- Supper's Ready from the album Foxtrot by Genesis (1972), arranged, performed and produced by Yngve Guddal and Roger T. Matte (January 2016)
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home
To take them to the new Jerusalem - Hudba
I watched this for 30 seconds thinking "Wow, these guys are intense" before I realized it was just a single photo.
Simply perfect, no over interpretation, no weird changes in melodies and their rhythms. Just PERFECT. Absolutely PERFECT.
Took me a couple of minutes to realise it was a photograph!
Haha same here. I was impressed how still they were, and still managing to play.
Jajaja until I read your comment ... it’s a photo !
Me too! There is some kind of trick of the eye
They were extremely concentrated.
@@danieledaroma1446 Or.......A trick of the tail !
Suppers Ready is the greatest song ever written, It will be more appreciated as time goes on, like a thousand years from now. Kudos for keeping the faith, as Peter and Genesis show us how good will prevail over evil.
zpizaman It is not a song, but a suite!
Agreed.
Yes it is!
No single song deserves the title of greatest song ever written. That`s selling humanity short. Plus I can think of at least of dozen "better songs" off the top of my head, and probably the next guy can think of a dozen different better songs. It's like trying to decide on the greatest person who ever lived, or the greatest animal, or the greatest color. It probably isn't even the greatest song ever written in your own opinion, as that's bound to change with time.
Whatever to this opinion someone expressed. I'm in my late 50's . I've been listening to this song since I was 7 in 1976 from seconds out. Nobody my age knew of this music. KC sunshine band was playing on radio. Suppers Ready is a masterpiece, priceless, unforgettable timeless, beautiful 25 minutes long story. Still brings tears to my eyes
They are able to reconstitute the athmosphere of Supper's Ready with 2 pianos. Which is not a simple task.
Listen to this without crying.
Simply impossible.
The note for "a flower!?" at 11:05 had me laughing. Brilliantly arranged and beautifully performed!
There is nothing better than the last section of this song. Nothing.
Yep when Steve Hackett plays out. Amazing
Saying that. This is close 2nd to Steve Hackett
I’ll never tire of hearing this composition, no matter who performs it. A song for the ages. Eternal🙏
11:07 A flower?!
Love your rendition!
Wow, they’re so focused they don’t even move!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
BEST Genesis rendition on piano...flawless execution and exquisite arrangement...these guys know all about this Matter...
I agree
This is great on it's own merits, not to compare with the original, as it is something with a completely different approach. Some people don't like it if Bach or Mozart gets interpreted by rockbands, but we should be open minded, and think about the fact, that these people amongst other let the music live forever as this is way to good to be forgotten.
Now that "classical rock" (Keith Emerson hated that term) has become--a-hem--[legit] "classical" (i.e. the thousand conservatory arrangements of 'Tarkus')it's ironically sobering to remember that progressive rock began with regular gigging mokes like Rick Wakeman being inspired by their old (usually Romantic Era) band and piano lessons.
I’ve listened to this in its entirety 3 times in the last couple of hours and am blown away by this exquisite interpretation. Very hard to keep a dry eye.... just like the original ! Thank you
Me too. I'm almost 60, been listening to this since I was 8
Having heard this song many many times, Every time you came to a spot I anticipated was coming and wondering how were going to pull it off, You did it. Great Job!!
Bravooooooo!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
listening to this arrangement for two pianos, we can cleary see how amazing the composition is. the apocalipse piece is astonishing!
Totally agree!
I totally agree. Got to say I had tears in my eyes at how perfect it all sounded. Since buying Foxtrot on release I must have played it thousands of times, but this rendition just blows me away.
Probably the most amazing thing I have ever heard.
Greatest Composers: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Tony Banks!
Shame his work without the other Genesis lads is utterly appauling
Dit he write it alone? All the guitar and bass parts, the vocal melody line and the lyrics? Didn’t know that.

This is astonishing! You have completely captured the spirit of the song. Gives me goosebumps!!! Thank you!~Sebastian
Very true to the original album phrasing and dynamics. Primarily flawless in most sections. Kudos boys. A worthy labor of love.
That was just stupid good. Makes me proud to be a human. Sheer brilliance. Every nuance was covered and then some.
I love it when talented musicians cover my favorite talented musicians, especially Genesis. I stumbled on this gem purely by chance and it's one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. I've been listening to the original since it was released all those years ago. Supper's Ready is where all prog jams start and stop, and the dedication and love for this timeless piece by these two incredible musicians is breathtaking.
