I agree with you on Spyderco they have been my favorite for a long time but I have to admit I recently purchased a couple of Benchmades and I’m very impressed with them
I was wondering when, or if Spyderco would show up. 😁 I never handled, or liked Spyderco knives, simply because of the appearance. I didn't like the hole in the blade, or the hump made to accommodate that. This year, I bought my first one, a Spyderco Delica in Zdp-189. I love the feel of it, and the hole in the blade is a perfect way to open it. They are a great company & have something for every price range.
I would rank Zero Tolerance as the top brand choice of the ones you mentioned. I have the 0450 and the 0562, and the quality for the money is amazing. They are easy to disassemble and maintain.
On your bit about ZT I just can't really say any knife should ever fail under ordinary circumstances though the way a knife works a slip joint is sufficient to not cut yourself outside of you fucking up. Hmmm Top 10 brands. I'm newer to knives and also lean towards being cheap so my view is definitely different. For new collectors or the more budget minded I really can't recommend ZT, Benchmade, or Spyderco. Although in fairness Spyderco does have some good options ie. the Byrd Raven 2 and Para 3 LW that might manage to get a recommendation from me. Civivi brings the low to mid range game. Kershaw has some quality hits and you can find some of them on deep deep discounts. Cold Steel has some quality knives at good budget ranges. I'd put Tangram over Kizer in terms of just the price to quality offered compared to the vanguard knives I've played with. I've really liked the Real Steel Knives I've had. Have a Bestech Hornet that I love but can't say if the company as a whole is excellent. Ontario just has extremely solid knives at good prices across the board. Ruike has excellent knives at excellent prices. 10 - Spyderco - Some good options but overall too highly priced to blanket recommend at the budget end. Also if suggesting a knife to an established collector or someone who wants a one and done knife I might consider them but they're kinda ugly. 9 - Bestech - Good knives from what I've seen but I haven't seen much of them. 8) Real Steel - Good range of knives 7) Ontario - Just solid quality knives both in fixed blade and folding and for a fair price. 6) Mora Knives - Honestly if a person doesn't have a Mora they should get one. (If this is cheating because fixed blades don't count replace it with Steel Will) 5) Kershaw - Some slam dunks some real misses reasonable prices though. 4) Tangram - Overall high quality knives at a great price. 3) Civivi - Some of the best knives in terms of action you'll find on the budget end and same on the High end with WE 2) Ruike - I just find these knives to be really attractive overall and priced well for a good product. 1) Cold Steel - Pretty much a safe bet to always get a good tool knife, some of the xl models are comically large but they're still well built and safe and effective. Also a plus they're priced pretty well and have a wide range of price points they hit.
I appreciate the fact that you make it clear that this is your opinion, that's great. Due to the fact that you are considering price when making your list, how about a top 10 budget list to complement this video? That would be cool and I promise not to comment on any commenters spelling errors... Big mistake to do that! Thanks for the vids.
definitely driven by disposable income. That being said my top brands are first place either Reate or WE (toss up between these two, I love 'em both) Real Steel, I favore the S class though many of their budget line are also very good. Zero Tolerance next are TuyaKnife, Steel Will and Maxace I also love Ruike and Civivi for their budget lines I only go for ti framelock flippers for my EDC so many companies are out as they don't produce a decent variant of that paradigm.
Consider making a video of top 10 NON USA brands. Im in Europe , we pay 50%-60% more for USA products here and it would be good for someone like me who doesn’t know much about knives to get a clue where to direct his wallet. I’ve been using Victorinox products for 35 years (I’m a user/beater) and i could use someone’s info that has expanded experience on different brands
This video is amazing. I'm taking my dad with me to Bladeshow and I've been trying to educate him on knives and the brands and whatnot, sending this to him so he can get a good idea of what is out there. I will play as well, budget not necessarily in mind: 1. Spyderco 2. Koenig 3. ZT 4. We Knives 5. CRK 6. Reate 7. Benchmade 8. Kizer 9. Protech 10. Three Rivers Manufacturing
Rick Hinderer and Chris Reeve are one of my 2 favorite knife companies. But they are expensive as hell. But Spyderco is hands down my over favorite company it's a American company. Spyderco, We Knives, Benchmade, Zero Tolerance. Those the only brands I really like.
