Layout 'rules' assume one has a choice in their room. Smaller areas don't allow for much. I love your layout- so comfy and inviting! 😊

I have my sofa back at the entrance of our living room, facing our fireplace, with our piano behind it - like you'd have a sofa table. It defines my entry and my living room because it's all one open space. Added bonus, when our son is home visiting and playing the piano, he's facing everyone in the living room, rather than the way I had it previously with him facing the wall. Love your living room with the furniture placement, high ceilings, large windows and lovely fireplace!

Happy Easter! Those huge windows are so beautiful and wonderful. They were my favorite part of living in a historic house. Drop cloths that are 100%cotton do well for slipcovers and are less than half the price of duck cloth. I used them when we had teenage boys and all the friends that come with that. For temperature control I used it as curtains too but lined with polartec. I love the rocker and since it’s an heirloom, is it comfortable? Do people gravitate toward it? If so could it have a pride of place in the primary circle and the smaller mid century could swap places with it. I had an eat in kitchen but it was a galley kitchen and the dining felt pressured. I wanted to deep clean the floor so I dropped the table to the living room. I loved it there so much it’s never gone back. lol accidental wonderful.

Happy Easter to you too! Thank you. I do want to interline my window treatments ... I'll have to look at polartec. I don't know what is out there at all! The rocker is comfortable if you like rockers lol. I will try swapping it. I think that might be a good move! Thank you. That's a great story about your accidental table. I love things like that.

That’s funny ,last week I thought to myself maybe your couch would look better facing the fireplace as we in England make the fireplace the main feature.I live in Florida now but still have our couch facing the fireplace .I think your room looks good now .Im wondering if you could put a narrow console table behind the couch with some feature ornament or flower arrangement on as it will sort of block the back of peoples heads .

Thank you! Oooh I just might have to try that. I’ve always wanted one of those in here…

Your heirloom rocker may do better in another room as it looks cramped where you have it. I would also suggest a different place for the chair next to your couch. It’s crowding your overall beautiful layout and walkway. Decorating Rules aren’t set in concrete, but guidelines.

Yes, I really like that layout. Any suggestions for small apt living rooms? I'm mostly kidding but kind of serious. Lol. It's been a challenge with the doors and windows on every wall.

I know, doors and windows! I would suggest focusing on getting a comfortable grouping for conversations. Thinking about comfort, even if a window has to be blocked a bit or the back of the sofa is to the door. Laurel Bern has a couple of posts about small living rooms that I think are really good: laurelberninteriors.com/hate-house-help-small-living-room/
