Should you upgrade your Adventure Boat to this Flipper 900ST? - Part 2 - Test Drive

  • This is an alternative to buying a bigger adventure boat. Made in Finland, outboard powered and sleeping for FOUR people in TWO cabins on a boat thats under 30ft and totally rips with a couple 225HP Mercs one a super sweet hull that will allow you to still run fast offshore in moderate conditions.
    The Flipper 900ST seems like it's been hiding out of sight to me but now that i've spent a day onboard i'm embarrased for not paying more attention to it. This is a high quality boat that deserves the attention because she packs a lot into a little boat and is built to withstand the Aussie climate and looks like a boat that will look after you for a long time.
    Flipper is under the umbrella of the Nimbus Group from Sweden but this boat is built in Finland. I understand this company has been around for decades and they have a race boat heritage which makes sense considering she'll hit close to 40kts with the smallest motors so should easily be a 50kt weapon with the twin 300hp!
    Have a watch and tell me if you agree with my thought process on this boat?
    Enjoy,
    Dan Jones

    That roof structure flex’s a lot under chop

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Před rokem +1

      Correct i think i mentioned that in the video. I also noticed that it appears to have been designed to allow for the flex as the GRP moulding does not carry through and instead it;s joined with Stainless. Reminded me of an aircraft wind in turbulance

    • @MultiMideo
      @MultiMideo Před 3 měsíci

      sure designed to flex :) its just design issue not intended design. Also - door in center and roof solution means that you get water on the dashboard. Bow sunbed design is not so good - air gets under it and cant have it with speeds over 10kts. And if you take it off (annoying) then there is no good place to store it. Most annying is that cant hide canopy/curtains - so they flap around and get destroyed. Would be good to hide these to side pillars or something like that. So for designer and engineers there is room for improvement. Space and usability is best in its class likely - this is why many having similar designs. Best Flipper boat is likely Parker Sorrento.

      Haha you know I actually meant to just call this Boat Life but when I went to register the name it was taken. So I just figured well I'm Dan.. so I guess I just call it Dans Boat Life? Even though these videos are aimed at YOUR Boat Life and not mine lol

    I just got one 2 weeks ago. It is with 2 x 300HP V8´s. It is really awesome, but still the 2 x 225 is still plenty of power for this wessel. We just spend the weekend 4 adults without any problems.

      Oh epic! So stoked to see this video reaching other Flipper owners! Tell me how fast is it with the 2 x 300hp? Felt like you would hit 50kts in flat conditions and the right trim, is that correct?

    • @michaelstorm8005
      @michaelstorm8005 Před rokem

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife I had it running 49 knots, hitting 50 for a couple of seconds. Thats really fast for a boat of this kind. It is surprisingly smooth, and the V8 engines sounds reallt fantastic. Thank you for a great video, by the way.

      Hi Michael. I have a Flipper 900ST too! How is the boat going? Have you had any problems with it?

      @@gittelm697 Nope. ☺️ It is an absolutely fantastic vessel. Both for cruising, a weekend for 4 people, or a whole summer on the European canals for three months for two people. It is a very high quality boat with many features, and great power. Love it. Are you satisfied with yours?

    It is a lovely looking boat, perfect proportions and classic slender good looks. Seems to go well too, even with the 225s. A bit like a mini Princess V40.

      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Před rokem +1

      That is actually a very good comparison (mini V40)! I agree with your points and yes the 225's are all you need for this boat.

    Greetings from Poole, UK. Think we saw you at the Palma Boat Show.
    Anyway… how about a review of the Parker 850 Voyager. We’ve had ours 1.5yrs and I couldn’t recommend a better boat in that class. Would be interested in your take on it.
    Keep up the good work 👍

      G'day Garry, yes I was at Palma so that was me! Say g'day next time.
      Yes i'm watching the Parker's get some traction down here in Aus. They are still relatively new so i've not had an opportunity to test one yet but i'll keep it in mind as Boat Show season is now down here so lots of boats to test.

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife we got drawn to your excellent channel earlier this year, just before Palma, as we were considering upgrading to the Beneteau Flyer 10 aka 32GT. All roads led to your reviews 👍😂
      Much as we loved the Beneteau, we got home and realised just how much we love the Parker 850. One huge thing in the 850’s favour is it’s 1.9m air draft, meaning that we can 95% of the time, slip under the two bridges between our marina and the sea, without queuing for them to lift. Even without the T, the Beneteau would mean we’d be in those queues.

    Cool! Have only seen them being reviewed in the UK, haven't heard of a Flipper distributor here in the USA (yet) so this was well worth watching. Appreciate the 'as tested' AUD, Dan. We can all adjust to our own currencies for a rough approximation. Dan, would you consider it fair to say this 900 ST is a quality & performance upgrade from the similarly sized & popular Jeanneau 895 and Beneteau Antares 9 cousins?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Před rokem

      This is my first experience with Flipper and I put the build category in the same category as Nimbus and Quarken so it's higher quality. At some point i'll get more organised and include USD/GBP and AUD but i'm not there yet. So I have driven the Antares 9 but not the Jeanneau 895. Yes it is a quality upgrade without a doubt and the hull is nicer through the chop when compared to the Antares 9 which threw up quite a bit of water. I suspect Flipper is noticably more expensive though..
      However... the Jeanneau 1095 was a pretty darn good boat in the waves from what I experienced so I look forward to testing a smaller Jeanneau.
