I quick look at the venerable 1187 this week. If you enjoy the channel, please consider becoming a Patron / gunshorts Thanks to Bywell Shooting Ground for the kind support. / gunshorts / lloydyp
I picked one up off of gunbroker, according to the guy who I got it from he bought it new and over 15 years had less than a box of shells through it. He's like so its pretty much new. He wasn't lying hardly anything wrong with it and the one I got goes to a 3.5 in shell. I have had success with it out pheasant hunting and shot some of my best trap scores ever with it, my highest being 44/50 from the 16 and 23 yard line. love this gun and the wood hardware
Love the smile you had during the review I had the same feeling when I shoot my Remington 1100 fussy on the shells but there it is I did get a kickezz plastic spacer and used a dremel tool and corrected the length of pull for me took me a whole hour a little black coloration that I used for car restore on the spacer edges blended in beautiful Thank again
My first auto bought in 1988. I liked the remmi to shoot as it was so smooth but struggled with cycling the early 1oz loads and I eventually moved it on for a Beretta 303 as designed by Brian Hebditch. But I've some great memories with the 1187 including a first duck and a couple of little trophies at clay shoots. Re the weight of the barrels, they did make a lighter one which a mate of mine bought called the lcb (light contour barrel) and it livened up the handling a fair bit. Thanks for the gun shorts Lloyd👍🌈
Thanks for that video, I saw it on Instagram and was waiting eagerly. I remember having a go at clay pigeons with one of these when I was 16, my first real go at shooting. I love semi autos, 99% of my shooting is with my Benellis, wouldn’t mind one of these in my cabinet though. 😎
The 11/87 was my first semi auto shotgun. I was trained with the 870 and carried that as police for decades. I love this shotgun. It is very easy to use.
Really nice video Lloyd. There is something quite satisfying in getting an older object no matter what it is and giving it some care, perhaps restoring it then making the odd tweak to make an improvement. I've always thought about getting an old Beretta Ultralight in well used condition and taking some time to restore it then using it on walked up days. One day... Keep up the good work, its much appreciated by us all.
A damn nice gun lOYD, Remington 100 series and the Winchester 1400 series, great guns from the past, and still hold their own in todays market. they were extremely popular here in Qld Australia when they first hit the market. well done.
I'm in the US. I have a 20 gauge 1187 Sportsman field that I purchased new. Basically the same as the Premier other than 26" barrel, Satin walnut stocks and matt black finish on the metal. A great field gun that's taken lots of Dove, rabbit and quail. The gun was "tight" when new and had a few issues with certain brand shells sticking in the chamber, however cleaning it after each use and shooting the heck out of it, resolved itself on it's own. Without doubt my favorite shotgun!
After watching your video, searched high and low, found a nice 93 premiere skeet ,so pleased with it. Normally use a benelli m2 for clay busting. The remington shoots great ,replaced the o ring as it was bit past its life . Thanks for posting up the review.
I’m in the US, I also have the same gun from most likely the same time frame. That said, I would never give it up, it’s reliable, robust nature handled everything I put it through in the fields hunting deer, pheasant and ducks.
Bought one in 88, was my favorite Quail gun. Ended up selling it and bought the Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag when it came out, for Turkeys. Wish I would of kept it.
Yep, towards the end the 11-87 morphed into the semi-auto counterpart to the utilitarian 870 Special Purpose and Express. The belle of the ball mantel shifted back to the 1100 as it persisted in the clay shooting roles, probably because its simpler gas system was satisfactory for target rounds. Lloyd, you ought to get a spacer and new pad fitted, so you can take the old girl out for a date once in a while. ;-) A nice thick Cervellati Microcell plus spacer might not even weigh more than the current pad.
Thanks for the video Lloyd. The 1187 and earlier 1100 share roughly 90% of their parts. I had an 1187 Special Purpose as my first clays gun. I bought it used as it was the only variant I could afford at the time. The SP was Remington's waterfowl version of the gun and as a result it had a matted finish and a heavier barrel. The gun served me well for several seasons until I moved to a decent O/U and it eventually went down the road after digesting well over 30,000 rounds. The tolerances of that shotgun must've been right in the middle of the range because in all the time I owned it I can count on both hands the number of malfunctions. It also digested everything from 24gm International loads up to 3 inch steel waterfowl loads in all weather. One of the strengths of the 870, 1100, 1187 guns is that because they've all been around for so many years parts are everywhere for them. Stock too low? No problem there's Sporting, Trap and even Adjustable stocks available. Also at least on this side of the pond it's easy to find people that can work on them if ever needed. Thanks again for featuring one of my favorite shotguns!
