  • Community curator Catherine Clement will explore how stories of migration have been rediscovered and brought back to life through objects found, yet forgotten, in our homes. Through her decade-long, ground-breaking work collecting the hidden photographs of Vancouver Chinatown’s first and most prolific photographer, Yucho Chow - to her current project locating surviving C.I. documents used to monitor, control and intimidate early Chinese in Canada - Catherine will show how each piece helps reveal a rich story.
The event will feature remarks from The Honourable Dr. Vivienne Poy and will be MC’ed by CBC’s Gloria Macarenko.

I throughly enjoyed this talk today. I am on a quest to learn more about my immigrant parents and their contributions to our collective Asian Canadian history. Thank you Dr. Vivienne Poy for your dedication. Thank you Catherine Clement for your advice about using old photographs to prompt more insight. I am sure this will help my Dad remember so much more. Dr. Henry Yu interviewed my husband for his stories about Asian Canadian Farmers. I am fascinated and overwhelmed by all the amazing information that is readily available for me to access as I do my research. Looking forward to being a part of this wonderful community of storytellers, researchers, historians. Thank you All!
