  • When working with dates, one of the common types of analysis is period vs period, such as Year over year, and Month over month. In this article and video, I'll explain how you can use DAX to write calculations for month-over-month simply in any Power BI report.

    Hi! Really useful! How could I built the same instead for one month for 6 months vs. the prior 6 months? Or if somebody wants to dynamically select how many months to compare to prior months?

    This is really useful, thanks. I wonder if this could be used for future date calculations. for example where I want to see my budget for the next 6 months after the current month based on 10% of the total budget for example

    How would you account for a situation where the previous period is a weekend day? How can you use the most recent Friday in the situation?
    Thanks great video!

    What if you are trying to use the calculate field based on a text field (not a number field like your example with sales)?

    Hi. Please, how would you treat it if a month is blank? Example: january has 10 and february blank, with 5 for december. I would like to compare 10 for january with 5 for december (skipping the blank month)

    Could you please suggest in the same chart how to get the tool tip showing last year month ,Nov-2020 while hovering on right side bar should show as Nov-2020 and hovering on left side should show as Nov-2021. Right now both the bars while hovering are showing the same MMM-YYYY i.e Nov-2021 which is little confusing to the users

    If you filter 1 month (current month), the LM will be gone.

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  Před 2 lety

      Correct. this is because the FILTER CONTEXT in that case will be only a month, to change that, you'll need to add something to prevent it from happening, such as using ALL function or similar.
