    I really like the cross hatching style. It has a hand drawn look to it even tho it's done digitally. It looks more expressive & unique imo. I think people are burning out on illustration that looks too 3D CGI or AI generated (or maybe it's just me) These drawings are so charming & full of personality 💖

      The technology Amazon is using is amazing - I can't wait to talk about it in a future video. Amazon has print on demand printers on just about every continent so customers can avoid heavy shipping costs. It's a total game changer! Thank you - I hope you enjoy it!

    I prefer the fully rendered to the crosshatch look, but I do like both styles. I could even see them blending into one another for a book where you have spot illustrations in the more drawn style and surprise the viewer with a page turn full spread colored and rendered. It could be like Dorothy in Kansas landing in Oz.

    Really like your videos explaining process and coming about with your artwork.. I got your ‘what they don’t teach’ and I am struggling with creating art, I have myself a few different styles. I also teach art but k-12. I also do murals.. design floats for Rose Parade.. do electrical box painting… chalk art festivals (lots) and ceramics.. live painting at events.. everything I can to keep creative flowing but all I want it to write/illus a childrens book. Been w SCBWI for over 15 years. Thanks for doing the SV Learn I will look into that. And thanks again for doing these videos.

    Loving this video! It's great to see you recommend an author who matches style to a book because this is my approach as well. I feel that each visual approach carries different feeling with it and a style simply can't fit every story. There are stories that are enhanced with the right style and confusing with a mismatch visuals.
    Awesome to hear that currently in the business a rougher style is preferable - it's also my personal preference and I will be happy to freshen up my portfolio with something more natural to me.
    I wonder if you ever heard anything about how children of different ages respond to a highly polished verus rough style. It seemed to me that books with a rough, easy to emulate style might allow children to have an easier time when they draw while inspired by the book because they can recreate a crayon or pencil they see in a book. While the high rendered images are beautiful they will always be imposssible to recreate for children.
    But maybe that is just my adult brain thinking because I can see children drawing from a book without a care for quality of they drawings, haha. Would be awesome to hear from you and other parents/teachers about how children react to and interact with the style.
    Thanks for sharing so much of the process behind magic and business making!

      @@willterryart well, I’m just in California… BTW, I recommend your school to my high school students all the time. I’m one of the few teachers who don’t tell kids they need to go to college. Especially those who are aiming for a career in art. The other day I was trying to remember how many years I’ve been following you, so you’ll have to remind me when was it that you first made your videos about the iPad Pro. Because of your video I got myself my first pro, Apple should give you a commission since I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.

    Thanks for the video and your input on what is a "going style" for illustration. Do you think the fully rendered style is seen as anachronistic and "not current?"

    • @willterryart
      @willterryart  Před rokem +1

      I do...but I like to buck trends and so if I have a future project that I think would be best served by the more fully rendered style - I'll go for it.

    I like the fully rendered style more. These Pickleball illustrations for your book, look unfinished.
