    Today we're pouring concrete in very cold weather. It takes a special mix and a special crew to pour successfully in these cold temperatures.
    In the video I explain what mix design we're using with one of my favorite ingrediants to make pouring easier.
    We know how the concrete will act because we pour in this type of weather all the time.
    It may seem risky, but for us, it's really not. You just have to know how to prepare, how to pour and what kind of concrete to use, how to finish the concrete and how to protect it afterwards.

    I feel ya Mike. Upstate NY here (and I'm also 58). Always thermal pants and if I'm gonna be outside, long johns too. 4 to 5 shirts. I also - and you may find this a big help - nice thick neck gator. Just stopping the cold from being on my neck is amazing towards staying warm.

    Thank you for putting the mix you used on the screen. It helped me a lot to understand how you need that combination in that weather. Like I said before we really don’t get into those situations in some parts of Texas because inspectors won’t even let you pour. Thanks for anther great video. You have another sub.
    Merry Christmas y’all.

    Mike, it would be cool if you had a clock running, and show folks how fast your guys work. It’s impressive how everyone works as a team.

    For the most part we pour in -10f to -40f and rarely do our trucks hoses freeze up. We don't run air to pressure the tanks but have either electric pumps or air diaphragm pumps to move our water and we just recirculate the water back to the tank. As long as the valve is open enough it won't freeze up while driving

    This year has felt quite a bit colder but we don't have any snow on the coast to prove it. Good thing you got it done before that last storm, what a mess that made.
    Thanks for the video, Mike, and have a Merry Christmas!

    Mike here in Wisconsin they sell little heat packs you can put right in your gloves. they are in sporting goods for ice fishing. Also huge lines of self-heating outerwear hit the market this year running on battery packs, heated socks have been sold forever around here.

    I have heard that over half the heat loss comes through your head. To stay warm I would suggest a good hat. I am almost 60 living in Michigan and have a rabbit fur hat that I save for REALLY cold days. It makes a huge difference. Merry Christmas!

    Any reason for the gas powered screed over the battery? Have you noticed any decrease in battery life with the electric in colder months?

    30 degrees isnt too bad give it a couple weeks you will be pouring in single digits

  • @andrewalaska
    @andrewalaska Před 8 měsíci

    I've wondered about heated aggregate as well. When I use 140 degree water the mix still only comes out at 55 degrees. Concrete is under 10% water so the hot water doesn't do a whole lot but it does make a difference. I poured on Friday with hot water and no accelerator but I used so much water reducer that my W/C ratio was only .4. We were off it in 3 hours.

    Sorry to say Mike but that is definitely more than a 7 or 8 slump. We pour lots of commercial concrete with testing all the time. I know a 10-12 slump when I see one
