  • Well guys, it's been a long 3 years but my '82 Datsun 280ZX is finally road-worthy once more! Although the car is not finished yet, the frame rails have been replaced, along with the bumper mounts, and hatch lip (all were rusting from the inside out). I had the engine pulled, the strut towers repaired, painted the engine bay myself and refurbished the air intake, horns, ignition coil, etc. I sent the cam to Colt Cams for a regrind. Decided to take a risk on the most aggressive regrind compatible with my stock ECU, which they don't even have listed because it had only been made once before. Thankfully the risk payed off! Of course I had to upgrade the valve springs, got different lash caps, had the rocker arms resurfaced, and I had the valve stem seals replaced. If I hadn't decided to upgrade the cam I wouldn't have found out that the car was on the verge of self-destruction! The timing chain tensioner was only hanging on by one bolt, which was coming out with only a few threads left to go!! If that tensioner had fallen off, it would have been a KO!
Also keep in mind that I did a 3-month restoration a couple years prior to this one where I relocated the battery to the rear passenger side, had the rusty rocker panels replaced (had to be custom made), and the corner of the engine bay where the battery sits had to be replaced with new metal, among other minor repairs.
Next Spring the car is getting a fresh paint job (Championship White), updated low-profile bumpers, new headlight covers, coilovers, wheels, and a performance muffler. My Dad's '77 280Z might also get finished next summer, so expect to see some more car videos then including onboard driving videos! Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy the video! =)