The doubling is similar to the richness you get from a 12 string.
Lovely sensibility.
What a find...thank you!
Amazing! beautifully played. Captures true beauty of Suppers ready. Saw Genesis play this live in 1977 in Manchester! Such memories!
Graham Brooks aren’t you fortunate. Do you ever go to watch Elbow?
I have seen them in Rome, January 1973.
4 hands are literally 4 musicians! Awesome rendition and arrangement.
The beautiful mind of one Anthony George Banks.
This is a full Genesis composition.
This should have many more views. Great composition of an already great original composition.
Amazin supper ready's by two pianos
#amazing
well done gentleman,...the 9/8 section lends itself to the power of two pianos like this.. loved how the twelve string parts were picked up by the second piano..
Damn good job boys. I find myself singing with you.
Me quedé impactado de escuchar tan excelsa versión acústica en piano. Maravillosa. Que puedo decir....GRANDIOSA
STEPHEN PRUTSDAL
Wish this was available as a recording or download..... Superb supper's been served!
Superb rendition! Two pianos catched the inner spirit of the astonishing score! It'a a pleasure to follow you in such musical experience, kwowing well the whole suite made by seven movements.Thank you for posting it!
God bless you! It's the ever play the master piece of very unique son, more and new classic sound... Thanks.
Amazing!!! great!! thank you very much
Fantastic. How anybody - Genesis fan or otherwise - could not enjoy this is beyond me. This is a remarkable work. Thank you - your talent deserves praise and attention.
Wow! Amazing. Brilliantly played.
I just wish it was higher quality. This piece expresses itself differently on piano and I love it.
This keeps coming up in my feed, and I keep listening. Absolutely stunning. Thank you.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Wow, this is superb. What a magical rendition of such a wonderful timeless piece of genius composition. Incredibly complex in places. Well done indeed.
No words, incredible!!!!!
what a joy! thank you so much for posting. how wonderful!!
Una de las mejores piezas del rock progresivo
No soy experto en música, mucho menos en rock progresivo, pero diría que Supper's Ready, Echoes y Tarkus, están al menos entre las 5 mejores piezas de rock de todos los tiempos.

Emphasis how creative and versatile this piece is !
So glad these two men translated vocals to perfection, I'm sure Tony Banks is proud of this concept.
Hearing this rendition it makes this part of the lyrics even more alive:
"Can't you feel our souls ignite?
Shedding ever-changing colours
In the darkness of the fading night"
Stunning performance!
Just beautiful.
Superb. Thank you and Genesis.
Great stuff, always very fascinating to hear how masterpieces of rock (here prog rock) can be interpreted beautifully by pianos alone! Would be really with for a CD on its own together with other great interpretations!
Wow... Such an incredible performance!
GREAT job on a complex piece!
Wonderful!!!
Malheureusement.
mind. blown.
That was absolutely brilliant 👏 well done guys....
Il più grande brano mai scritto da quando esiste il rock......
Flawless. Devastating Beautiful. Suppers Ready As pure music it arouses deep emotional reactions from within. Knowing the words behind the tunes is the diadem for those familiar with the 1972 original. This pairing did not miss a note. a rhythm nor a harmony. By far the best transcription of any of Tony Bank's. works, and there are some good ones out there. This is simply magnificent
Celestial music, bravissimi 👍👍👍
its like looking at the earth from outer space.
As opposed to the work load in my last job which was like looking at outer space from earth !
BRAVO !!!!
Wowwwwww. Faithful, flawless....really quite uncanny. This is a delight. Bravo.
GREAT.
Fantastic! Always a pleasure to listen you, boys!
Wow, this is so beautiful, cudos to the pianists! I am blown away
Outstanding amazing beautiful
Fantastic!!!!
Perfect! Thank you opening a new horizon on this master piece.
Magic.
It's great that you went on doing such magnificent arrangements of Genesis songs for two pianos. Supper's Ready would feature nicely on a record... This is another splendid achievement. I really like the two CD's you've done with Roger T. Matte.. Many years ago, I reviewed at least one of the two CD's of these wonderful arrangements with big pleasure as I love classical music and this shows that Genesis had classical influences and could sound like classical music... We're not so far sometimes from late 19th/early 20th century composers... I once read that Tony Banks liked Sibelius and maybe I finally listened to many of his orchestral works thanks to this reference...
Well done! That has been an absolute favorite of mine for eons. I just love all the transitions in it.
