    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před rokem

      Yes The 12 inch- ish skip between the first and the second nail is to avoid a nail placement in the seam of the rows above. So basically 2 shingles will come together somewhere in that 12 inch space, and you don't want to put a nail there because it's high potential for an eventual leak. It's also a very hard one to find if it ever occurs lol

    Ive been shingling for years with more than one company and with guys that are incredibly fast. Guys that have been roofing for over 30 years doing peace work. Guys that CLEARLY move faster and more efficiently than this. And the most I've heard these guys do is 30 squares in a day. Only way I could believe this is if I witnessed you doing all 50 with my own eyes. You nail fairly slow, move slow, etc. Ya sure the roof is a peace workers dream but i still don't believe it for a second. The average experienced roofer can do around 10 maybe 12 squares in an 8 hour work day on a much more complex roof obviously. I know guys that start in the mornings with a head lamp and end at night with their head lamp and they did around 25 to 30 squares. Am I missing something? Is this just a click bait title?
    Also for all yall that are saying getting paid by the square aka peacework is the only way? You clearly know nothing about it. From what ive learned over the years, peace work is sloppy work. I would NEVER hire a company that pays its workers per square. That's when they start cutting corners, getting sloppy, low or high nails, wavy shingles, don't use caulk or mastic where they should, sloppy cuts, incorrect nail spacing, incorrect amount of nails per shingle, I could go on and on how peace work is garbage quality work. It's greed work.

      Much to learn young grasshopper. Every single shingle installed was filmed this day. 120 bundles with no help. I made sure to film it so I can submit it to guiness for world record. I've been working on the video for months it will be out soon! Subscribe to make sure you don't miss it. And The guy that I learned the most from looks very slow too. Most roofers don't know how to find a consistent work pace and rhythm and believe that speed comes from nailing or trying hard. Even in sprinting you're gonna hear announcers say that the most relaxed sprinter will win. Check out my tips for speed video i explain all that very well

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety +2

      And piece work and shingling on the square are totally different. I pay my own crew by the hour on tear off and dry in but there's not a soul alive that doesn't want shingle pay. On decent sized roofs good shinglers can put on 12 sq a day unless there's too many guys. These guys can earn 100 an hour on occasion because they get 20 or 30 a square on an easy walker

      @@NWIVeteranConstruction that translate for me around 3 days to be realistic, I am watching now the video how you do the valleys, studying trying to understand what goes on because with the insurance pay I am short 2k everytime I get a bid by contractors, that is because I have 1k deductible that I just do not have right now as I am off work on LOA. So that means that better shape up, learn from you and decide to attack it; I could fix the blown shingles for now but then the insurance money would be gone next time deciding to do the job and since it is tough to get 8k all together it would be postponed forever; at the very least if I could not do it now I would be buying the materials at today prices and have them there when deciding to get it done

    Im a carpenter but do side job shingles and ive pretty much have done it the exact same way as u have done, ive only done these architectural shingles three times now, my first was an 80 bundle the 35 and a 20 with just straight gables, only one had a small dormer with 2 12ft valleys in which i didnt do the greatest on but its right andooks good. Btw what do u mean when u say 20 or 30 or 50 squares

    • @jaybee1930

    50 sq. 150 bundles . 3 pallets of shingles. There is no way. All I do are roofs by myself. There is just no way.22 shingles per bundle..6 minute bundles. 10 an hour that's 80 bundles in a 8 hr day. 26 square in a day. 2600 sq. Ft. Still impressive. Especially for 1 man. All I do are 1 man roofs. 5000 square feet. No way. There is no way.

      I was shooting for 50 but ran out of sunlight. And it got really hot during the middle of the day so the shingles were sticking together hard. I could've got 50 if the weather was a little nicer and lunch didn't go so badly. But I only got 40 on 😔. 120 bundles. I Started just after 7 a.m and shingled til dark around 7. I filmed every single shingle to send to guiness for a world record and I'm currently editing the video now. There's barely over 8 hours of film. I was averaging around 12 minutes a square for the entire day. That's awesome you shingle alone too bud. Only way to go

      I agree Steve, I've been roofing over 30 years and there is just no way. I had a guy trying to tell me he could hand nail 30 square in a day and next breath was asking me for a job, also seen slammers who bragged about putting on 30 square in a day then whined about having to fix their blow offs the next time the wind blew. Same old BS!!

Every single shingle, because the idea was to send it in to guiness world record but I've decided against it for now. The only reason I haven't released the rest of the footage yet is because I'm working on a serious video titled "the art of efficiency" with that film as the backround. I'm making that video because guys don't seem to understand how easy it is to have record setting days like this. Just do the math man, I was live for like 2 hours this day, look at the time and count bundles. It's not that hard.