Just picked up a left hand model 1187 premier in good nick as you all say from the other side of the pond! 28 inch lc barrel , adj comb and stock. First sporting shotgun . Thoroughly excited to take it out for its first bit of clays!
That was my first shotgun (also a Premier), which I bought second hand back in 1999. I still have it. Feeds everything from 1oz and up. Mine sits in the safe as well. I don't have a reason to keep it, but also can't find one to sell it😀
Just got a new production Rem 1100 Sporting 12. They’re beautiful shotguns for what they are. I really prefer the all steel receiver as compared to the typical alloy in newer designs. I’m old fashioned I guess. Great Video Sir 🍻
I have a tournament grade a Remington 1187. The gun is very reliable and patterns better than my O/U. I do have a custom stock made by a company that’s no longer in business (Fajen). I still have that gun. I would post a picture if I knew how.
Nice video!! You must have a top notch camera as the video quality was professional level. I also own a Remington 11-87 manufactured in the late 1980s. Love shooting it and it’s great for either upland bird hunts or waterfowl.
Hello Lloyd......I am a new subscriber and I am enjoying your videos and shooting tips. I had an 11-87 back when they first came out and at that time it was a very popular gun for skeet and clays and hunting/field shooting. I have fond memories of the 11-87 and with proper care it was excellent. I replaced it with a good Over and Under for clays and a Benelli for rough shooting.
just bought my first shotgun...got the Remington 1187...its very pretty but does not have any wood on it...looking to have some great fun as i begin my new hobby..!!!
The first gun I ever shot was a Remington 1100 and I was happy when they started making them again in 2005 so I bought the G3 model. Like you I don't shoot it much but I could never sell it.
The guys from Shrewd were my first sponsor, and I picked that hat up while I was visiting with them in VA. Sam and Damon are great folks with a great company. Proud to still wear the hat after all these years.
I have two. Both synthetic. First was my clays workhorse for several years very seldom an issue. Only replaced the oring, a little sheetmetal thing that I can't recall the name of, the recoil spring, and just a few weeks ago the extractor/detent/spring. I'm the second owner and I'm sure it got some use before I bought it. It's now my turkey gun.
Just FYI I have been shooting Trap with a 11-87 since It was new in 1989 and it has had untold rounds through it and it has had Zero Parts Breakage. I clean it every time I shoot it and replace action spring when it is shorter than 14 1/2 inches. I have Won Trap league with it for a Singles score of 248x250. All I have for Trap Skeet and Hunting is Remington Auto’s for 45 years. I am thinking about getting a Beretta 694 Sporting for Trap Doubles as two chokes is a advantage.
I bought the trap version In 1987 direct from America, and sent to a Gunsmith’s here. I shot one in the states when I went over to shoot in the Grand American in 87 and quite liked them. Not a bad shotgun actually.👍
Hi Lloyd, thanks for the review on the 'love of your life' (well maybe just one of them anyway?). I wasn't familiar with this gun and it looks nice, especially for the price it stands you at. In terms of a semi, I have a Benelli Supersport which I'm well chuffed with - might I add, based on your recommendation after your review of this gun 😎😎 Stay safe matey 👍
Great guns. They do have that short length of pull and lots of drop in the stock. Just add some spacers and thicker recoil pad and you have a nice clay gun. I also have the 1100 classic trap with 30” light contour barrel. It has the high comb and longer length off pull. That’s a really nice clay gun. Almost no recoil.
I still have my grandads 1100 left hander 28 inch sporter barrel and 31inch trap barrel he loved it been a lefty. i couldnt shoot it for toffee . Just cant part with it the last gun he had before he fell off the perch in 1998 . Still cycles well my son used it a couple of times then got big enough to use my summit. Daughter has a bit longer to go thankfully . A
Old Remington autos have a certain je ne se quoi . I had an early 70's 1100 trap with a Monte Carlo stock and 30 inch full choke barrel , it had a fantastic walnut stock. Was my main gun for sporting years ago but not quite reliable enough so I sold it for the £250 I paid for it . I might get another just for fun.
Another great video Lloyd thanks and glad you are better. Can i just ask what are your thoughts on the yildiz pro? Currently a browning gp shooter and was thinking about one of those or the 525sl after lockdown. Enjoy your videos man.
