Tip: buy a pack of CR023 button batteries and throw em in the glove box. Those are the replacement batteries for our Escapes key fobs.

2017 ford escape. tried to program a spare key but the vehicle won't go into programming mode. can you reset the car computer to restore original defaults - then perhaps it will?

But what is the long term fix for this problem??
This is happening wiht my 2014 ford escape but i have a reguler key, and i cant get to to detect a key. Now what?
When my 2013 Escape gives that message I just hit either the door lock or unlock button on the fob and it fixes it. It's as if you're getting the car to recognize the fob again.
What about a ford edge, my ford edge isn't detecting the key, and also the start button isn't coming on

Yes, it should work on the Focus. My car's battery completely died and when I jump-started it, both of the keys stopped working. I'm currently unlocking/locking my car with the physical key that comes inside the remote key. It still stays Key undetected. Not sure what the long-term fix is.?
This seriously is so helpful- but do you know how to solve this issue so I don’t have to do that every time? I’ve started my car this way now three times today and while it’s fine, I never had to before.

Just checking if someone had a fix on this , i have the same problem now.
On my 2017 I can lay it in the coin tray if the fob battery is dead. Replaced the battery when it died and now all the remote buttons don't work.

I have a 2014 escape titanium and this is the second time it has happened to me. I used the key to get the car started but when I went to drive the car it wouldn’t drive because it said the key was not detected even though the engine was running. What can I do?
You have a bad key, you need a new key. Check Facebook for private locksmiths in your area

As I found out sometimes no tricks will work..battery was pooched. No warning no nothing. Just dead one day of course right as I was moving houses! Argh! $350 later at the mechanics for a new battery installation. For some reason I thought for sure starter or alternator…

Key fob shorted, I had to get a new one. Actually I got a refurbished one for $80 😬
I have a 2019 Escape with 12,000 mi & this problem started back @ 10K. Seems a little ridiculous for a car that is relatively new. Hoping the dealer will help me out, because it’s gradually getting worse/more frequent
having same issue with 2018 Escape Titanium. I am furious. For what I paid for this P.O.S. Latest issue, no power what so ever in the cabin. SO even this trick won't help! Have had battery changed twice!

You said you changed the battery and it's still not working. I did the same thing. Changed the battery and it doesn't work now. Did you ever figure out why it wouldn't work after you changed the battery?
Yes, I ended up getting a refurbish one at a shop for $80 mine was burnt. I guess when I messed with it I broke it....
