Ideas for grade 3 social studies for someone having not had a social studies curriculum yet- we super focused on science in 2nd grade!
Thanks for the thorough review! In looking at your Cons list, have you considered Five in a Row? It’s literature based, there are no elements except the books and an optional map, and you can keep it simple with just a couple subjects and conversations, or dive deep and do all the subjects listed including art. We kept it simple and have great memories of the books and conversations! It’s not purely social studies, but there is a lot of “people & places” discussions.
I do love the idea of five in a row but hasn’t considered it bc I love what we’re doing for all the subjects except social studies but it is an amazing curriculum
@@LifeintheMundane Makes sense!
I agree with you that the topics needed to be driven into more and more play based!!!
❤️
We did My Story 1 in our first year of homeschooling and I completely agree with what you said. Level 1 isn’t much different for the most part and would have appreciated a book list as well.
That’s interesting I was wondering how it compared to level 1
We have been doing My Story 2 for the last month or so and I finally came to the conclusion that I hate it. Its so bad. I would describe it as random. I wanted to love it but it is just all over the place.
That’s interesting I was wondering if the older books would be less random but I guess not
I agree Master books away never really enough especially in the older grades
Thanks for sharing
I've been curious about this curriculum. Good info! Is there another social studies curriculum you would suggest for Kindergarten age?
Not yet but if I find one I will tell you for sure
@LifeintheMundane Hi! Any updates on a social studies curriculum that you like?
@@BNerdalicious09 I just found a social studies curriculum called First Grade Essentials for Social Studies on Christian Book and i love it! I have a second grader and a Kindergartner and I like to do family style subjects. But I figure we can just do 1 page together as a family each day. And it has project based activities, vocabulary cards you can cut out, and it doesn’t have as much busy work as some workbooks. It’s perfect for us.
We did this a few years ago. And it was not a good fit at all for us!
I’m so thankful that we have so many options so we can find what works best for each family.
The "uniform" example is very, very odd. That would be a sort of warning light for me.
Yes I didn’t really feel like it was an appropriate example
I also didn’t like it at all, BUT my son loved righting his own story
❤️
We didn’t like My Story either!
I think it could be good for some but yeah definitely not for me.