Brillante interpretación..el Apocalipisis me parecio maravilloso. Felicitaciones. Un gran trabajo
Love it !
phenomenal
Excelente interpretación
Walking across the sitting-room, I turn the television off
Sitting beside you, I look into your eyes
As the sound of motorcars fades in the night time
I swear I saw your face change, it didn't seem quite right
And it's hello babe, with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true
Coming closer with our eyes, a distance falls around our bodies
Out in the garden, the moon seems very bright
Six saintly shrouded men move across the lawn slowly
The seventh walks in front with a cross held high in hand
And it's hey babe your supper's waiting for you
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true?
I've been so far from here
Far from your warm arms
It's good to feel you again
It's been a long long time
Hasn't it?
I know a farmer who looks after the farm
With water clear, he cares for all his harvest
I know a fireman who looks after the fire
You, can't you see he's fooled you all
Yes, he's here again
Can't you see he's fooled you all?
Share his peace, sign the lease
He's a supersonic scientist
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary man
Look, look into my mouth he cries
And all the children lost down many paths
I bet my life you'll walk inside
Hand in hand
Gland in gland
With a spoonful of miracle
He's the guaranteed eternal sanctuary
We will rock you, rock you little snake
We will keep you snug and warm
Wearing feelings on our faces while our faces took a rest
We walked across the fields to see the children of the West
But we saw a host of dark skinned warriors standing still below the ground
Waiting for battle
The fight's begun, they've been released
Killing foe for peace, bang, bang, bang
Bang, bang, bang
And they've given me a wonderful potion
'Cause I cannot contain my emotion
And even though I'm feeling good
Something tells me I'd better activate my prayer capsule
Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate
The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord
Wandering in the chaos the battle has left
We climb up the mountain of human flesh
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life
A young figure sits still by a pool
He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool
He is you
Social Security took care of this lad
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower
A flower?
If you go down to Willow Farm
To look for butterflies, flutterbyes, gutterflies
Open your eyes, it's full of surprise
Everyone lies like the fox on the rocks
And the musical box
Oh, there's Mum and Dad, and good and bad
And everyone's happy to be here
There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag
He used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag
The frog was a prince
The prince was a brick, the brick was an egg, the egg was a bird
(Fly away you sweet little thing, they're hard on your tail)
Hadn't you heard? (they're going to change you into a human being!)
Yes, we're happy as fish and gorgeous as geese
And wonderfully clean in the morning
We've got everything, we're growing everything
We've got some in, we've got some out
We've got some wild things floating about
Everyone, we're changing everyone
You name them all, we've had them here
And the real stars are still to appear
(All change!)
Feel your body melt
Mum to mud to mad to dad
Dad diddley office, Dad diddley office
You're all full of ball
Dad to dam to dumb to mum
Mum diddley washing, Mum diddley washing
You're all full of ball
Let me hear your lies, we're living this up to the eyes
Ooh, aah, na-na-na
Momma I want you now
And as you listen to my voice
To look for hidden doors, tidy floors, more applause
You've been here all the time
Like it or not, like what you got
You're under the soil (the soil, the soil)
Yes, deep in the soil (the soil, the soil, the soil!)
So we'll end with a whistle and end with a bang
And all of us fit in our places
With the guards of Magog, swarming around
The Pied Piper takes his children underground
Dragons coming out of the sea
Shimmering silver head of wisdom looking at me
He brings down the fire from the skies
You can tell he's doing well by the look in human eyes
Better not compromise, it won't be easy
666 is no longer alone
He's getting out the marrow in your backbone
And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll
Gonna blow right down inside your soul
Pythagoras with the looking glass reflects the full moon
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand-new tune
And it's hey babe, with your guardian eyes so blue
Hey my baby, don't you know our love is true?
I've been so far from here, far from your loving arms
Now I'm back again
And babe, it's gonna work out fine
Can't you feel our souls ignite?
Shedding ever-changing colours
In the darkness of the fading night
Like the river joins the ocean
As the germ in a seed grows
We have finally been freed to get back home
There's an angel standing in the sun
And he's crying with a loud voice
"This is the supper of the mighty one"
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home
To take them to the new Jerusalem
Wonderful. A joyous, powerful journey every time I listen to this song. Sure hope my neighbors like it. Majestic. Cannot contain my emotions...
this should have way more views!
Very good guys!!!
I frequently hear Debussy influences in Banks approach to building harmonies.
Awesome.
