Just like “Persona 3”, I think “Suikoden V” got overlooked by releasing on the PS2 instead of the PS3, which was starving for JRPG’s the first 2-3 years of its life. It’s sad because “Suikoden V” is my favorite of the Suikoden series!

I absolutely agree with this. It's really sad the series has apparently died. I'd kill to see a number 6. Heck, even a graphical remastering of the first and second games could be amazing--with voice acting, etc. It could introduce, literally, a whole generation to a classic.

    • @TheGoldenPS1
      @TheGoldenPS1 Před 4 lety +4

What makes me even more sad. Konami planned a RPG project for PS3 which I assume was Suikoden. Instead of waiting for Suikoden 6 that got cancelled they could have made Suikoden 5 for PS3 like you said.

    • @Lost_Avenger89
      @Lost_Avenger89 Před 4 lety +1

Suikoden V would have needed a major overhaul to be on the ps3. Not just the bad load times, but traveling in general. Persona 3 didnt do as well because it was generally in a pretty niche category. On top of that, atlus likes to not produce a ton of copies of the game. Only reason I heard about it was because of the invoker controversy.

About Georg, you missed the fact that his legend goes back to Suikoden *1*!
In Marie's inn, six guys are talking about the Five Great Generals but one of them says 'The Six... I mean Five Great Generals' and nothing more is said about it, except we know that at the end of the Gate Rune War, there are indeed Six Generals again.
This is the first in game hint of Georg because we learn in Suikoden 2 that there were meant to be Six Generals all along and that Georg was the sixth but left before the first game, hence why the guy in the inn wasn't making verbal nonsense - it was a genuine slip on his part, and foreshadowing that a general had left and that having Five Generals only wasn't the norm!
However there is one more piece of evidence to indicate this from Suikoden I - the Japanese instruction manual, which has a picture of the Six Great Generals... including a certain guy with black hair and an eyepatch!!!! The manual picture also includes someone who decidedly isn't Sonya Shulen - it's because it's her mother, Kilawher, who was part of the Generals when Georg was.
So Georg's eyepatch look and his existence was being foreshadowed even as far back as the original Suikoden. I guess they soft retconned the eyepatch for Suikoden 2 before the creators of 5 decided to go back to it.

I first played S5 right around the beginning of the PS3 era. I had already ordered some games and was waiting for them and really wanted a jrpg. I went into a shop and there it was. Suikoden 5. I did not know anything about this series but the cover was nice and so I bought it.
It begins rather slow with a lot of politics and character development which is totally fine and even more so in this game. Because I got really drawn into it. The world, the Nobels with all their agendas, the dynamic between the prince and his sister and his parents and the royal guards. And right when I got comfortable and thought "Well now I will probably go exploring" BAM the games shifts gear and changes completely.
And I was so angry (at the villans) happy (because of the awesome game) and was totally into it.
And so with no effort at all this game jumped into my top ten all time favourite games of all genres.
It doesn't have the best graphics but who cares it has great world building, characters and an awesome story.
I wish they would make another one someday.
Ni No Kuni 2 has some similar aspects with characters, armys and such but its just not the same.

He will have the sword of night rune. I played Suikoden II first. i got f'n addicted. Searched an guide on the ethernet to get all the charackters. After that i played Suikoden 4. And without spoiling i love the charackter dynamic in the story.
After that i played Suikoden 5. It was the biggest most grandest adventure i had the pleasure to witness. there even were different outcomes based on your choices at some points.
It had less charackters then the 2nd one. But it felt more grand in scale non the less. I love that series. It dosen't had the capebility to give every charackter the necessary development.
But the story that is there. give the charackters that are in the storys center allways the attention they deserve. the gameplay was also enjoyabel all the way throught and very divers. it might be a bad example but i would even say gameplay wise it fused genre's like nier. only more RPG genre focused.

Suikoden V is one of the best jrpgs I've played and no one played it =/ Getting the good ending sticks with me, the way the ending cutscene is mostly unvoiced, AND with no text, but with the characters body language you can still understand what they were saying and what was going on. It was a perfect ending.

    Ah... I remember this game.
Suikoden 1 and 2 were gems. While 3 was a bit of a mix. 4 and its vast ocean and unbearable enemy encounter rate was horrible.
5 felt like a good return to the good old days. And not to mention that the story was pretty neat. A lot of political intrigue while keeping it within the realm of the IP.
I even played the one on the DS, which was also pretty cool.
Here's to hoping the next Suikoden is a banger.

Fact #1: There's a such thing as a Suikoden 5.... I loved 4 and beat it multiple times, seen both ending, took different party members for my 'stranded' starting party (finding out that didn't actually matter), finding all 108 stars, having fantasies about the woman who worked the magic shop (I was very young), etc, and I never knew that there was a Suikoden 5....

