Thank you all so much for your support!
I just wanted remind you guys that I'm not done making videos about being a rookie trucker, I just can't record while driving anymore.
Also, regardless of the situation, I still believe Schneider is a great company to get your experience with. Please don't let this situation jeopardize your decision to join Schneider, as I believe they have great resources for you new drivers to learn the industry. There are also many million mile drivers that have been with the company for years, and have been nothing short of happy.
Thank you all again, I appreciate you all!
And just remember, you can't enjoy the good days without first going through the bad ones 🤘🏼

Dude, it has less to do with him filming, than it has to do with his content. He did a lot of bone head things that would've gotten a veteran driver fired... he happened to film it all, then post it online.
The company using the filming or distraction policy was just the easiest and quickest way to get him out. If he fights this legally (i.e. in court, and not on social media), he will be destroyed.
This is less to do with his channel, and more to do with his incompetence.

While your figuring things out just be sure you don’t lump yourself and what you have done in with Bobby Reach. He is a great CZcamsr and knows how to create interesting content that gets people fired up but he also put that first and foremost in front of Trucking. Let’s keep it real! His channel wasn’t about teaching newbies anything. His channel was designed to get views and creat controversy! By doing so his channel exploded. Now how he follows this short lived fame up will be interesting.
I am betting Schneider would love for you to keep posting your videos especially after letting Bobby Reach go. After he damaged the companies reputation they need to repair the damage done and videos such as yours which are honest and helpful truly helps new drivers.
I would go talk to someone at Schneider before getting rid of the channel. Keeping the channel is not disrespecting Bobby Reach.

Companies can fire you for almost any reason. I know, it's happened to me. A truckstop was over filled with trucks, I found a Walmart store and parked by three other trucks. Next morning, dispatch told me that the trucks cameras caught me at Walmart. Turns out company had a no walmart policy. I lost my job. Got a rental car and drove home. Next job laughed when I told them what I had been fired for. They hired me on the spot. Still happy today.

When you’re parked you add your voice and what was going on the video..in your sleeper or outside your truck..I think the issue is the commentary while “driving”…keep your chin up..as someone old enough to be your pop..and part of the “great resignation “ last spring..I’m about to leave orientation next week and get on the inter modal road..no good lesson is ever earned the easy way..keep charging and be NOT afraid..life’s a journey and not..NOT a destination 😎🚛🇺🇸

Their game their rules, unfortunately, even if it's not fair. Schneider has always been very particular. Lawyers in court can twist things and Schneider is self-insured. I watched Bobby's video. One thing about trucking, it's highly regulated now. As a commercial driver since mid-80s, make sure anyone reading this and working for any company, protect your CDL *and* consider legal plans (type in google "CDL legal plan") protecting your driving record in the event you were treated unfairly by DOT or other infractions. Trucking is a whole different world and a lot falls on the drivers

You should always put yourself, your safety, your family & job first. You can still have a trucking vlog & just film during your downtime. Honestly, the stuff I enjoy most are things like OTR meal-prep, what you pack, how you decorate/fix up your bunk, trip-planning, what it’s like showering in truck stops, you showing us what all your pre-trip involves, etc. Anyway, I look forward to your next video and I wish you all the best!

@@TikiTheTrucker I drove for Schneider for years and I can tell you that they have an official policy, but unofficially will often look the other way on things. This is probably like most major companies.
They don't want you to even be on a hands free Bluetooth headset talking on the phone, because officially if you're in an accident while doing so then someone could sue them if they're allowing their drivers to do that, because in court it could be construed as "distracted driving".
So that's their official policy. But unofficially they know that every single person who drives for them will sometimes talk on the phone while driving, or eat while driving, or talk on their CB, or play with the radio or any number of other things that they officially deem "distracted driving".
Some DBLs will call you out if you call them while driving and some won't, but it's just because it's company policy to do so. It's all about protecting their ass and their insurance bond. But unofficially they understand the realities of life on the road. Many DBLs were once drivers themselves.
Where it puts your DBL or the company in a tough spot is if you put it out there for the world to see online or even if you confirm to them that you did something that's against company policy. If you do that then you put them in the position of either co-signing what you're doing or reprimanding you for doing it, and it'll always be the latter option.
I really love your videos and hope you keep doing them, but just be aware that in addition to making entertaining content you're also providing a concrete record which can be used against you. As a professional driver you need to always be aware of how dangerous what you're doing is even under the best conditions. You could be involved in a serious or even fatal accident any day, even if it's 100% not your fault. If that ever happens, you better believe lawyers and investigators are going to pull your life apart to try to go after Schneider's deep pockets. So just be aware of that and keep that in mind for everything you're putting out there.

  • @codegame027
    @codegame027 Před 2 lety +30

keep in mind a fixed mount facing through the windshield would be acceptable. You could do voiceover in post production. So you aren't "vlogging" while driving" in this equation. In content production that is called "b-roll" with an added voiceover. Also, you could still do "story telling" style vlogs. I think there is room to make content within those rules. Just think outside the box.