I am trying to get hold of a test gun Moose. I think that the Yildiz pro will make a splash in the sub 2k market for sure but I would love to give one a proper test.
Lloyd I think its a very nice gun. A quality hard to find today for the price. Comparing what guns cost today I think it had an awful lot of value. I wonder about Beretta, Caesar Guerini, Browning and what they charge for quality.
I have the opportunity to purchase a 12 bore Remington 11-87 Sporting Clays model. This would be in three shot capacity. Do you know if the mag can be extended to take more rounds and then add it to my S1 certificate. Thanks.
The extra weight with the majority of 1187 barrels is due to the changes in the gas system on the barrel as well as some extra material at the muzzle end to fit the Remchoke system. There are some 1187 barrels that are physically heavier than the typical 1100 barrel. The SP series that was designed for waterfowl have a thicker full profile contour, the slug barrels, and the Police Magnum model barrels are all heavier than a typical 1100 barrel. Barrels on the competition guns typically have the light contour as well as a lighter barrel hanger to be similar to the 1100 shotguns. The lighter barrel hanger doesn't have the self compensating gas system so those are limited to 23/4 shells. Hope this helps.
They have a light contour model. The barrel is slightly thinner in the middle. Does not affect quality ,just makes the gun a few ounces lighter for trap shooting.Takes a light contour forend.
I know someone who shot so much trap that in 40 years they wore out three of these guns to the point of not being able to be rebuilt. The receivers literally wore through!
The one to get is the 1100 G3... which is a deluxe version of the 1187. Not at all an 1100. The 12ga is superior to the 1100 or 1187 and hard to find. But worth the effort
@@lloydyp Just looked it up. He's the first shooter to record 100 straight for a registered shoot. English sporting. Apparently a big influence on George digweed.
Opinion, I have a 77 model 1100 12 gauge magnum. 30" barrel, fixed full choke. Was carried a lot but not shot a lot deer hunting. I no longer hunt but shoot Clay's. The price of barrels is ridiculous. I could reasonably priced have my barrel threaded for choke tubes. As well as modified to cycle light shells. I don't want to destroy the value of the gun and it does have sentimental value to me. Belonged to my father in law who hunted with it for thirty years. But its unusable to me the way it is. Interested in people's thoughts.
Rather than get it multi choked, why not get it bored out to M or LM and just use it as is. LM is a great all rounder choke you can shoot anything with.
@@lloydyp never thought of that. My bigger concern is changing the gas port or more likely drilling another. Being a magnum reciever and barrel it absolutely will not cycle low brass shells. It's a one shot wonder, lol. First gun I ever used for Clay's was a friends 1187 premier like in the video. Like you he's retired it but will never let it go. Love the channel, especially videos with you and Johhny of tgs. Cheers from the USA.
I would get it bored and reamed to accept remchokes full modified skeet cylinder or whatever choke there are out there to be had for no need to limit the gun or yourself !!!
I need a short stock so my 1187 Premier suits me very well and I would not ever part with it. Recently changed to a Beretta 691 Vitoria also for the short montecarlo stock. It fits like Mum n Dad and I shoot better with it than the Remmy but will never part with it.
In 2000 i graduate from high school and my dad asked me to choose between this gun and a Rolex day just as a gift. What do you think was my choice? Yes it was the remington 11-87 THANKS FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT THAT GOOD OLD DAYS
The Winchester Super X1 is a completely different animal. I've owned both 1100's, 1187's and Super X1. As much as I like my Remington shotguns the Super is in a higher class in every way.
You said you can buy the 1187 Premier for 200 Quid? That converts to $261 USD - I'd like to know where anyone can buy a good used Remington 1187 Premier for $261. I think average used is around $800
I can't post links but if you google remington 1100 or 1187 in the UK as I just did, you will find examples starting at one hundred and fifty pounds sterling in the UK.
@@lloydyp Ok i misunderstood. I live in Texas USA. Guns are generally more expensive in the states. Now im wondering about import laws!! Lol. A man could make a pile of $$$ buying and selling at that price difference. I gave much more than $261 for my 1187 Premiere.
I love how all the European reviewers hate/laugh on the American made 1100/1187...Respect should be paid where Respect is due. The 1100 is the standard to which ALL Semi-Auto's have been measured from. Even early Browning A5 owners would say the 1100 is a superior design...and they don't jam.. They last forever if you take care of them. No rise in the barrels, soft shooting and sleek to hold. When steel shot came in, that was they're demise for Waterfowlers..
