- Richard is almost 60 and has been homeless for 6 years. He became homeless due to his marriage falling apart which led to depression and alcoholism. His condition meant he was unable to work. Richards sense of humour is heart warming to see. In a different reality Richard could well have been a manager in a large company training other people. Richards story is the story of many others that are homeless just like him. We wanted to do something nice for Richard and decided to make a Part 2 to his journey with us. To be continued...

Homelessness is a growing issue for the UK with more than 300,000 people living on the streets. Many of these people don't even make it onto the official figures.
The Unseen is an organisation we set up to give Homeless people a platform to have their stories and their struggles heard. We also want everyday people to have an opportunity to understand what leads a person into being Homeless. We at the The Unseen believe that everybody has a responsibility to help the unfortunate.
We want employers and regular people to support the homeless towards getting back into work and off the streets.
We hope their stories can touch the hearts of many.
Living on the street is no way to live.

Richard used to sleep where I lived. I stopped seeing him around jan feb time and I’ve missed him ever since. I used to speak to him and he’s such a lovely man. He always made me laugh when we spoke, once I asked him if he wanted anything from the shop and he said “anything but tuna” I misheard him and bought him 2 tuna sandwiches. He wouldn’t stop teasing me about it but he is one of the most genuine men I’ve met. I hope to see him again some day, even though I’ve moved location myself now. If it’s possible to show him this comment I hope you can, he’s a man I’ll hold close to my heart for the rest of my life
He's very intelligent very smart man,God Bless him I hope he gets out if this!!
He seems to be so nice. I love his jester about his grandchild , i hope his son sees this n touch base with him. Nothing is too hard for God to do. I hope things turn he's so intelligent .
Thank you for helping him 🙏
Alcohol is so dangerous... it worsens the symptoms of depression
True.
I love the interviewer. He ask good questions with interest and compassion. My heart is so heavy listening to the homeless circumstance. Knowing that anyone can be in the same situation no matter how good they feel they have it now. We never know where life will take us. It is only by God's grace and mercy least any man should boast.
It is so sad to see, he seems such a nice man
Blessings for you Richard, I hope things get better for you very soon and you find a home and companionship.
What a great guy with integrity and character, good luck and god bless
I could sit down and talk with Richard all day and night and I really respect his honesty,I hope that he finds a place and can get the dog he wants.god bless you sir.
Oh my Good Lord, he trys to still have a sense of humour bless him, but his pain goes deep, such an intelligent man, what a shame he can't get off the demon drink, I pray he finds some help, but he has to try for himself, he's a grandad he needs to be with his family bless him, these videos make thank God for what I have
A person who is an alcoholic needs more than housing to get off the streets. They need rehab, counselling and support groups. Without the ongoing support they just end up lying on their bed drinking all day cos of depression and isolation. They may also return to the streets cos of the feelings of hopelesness and loneliness.
people need to realize that, just because their life has been on track so far, they could become homeless in the future like this guy
@Dizzy D - while most people are 2 pay slips away from not being able to pay the rent, i'm not sure most people would be homeless (in the 'street homeless' sense) in that situation. A lot of people have relatives or friends they could live with, until they get back on their feet. A big commonality i see with homeless people is that they generally don't have that social support network (because they grew up in foster care for example or have had recent family breakdown) so when hard times other people would have help weathering hit and they lose 2 paychecks, they can't get through them.
@Dizzy D - I know what you're saying is often true, but I also know families exist that would prevent relatives becoming homeless (for example, one of my uncles let my other uncle stay with him for a few years when he was out of work due to his alcoholism which would probably have led to him being homeless otherwise).
I wonder what the proportion of these families are, and how big a factor having a supportive family is in avoiding homelessness? I know growing up in foster care is a big risk factor
I had just come out of The Barking ASDA,the very moment this interview was going on
I believe you can get out this situation you are intelligent and can do this you can beat this.
Thank you the Unseen for sharing this emotional story 👍. This man is intelligent and kind and he deserves better life ❤️
Sad God bless you and also the unseen for their great job.
Thank you
You’re such a lovely man I wish you all the very best . I’d happily sit and talk to you. x
Apsolutely heartbreaking, this guys story is so sad, I hope and pray that he finds happiness,
He looks like a respectable gentleman, and yes he's good looking too.
Sad to see such a gentleman ended up homeless.
And so surprised to hear that his son didn't do anything to help him.
Very sad I don’t know how his son can leave his own blood on the street especially as he’s fully aware.
And yeah he’s very handsome and a THICC boi.

If he's in China, he would have been given a place to live in and got back on his feet pretty quickly.
Probably he could even get a wife and forget all the bad memories with his second wife.
@@lionelwong5842 Really in China? I didn’t expect that.

There's poverty alleviation program in China to help lift people out of extreme poverty. Homeless people should be first on the list to receive helps from the government.
In fact his son also could be sued in court and punishable by law for not taking care of his father.
If he's living in China, he would be well taken care of by his relatives and the government.
Lovely person!! God bless him!! Thank you for helping him. Hope he's doing better now!
Good looking smart Man like you any women in there right mind would pick you up! Good luck and God Bless!

Yep. Since the beginning of time. As God created Eve to be Adam's companion.
I guess that 30 quid gift card works out the same as 2 nights in a hostel. You could give them the choice from now on, when you can afford to of course. Great work guys. God will bless you massively I know it. 💜

"None of us can change the world to alone , but collectively we can make a difference or alleviate someone's suffering for a wee while, it's worth it for me"

This guys is such a lovely man, he doesn't deserve this at all, it's so sad to see this, his story is just a reminder that this can happen to anyone,
God will take care of this gentlemen!🤗😇
This taught me to be grateful for what I have and work harder to ensure I have that safety net and have other things that generate me money so I am not in this position. Also, to not get married so my finances don’t get impacted like in a divorce.
I hope this man is okay. Life has a weird way of turning out. Patience, determination and consistent action goes a long way. I wish him well.
I really hope he’s doing alright now
