I am a vegetarian by birth. The fact that plants feel pain troubled me for over a decade. I felt very bad that the whole idea of being vegiteration was misplaced.
But very recently I read a sentence from some evolutionary biology paper which quotes..
The pain felt by any organism is proportional to its ability to react..
So I just hope that plants feel pain much lesser than animals.. Infact close to zero pain.I can't be sure, but I hope they do.

Likewise there are so many vegetables that will drop on the floor by itself if u don't pluck it by urself. I can agree with Sadhguru for the fact that Eating food just for taste is wrong. This is true, but it is misleading. Plants do respond in certain ways when being eaten/damaged, but it doesn't mean they feel. They can't feel because they don't have central nervous system. Just like your smartphone responds when you touch its screen, but it does not "feel"
Plants are not sentient, they have no (self)awareness, so talking about cruelty towards plants is ridiculous. Them producing and releasing antinutrients in certain conditions is simply an evolutionary factor that ensures (to a certain degree) their survival as species, it has absolutely nothing to do with them "not wanting to be hurt". Again, they have no central nervous system, no sentience and no self awareness. This is one of the rare cases I disagree with Sadhguru.