Just got a Benchmade Anthem and the grind angles are way off :( My Doug Ritter from Knifeworks came yesterday great knife! My favorite Spyderco is the spydichef
Great video. Hard to put 1-10 but here goes 1. Zero Tolerance 2. Spyderco 3. Ferrum Forge (massdrop or Drop or whatever) 4. Benchmade 5. WE knife 6. Bestech 7. CIVIVI 8. CH Knives (Eafengrow) 9. Protech 10. Hogue (Love what they have just wish they had more models)
Automatic´s are illegal in Denmark, where I live, so I only collect manual flippers. Spydercos all look alike, in my opinion, so none of them on my list. Massdrop wont ship knives to Denmark, so none of them on my list either. American made knives are totally overpriced in Europe. I only bought the Cold Steel AD10, had to have it, and paid 270$ for it! 1 : Reate (including all the awesome collabs) 2 : We knives (including the collabs and Civivis) 3 : Kizer knives (including Vanguard and Tangram) 4 : Real Steel 5 : Lion Steel 6 : Cold Steel 7 : Kevin John 8 : CH knives 9 : Green Thorn 10 : Bestech
I like the AD-10, even if it is not American made, but i do not think it is worth the price i paid for it. I like lots of American made knives but fx a Zero Tolerance 470 cost 363$ and a Benchmade Crooked River cost 328$ :(
1. ZT 2. Spyderco 3. Benchmade I love ZT's premium materials at affordable prices... the beautiful carbon fiber on the 0452 and 0462, the machining on the 0609's scales and the see through pivot, that clanky sound when opening or closing the 0920, the action and the compact size on the 0450... I love my Spyderco and Benchmade knives too, but I feel like sometimes the prices on their medium/high end knives is way too high
I've had a lot more problems with Spyderco knives than I ever had with Benchmade knives . I think a lot of people just like repeating what they hear. Spyderco used to be one of my favorites , but I got sick of paying an extra $30 for a decent pocket clip. So if I want a Para 2 with S30V , it ends up costing me $170.00 , I can buy a g10 , 20CV Griptilian for $178.00 , thats crazy , or I can just save some money and get a standard S30V Griptilian for $115.00. But , thats just me ....
Have pm2 custom. 2 manix 2. Meerkat . Endura.. Para3 .. Something about Spyderco i love. Already on the search for a military in titanium. Domino is on the radar too.ok 7 are...lol
I might never buy a CRK or a hinderer.. honestly I’ve been kind of sick of seeing those and strider all over ig. It just seems like people want to show off that they have one as a status more than actual a user. Maybe 1 day I’ll buy one
I’m a little surprised at your placement of benchmade. Is it really that far off from spyderco as a company? I definitely agree that WE is basically Barry Bonds on extra steroids.
@@metal_complex Anthem is an awesome knife I feel Benchmade shoulda been no1 and Spyderco no10 but thats just due to a personal bad experience with Spyderco customer service/warranty.
I'd have to kick Cold Steel off the list, they just lack the fit, finish and features of the other brands you selected. In place of Cold Steel I'd have to put Kizer. I've added 6 or 7 in the last 6 months and every one has been a winner. I'd also have to give an honorable mention to Bestech.
nice list :) I would have a slightly different order of top ten and One or two different brands. As for Benchmade Zero Tolerance Hogue They would be closer to the top of the list All my BM & ZT’s have come nearly perfect and after tearing down cleaning oiling thread locking to my tight tolerances perfect my hogue ‘s cone just perfect mirror edges pretty darn flawless on the other hand Spyderco knives are ok just find materials vs price canadian over priced mind you my chaparral is my favourite and believe it or not love my grasshopper’s the pm2 in s110v is ok after tear down ect it’s dead centre ect but not my cup of tea, kizer surprised me for being crazy good quality and I only bought the kesmec at a great price $64.95 canadian no taxes delivery included in vg-10 not my fav steel but amazing fit finish, cold steel also great would be higher on list, reate have been on my list just waiting for a better price for what I want canadian. Microtech definitely a winner, WE agreed great quality. then there is as you initially stated higher priced knives Hinderer CRK ect that once you get in that price range you get used to the cost and it doesn’t seem to be that expensive.
"Purchasing anything outside of the United States hurts our economy..." Yikes brother. Love your channel but this statement is factually untrue the way you stated it. Loved the vid though. Keep up the awesome content I'm digging my subscription!!!
You're right, the way I put that isn't true. I suppose what I meant was, "when I have the option to purchase a USA manufactured item, I prefer to go that route." I should have clarified.

Imo, yes. It's their pricing that holds them back, but they're still one of the best around!
Cold Steel and Spyderco are the 2 giants among all of em. Just damn peak quality for folding knives. Everything else is sub par. Sorry not sorry.
Buck=#1
Its funny that you don't include Hinderer, or Chris Reeve due to over $400 price, than first knife you show is a $420 knife.