@@lloydyp why all the laughter then lol? or having to explain, while laughing, why it's a great firearm? I guess I was speaking my mind in general as there seams to be a fair amount "hating" on Remingtons. Wasn't directly directed at you. Other European Reviewers tend to voice they're disdain on 1100's or any north-american made shotgun
I had 7, 1100 and 6, 1187 shotguns and they all turned out badly, they are filthy shotguns I buy a new 1187 and in the first box the barrel fell off the barrel and the new one fell apart. the worst shotguns that I had now pure benellis, and browning over and under, and beretta greetings friend subscribe to my channel too

What ammunition it use is it a 16 gauge or a 12 gauge
It’s a 12
What does it say on the side ? under the BCG
"premiere"
I know someone who shot so much trap that in 40 years they wore out three of these guns to the point of not being able to be rebuilt. The receivers literally wore through!
That's a lot of trap.
@@lloydyp it certainly is! The one and only the man himself Jack Wallace! He is legendary in Ontario Canada.
The one to get is the 1100 G3... which is a deluxe version of the 1187. Not at all an 1100. The 12ga is superior to the 1100 or 1187 and hard to find. But worth the effort
I own 11-87 since 1990.
No problem at all
a real work horse
Agreed. This one is arount 30 years old.
What’s in the can Lloyd ?
Irn Bru.
Wasn't there a guy, Duncan Lawton I think, who was THE Sporting clay shooter of the day, 1970s etc. Who used the Remi. Guns?
I’ll take your word for it, I’m too young to remember the 70s 🤣
@@lloydyp Just looked it up. He's the first shooter to record 100 straight for a registered shoot. English sporting. Apparently a big influence on George digweed.
Thanks for pic
Welcome 😊
It's a one shot wonder,lol.
@@jeffreyelliott622 I gave in bought a used 30" modified trap barrel.
Similar vintage (75) in great shape.
I bought mine in 1990 for 499 on sale. 100$ off. I am astounded they sell for 12 to 1600$ now. 3x increase in value. That never happens to me. Lol.
Is It a good reliable gun?
Generally yes.
Bellissima
I need a short stock so my 1187 Premier suits me very well and I would not ever part with it. Recently changed to a Beretta 691 Vitoria also for the short montecarlo stock. It fits like Mum n Dad and I shoot better with it than the Remmy but will never part with it.
Nice.
I got same is your it's a nice gun
👍🏻
My uncle had one But had to hand it in back in 96
Why?
Aussie gun buyback scheme
In 2000 i graduate from high school and my dad asked me to choose between this gun and a Rolex day just as a gift.
What do you think was my choice?
Yes it was the remington 11-87
THANKS FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT THAT GOOD OLD DAYS
My pleasure my friend.
If you have any spare Rolex Submariners I'll do you a straight swap 😂🤣
@@lloydyp 😂😂😂😂
Reminds me of the Winchester Super X.
Cant say as I have seen one.
I think one part is missing over there. It should be on top of gas cylinder.
No parts missing on my gun.
@@lloydyp My 11-87 has a gas collar on the mag tube. Most of them do have one. Mine is from 1993.
1100 year came out 1963. Not 1967
Pesadas mas muito boas das mais vendidas nos estados unidos
gracias por ver el programa :)
"Call it"
Eh?
Por favor en español. So de puerto Rico gracias 🙂
Lo siento, no hablo español.
I picked one up new in 1997 shot the living piss out of it. Never skipped a beat
Thanks for watching sir.
Ok but you know I’m European and that this is a really positive review, right?
@@lloydyp why all the laughter then lol? or having to explain, while laughing, why it's a great firearm? I guess I was speaking my mind in general as there seams to be a fair amount "hating" on Remingtons. Wasn't directly directed at you. Other European Reviewers tend to voice they're disdain on 1100's or any north-american made shotgun
@@aradcliffe585 what the hell man? I’m laughing because this gun makes me happy, it was my dream gun when I was a kid.
@@lloydyp what part of my comment wasn't directed at you did you miss?? Lol. I was more or less making a statement

I didn't know you Brits even were allowed to have guns.
Indeed we are.
1100 and 1187 is a garbage ,basura ,the worst gun ,
Each to their own...