I agree with this idea, also it's good to mention in the video that the audio commentary is added post production, and not live, because there is some viewers who would call the company and complain that " the driver is talking to viewers while driving, blah blah " 😉

He can't really argue about that. I think this is a learning moment for everyone that wants to create or already has a CZcams channel. Golden rule: Don’t publish a video showing you making major mistakes and driving in a distracted manner. That is what Bobby Reach did. One video he mentioned he was wearing ear buds and listening to music during orientation and didn’t hear his name called out right away. I would have fired him for “distracted orientation and unprofessional behavior.” Common sense tells you orientation is part of the job interview. If I was on Bluetooth while driving most peeps knew if I just stopped talking mid sentence on them meant that something happened that I needed to address on the driving end. Most the times was nothing, I didn't let peeps box me in and not give me options if something did happen, even if I had to slow down for a second to let them pass, what's a few minutes compared to a life. I’m going to add my 2 cents in which is worth nothing but have to say it. Your content and Bobby content was completely different. Your videos were honest but respectful of the company you work for and you appear to have taken learning this industry seriously and have been able to vlog and drive exceptionally well.
I’m not sure if Bobby was as much of a disaster as he showed himself to be in the videos but while it made exceptional content watching the disaster, almost like watching a train wreck in slow motion, it did not make him or Schneider look good. The primary thing it did was make Schneider drivers look clueless and at times dangerous.
So while I can respect you changing the way you do things I do not believe that anything you have done has damaged either yourself or the company you work for. It has done quite the opposite it has put both of you in a very positive life.
Bobby has some growing up to do. His keeping it real in reality is a mixed up mind set. There were very few that followed him that were surprised at his firing. Many of us can’t believe they allowed him in a truck if he is the way he comes off. It very could be his creative side that made him look bad in order to get followers I am not sure,. I’m sure he is a nice guy and extremely talented. And if he would of approached his videos differently I doubt we would be having this conversation.

I do not work for Schneider, and I DO NOT know their actual policies, but from what I have heard, and PLEASE correct me if this is incorrect, but I have heard that drivers are not even allowed to have a blue tooth device in the truck, AT ALL. Immediate termination if you are caught with one in your truck, Even if it belongs to an authorized passenger in the truck, STILL immediate dismissal.
I have heard from many people, other truckers that I know or have met, and on CZcams, that Schneider is a MAJOR micromanager over their drivers, and often goes overboard with their safety platform. It has been said that you can never be too safe, but the truth is... YES, YOU CAN.
I am NOT passing judgement on Schneider as a company, because I am NOT qualified to do so, having never worked for them. I am ONLY asking if what I heard is correct , AND warning all current and potential drivers of ANY company to be ware of ANY policies that may potentially effect you doing your job safely and effectively
Unfortunately, WAY too many companies don't realize that there is a HUGE difference between policy and culture, and that BOTH will fail if there is even a minor conflict between the two, regardless of fault. Safety department may tell drivers to do one thing, and then dispatchers tell them to do another, and the driver is held responsible regardless of what they do...
Generally speaking, here are four universal rules of following ANY policy of ANY company, even if YOU happen to own that company yourself:
    1. Always Trust nobody.
    2. Always get it in writing BEFORE you do it.
    3. Always CYA (Cover Your A$$) any/every way you can.
    4. Always Make sure any evidence you present to protect yourself can NOT also work against you.

@@TikiTheTrucker First time on your channel, so I’m not acquainted with you but came here because of the issue (Bobby) that this relates to.
There’s another successful independent owner operator that has a CZcams channel with 10,000+ subscribers, and the majority of his videos are shot with him just talking behind the steering wheel while he’s parked. Clutch Trucker also mentioned your Schneider guy who seems (to me based on his last video) much more concerned about his videos than his driving thus being fired.

  • @ridewithmerideshare_lv2039

Thanks man... smart guy.... I bet though that the recording thing was just their grey area to let him go... but the Rock thing and his comments on the company are the real reason for his termination. I guarantee if you were the owner of schnieders, you too would let him go....in fact... I guarantee that Bobby would also fire someone doing the same... Safety First... Own it... Learn it... Live it..
P.s. I would have more respect for him now, If he made a video telling the truth and teaching others through his mistake, instead of playing victim... that would be a viral video, he could profit from..and would show he really does care and is not just out to become famous overnight. ALSO I'm sure if you get a hold of your managers, and tell them that you are promoting their company positively and constructive..they would let you keep recording... ex Riding with Dave... educational, yet politically correct

Commercial truck drivers can not touch an electronic device while driving - that is the DOT rule. If you have a GoPro attached to your body you are touching an electronic device even if your hand doesn’t touch it. Unless company policy states otherwise you can used a fixed mounted camera (dash cam, or whatever) - just don’t touch it while driving. Keep it running on a loop - it will pickup audio.

The fact of the matter here is that Schneider just did what they have to do. I mean, they have to run the business, right?