-Suikoden I (much drama in this series)
-Suikoden III (I like the story and i love Flame champion)

Didnt characters in Suikoden 1 & 2 leave when a character tied to them died? I kinda remember such thing to be in those games.
Also how is "George Prime is in Suikoden V" smth someone who played Suikoden V wouldnt know? He is VERY present on the cover and appears in one of the first scenes and even the intro.
Oh are they expensive? Maybe for americans, but the european ones are from what I checked 3 years ago quiet cheap, got it for around 10 bucks back then.
Also Tierkreis means Zodiac in german. Speaking of: the german translation for this game is messy, like I dunno what the localizers did, if they were underpaid or smth, but one of the easiest thing that is messed up in that game is that the yes & no options have been reverse far too often in that game, like how do you mess that up?!
What also is weird is that u say that "over a decade, it became a classic" when from what I read up in forums from around the release is that Suikoden V, for those wh oplayed it, loved the game quite some, some even saying it is the best Suikoden title (which I can partway agree, I do see that game on par with Sui2). It was still niche and if u dont put out ads, nobody will notice your game (or put it in a critical release window).
I do think the directing has flaws at certain points of the game, harming its atmosphere, immersion or built up up to certain points, esp towards the end of the game (basically nearly everything after the siege on Doraat, excluding the war battle against the queen and the consequences of that, but for exampel Sauronix, a town being built upvery early in the game as the military HQ of the land, is udnerdeveloped and the castle itself feels unfinished, and Doraat follows these steps. Like revisiting Doraat doesnt even show off anyting of substence for characters, worldbuilding nor big secrets besides its huge walls with way too much space in them to hide treasure chests. The character development or built up for the apparent main antagonist was "there" as there is a lot of unspokenness, that, even if deciphered, lacks critically, even self awareness. Or that a certain mother figure of the Barows family including the room was never finished or given any voice lines nor cutscenes. Speaking of: The majority came off as stiff and overacted in performance (not by voice, but how the gestures and movements come across, lazy or rather undetailed/unrelatable). Also the feeling that Luserina was made to be the 2nd choice of potential love interest for the main character with her being VERY prominent about the prince, and giving off some vibes that she may be interested in him but is either too ashamed of her family or that she thinks that she isnt worth him, aka rather reserved/unfulfilled, esp cuz u get some choices in dialogue with her that does look like showing affection towards her, and she doesnt mind that at all. I do believe that is because this was unfinished and thus cut from the game. You also got quite many empty rooms and a certain bath room (for scenes) in the venice like city on the biggest boat (the dahakan?) which u have as an HQ for a short time, but the bathroom, with quite some experimentation, does go unused and feels like leftovers. I do like the game, it has MANY details when you know where to look and if you play carefully cuz there are quite many timed based events (like most suikoden games, except 3 which feels like the biggest option to recruit any character at any time) that u can miss out that I rly adore, heck, I even found out that some dialogues change when u get certain characters at certain points in your party (having Sagiri in the party when fighting the war battle against the queen and talking to her after the battle but before speaking to Kyle/meeting the others at your room).
I do wish Belcoot was more put on the spotlight with his kind of built up before the story basically dumped him (for relateable reasons), as he was basically the "chosen" man for Lymsleia and him wanting to end the sacred games so people like him (he is a gladiator) can be free of this style of life. I mean Belcoot would easily be an not so unimportant part of the story with his involvment about the royals and nobles and giving ultimately him an ending he deserves, besides his rematch which is entirely optional with a certain someone. Oh and he can stay married to Lym just to be "there" as a authority and still be in a real relationship with Melina or whatever the innkeeper's name was, cuz I dont think he would like a girl like Lym to be in a relationship with a someone of his age xD
Kinda disappointed that this is a video about Suikoden V "things most people dont know", yet you could have easily picked the target about a certian blondie's misunderstood motivations and Bernadette's relation to the prince, because things are only teased or never really been spoken directly to the player, or how Lorelai "jokingly" admits she is part of the Sindar folk when u speak to her in the war battle night against the queen (some characters have changed idalogue if you talk to them twice!) or Lucretia (the strategist of this game) being.. homosexual (and her lovers, Lelei & Cathari (strongly hinted at she knows Lucretia from a time both dont wanna talk about) and witnessed the great fire on the grasslands from Suikoden 3 (she is also quite misunderstood from some comments I read on her about her thinking and knowledge and "perfectism" but all these are explained, like her having a past with the royals before the start of the game), or about the head of the nethergate organisation being complelty absent from the game but heavily mentioned in some non story dialogues and one character looking for that guy after the war would be over (him being Oboro, the detective/char investigator of the game)!

i actually loved suikoden 2 more than this. Honestly i felt like one of the downfalls for this game to me was its colors. It looked super dull and didnt have the vibrant colors of the other games. It was the only main flaw i could find that just made it not be able to compete with suikoden 2 in my books
