My grandma owned this cheongsam in her 20s (she's ninety now!). It's obviously way too small on me so with fabric from a thrifted curtain, I turned it into this matching two piece set!
Oh yeah....... ruining a shirt that was worth 50 dollars and in a few years would have worth more. Is so cute. Especially when you make it look like the millions of cheap 💩 that fast fashion puts out every year just to be thrown away and sent to another country to pollute their poor people's home. Yup so cute 🙄
@jessicapearson9479 maybe it's not about money....and it's about turning something given to her into something she can actually wear. That cheongsam was TINY on her, and she wanted to make something that could actually fit her. Also, it's hers. You don't really have a say in what someone does with their own clothes. Plus, it's not like that was the only cheongsam in existence. Come on, now. I'd also like to add that fast fashion is based on higher quality items. And the exploitation used to make fast fashion has nothing to do with a lady hand-sewing something.
@@jessicapearson9479 the only garbage here is your negativity and opinion. She's very creative and did justice to the shirt. And how tf is it fast fashion? 💀 She literally thrifted it into something she'll actually wear. Better than throwing it in the closet and having it eventually go to waste.
@@jessicapearson9479all you care about is money right? "It will keep going up in price", it's better the dress gets used in some other way than just sit in the closet and rot to "preserve its original design". You even saw that it doesn't fit her! Then what can she do with it??? Take your crap somewhere else.
@@jessicapearson9479it literally can’t be fast fashion if you’re making it yourself. And that outfit, while unique, it’s very much something that can be worn for many decades.
@@sofijones5048 Actually it's a lack of food in general. Her grandma is likely from super old communist China - ya know, time when many people there starved to death under Mao? Read a history book. Asian people are actually getting taller now cuz nutrition is getting better. This girl is not fat or overweight. Just shut up if that's what you're hinting at.
Well, China’s beauty standard is VERY skinny, underweight, 90s ‘heroin chic’ kind of skinny. So her grandmother would’ve been pressured to keep herself thinner even if she wasn’t malnourished or anything. A lot of Westerners find themselves having to buy large in China even If they’re normally like a small or medium in the US.
@@Sarawarawara- that's a lot of assumption about someone you don't even know. People can be naturally thin because of genetics and struggle to gain weight. It doesn't have to be malnutrition or beauty standards. Different people have different bodies and I hope y'all learn that not everything is about beauty standards.
I absolutely love yhe pop of color the pockets have! This outfit is s really nice way to honor the original garment's vibe while also making it wesrable again. Perfect flip!
The final result looks awesome! I’m currently in the process of zero-waste up-cycling my women’s Yukata and kimono into equivalent men’s garments. I remember crying over this when I realised I was trans and wondering what to do, so now I’m overjoyed that I can keep wearing these reminders of the only safe part of my childhood with extended family in Japan. The ones that can’t be altered, I’ll most likely still wear in my own way as gender-fluid fashion because I still love them so much!
That’s such a lovely idea, idk if you have a channel but I’d love to see the results! I have some beautiful shalwar kameez that I wore a lot when I was younger, and I’d love to alter them to be more gender affirming now. Being cunty is gender neutral to me though haha
I almost started crying when I realized you were going to cut it but I very quickly was so impressed with your skill and eye for designing this outfit. It came out so beautifully! Thanks for sharing 🖤
Creo que es un homenaje a ese vestido de tu abuela. Además guarda la esencia de los años 50's con ese precioso pantalón. Precioso patrón . Es la primera vez que te veo. Felicidades!
I wish we could've see her reaction! This is honestly so gorgeous! Looks lightweight as well, so it don't doubt it's breathable and not heavy on the skin.
I love that you're honoring your culture, your grandma, and yourself all together in one set!! Gives a new meaning to family heirloom and I'm so here for it!! I'd love to find a way to do this with a family hanbok 🫶🏻
Aww ❤sweet and sentimental. How smart you are lady. I should look at doing something like this for my relatives. If they have some thing I could ups cycle with respect like this. In the front by the time you turn 45 and he may want a little different.
This is a stunning recreation/upcycle 💯🪭🪭 I love the pocket detail and the tie up back is genius. You kept the theme but modernized it and made it your own❤ just amazing !
Wow!!! That is insanely cool how you made that from something your grandma wore when she was young because it didn’t fit you! It looks so cute on you ❤❤ I want to try something like this now
Screaming at the final result, this is SO CUTE!! Such a great way to give an old piece of clothing new life!

Goodness - her grandma must have been super tiny if that dress was too small for this talented young lady. The outfit looks great!
