I've only had time to watch the first ten mins or so, but just a quick comment. Marx's theory is materialist but also profoundly dialectical: it's not the vulgar economic determinism that various bourgeois intellectuals have presented it as. When a theory grips the masses, it becomes a material force, as Marx says. Ideas matter. The capitalist class rules not only through its economic but also ideological dominance ('the class which is the ruling material force of society, is at the same time its ruling intellectual force'). Correspondingly, the proletariat wins power once it becomes conscious of its objectives as a class. This is not a spontaneous or predestined process; it calls for a deliberate struggle by the proletariat against the bourgeoisie in the ideological and political realm.
But this seems like a thoughtful presentation. Looking forward to watching the rest of it.

Misunderstandings of the Marxist term "exploitation", it's not the colloquial term, Marx defined this very specifically.
Misunderstanding the difference between price and value. Loose use of the term value, something also very specifically defined by Marx.
Confusion concerning monopoly prices (Rolex example), and simple crafts/"simple commodity production". Response to the concept of surplus value with references to the subjective theory of value, something answered a thousand times over by Marxists, including Marx himself.
Misunderstanding the definition of Socialism ("government does stuff"). Misunderstanding Communism ("Marx wanted the state to own all the means of production under Communism"). There's a lot more.
This is an alright video but there's one too many mistakes that hurt any legitimate criticism.
Capitalism is an anti-Islamic system by all accounts, and Marx's analysis of Capitalism is the only viable, objective and accurate break down of the system. His analysis is a powerful tool for us as Muslims to firstly criticize Capitalism, and secondly develop an Islamically-inclined system of economy beyond the farce of "Islamic" banking and finance in i.e. Saudi Arabia and other countries following suit. Hijab loosely admits this in the end, too.
Tldr read Capital. You'll learn a lot.
The price fixing hadith annoys me because it isn't anti-Marxist. The hadith specifically mentions markets. If markets are eliminated (which is the intention of Marxists), and use-values are produced according to a wider economic plan (which is what Marx actually advocates for), then it isn't price-fixing by any definition. Furthermore, price-fixing happens all the time under Capitalism, so claiming that Islam is a "free market" system (especially as the Islamic world-system predates the concept of "free" markets), is equally erroneous. His discussion of taxation rates, equally, makes no sense on a Marxism episode as Marxism isn't based on taxation, but the reallocation of social surplus (not surplus value, again, the terms are very specific). Equally, no mention of dialectical materialism, the philosophical heart of Marxism that can definitely be criticized from several angles. I look forward to the next episode and hope that deeper answers can be delivered.
Hijab is really in over his head with this one and doesn't have a proper handle on the concepts or issues. I'm sure you mean the "mis-application" of the price fixing hadith and the not the hadith per se, that always irks me too. Agred 100% dialectical materialism is incompatible with the Islamic metaphysic.

I love to see fellow muslims engaging with marx. I have one point, with branding and marketing eccetera the point made in the video assumes that this kind of work isn't labor. But white collar work is still labor. Just my gut reaction.
Always thought Zakat is to be given to the poor so how can you spend such money on maintaining a state.

In reality branding is just another input cost, like the metal for the watch. Or the factory - its a cost borne by the owner. Its not really relevant to Marxist thought on surplus value. Because its not surplus.... Its also only relevant to a particular tranche of consumer goods.
I'm enjoying the general tone of this though. Listening to the horror of your students who have never thought about these things before is wild.
Branding has more to do with marketing and not with production processes which are the focus of marxism.
Pros of surplus value : equality and trickle down effect. Real e.g. cooperative; where every member treated equally and has to chip in equally.
Now the problem with this system is that naturally human society works in an asymetrical and hierarchical. Then when you're trying to bring Communism into bigger stage i.e nation state, it'll fail, why? Because people adhere to their own selfish group identity. This is evident in every nation that wealth & power concentrated to a particular 'elite group'. So the word commune in itself can only work in a tribal state, where there's not much differences between members, and people willing to cooperate as equal cohesion.

@@peaceful_warrior7627 It's just trying to either expand your brand, fulfilling the social ends or etc other reasons. Profits technically doesn't even exist anymore even if it is institutionally the case. Marx was right when he said that stagnation of profit would cause the end of the system. Which we did indeed witness in the Great Depression of 1929, Lenin was even right when he said "Imperialism was the highest stage of capitalism" after WW1 we got to see the end of Capitalism. Now companies don't even run because of profit. Just look up the profit rates since 1929, it's always fluctuating, stagnating or declining but it doesn't cause the condition that caused the Great Depression. So we are not even living under a system where profits are the ends. And production and development is higher than ever before.
Fame/notoriety/status, making the world a better place, helping people, being a better person (self improvement ), sense of purpose in life, etc@@peaceful_warrior7627
@@peaceful_warrior7627the bottom 99.9 percent owning no means of production have no profit yet they work and are motivated to varrying degrees. Explain why people don't work at all if profit is necessary? That's a good question to ask yourself and others saying we need capitalism.
