums are a bit less hassle, not needing any hubs pressed, no? Think might tackle those OK. Good tip about the backing plates, will keep in mind. Thanks again.

    So I got a 63 ford fairlane 260 500. Clean car. My left front spring broke that goes on the adjuster. I'm having a hard time finding a good kit. The kit I did get is part number h7045. The car does have the original shoes on it if there was changes I don't know. Just wandering if you came across this problem. Thanks

    I noticed you switched out the hardware from what it had originally. Is that what needs to be done? I have a 61 Mercury Comet and I'm having trouble finding the hardware kit. I have a picture i can show because it looks like i might have to update my hardware but I'm not sure. Hopefully this made sense and you can help. Greatly appreciate it.

    My 67 has that bar on the front, that you said was for the rear brakes right under the wheel cylinder. Should I take it off? And I had a really stiff brake pedal. The pedal hardly moves, and the car does stop, but takes a very long distance to stop. Suggestions where to start trouble shooting???

  • @rudsaki
    @rudsaki Před 8 lety

    Putting the spindle on the drum 1st is the preferred way? I have been leaving the spindle on the car and sliding the drum over it. '67 Fairlane with 10" front drums.
    At least I learned from your video that my yellow and green springs are reversed!

  • @worm427
    @worm427 Před rokem

    You didn't talk at all about how if you want to replace the drums on the front, you have to press the old drums off the hubs because no one sells the drum and hub assembly anymore. It is a total pain to do and I thought that once I got the old drums off the hubs that the new ones would slide on and off like the back but they do not. So if your going to change the front drums on your car it is best to source a machine shop or a shop that can press that for you ahead of time otherwise your going to be stuck on the hoist or in your driveway until you can get that part figured out. Can't wait to upgrade to disc brakes.

      All 65-70 Mustangs with front drum brakes have that spring underneath the wheel cylinder. Where did the one go on this car? It isn't reproduced.

  • @splortz
    @splortz Před 7 lety

    I had no idea how to use brake spring pliers until I watched your video. You can imagine being clueless and trying to mount brake springs, right. You can put your freakin' eye out! (my mother used to say that a lot.) So hey, thanks. Well shot. You can see everything, which is helpful. One thing--some new drums I've received have clearance in the stud holes, so they won't need pressing on. You can just slip them right over the studs. Is that safe? Correct part. Checked twice. • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 3 lety +1

      Go to the furthest wheel from the master cylinder and bleed that, then to the wheel across from it. Move to the furthest front wheel from the master and bleed that then the closest to the master cylinder.

    Thanks for this well informed video on how to do drums brake. I have a question every time I hit the brakes on my 69 mustang the driver rear drum shoe pops out of place what do u think might cause it. I have a video of it on my page if u have time to check it out.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 10 lety

      Sorry, we have not been getting all of our request! We just found yours. It looks like you are missing the spring that goes from the adjuster to the shoe. Watch the episode and the spring we apply with the locking pliers is the one you are missing. This has allowed the adjuster wheel to slip to the bottom of the shoe, out of the slot where it is supposed to sit.

    hey i have a problem with my 1966 mustang i bought new wheels for it, styled steel wheels, and now i think the wheel studs are to short. When i put the wheel on i only have 0,4 inch left on the stud. is that enough for the wheel nuts or do i have to buy new wheel studs?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 8 lety

      If your old wheels fit, the new styled steel wheels should fit too. You might want to check for interference between the disc brakes (if so equipped) and the wheel. Youcan contact Jeff directly at: jford@autorestomod.com

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 2 lety

      Those are the 10 inch drums. We were doing the 9 inch drums. The spring is therre to aid in return of the drum to its rest position.

    I test drove a 67 cougar the other day, being a first time buyer/driver of a old muscle car i didnt know what to expect for the braking. The seller told me he worked on the brakes him self, he had discs on the front and drums on the backs. But i felt as if the car was not stopping well at all and is a big problem. Is there a fix to this problem or is this common with 67 cougars?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 8 lety +1

      If the car is not boosted, you may be dealing with that. Most every modern car is now power assisted. A lot of folks will add the discs but not the booster and so it may feel hard on braking.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 8 lety

      +Paul Kassabian Usually it is a problem with the adjustment of the front brakes. You might try the backing up routine. But we'd look at the internals first to make sure that the stuff inside the drum is all where it needs to be.
