    Today I learned that those "Warranty Void if Removed" stickers are actually illegal in the US. Here is a great article from iFixit that breaks down the situation for the US and other regions: www.ifixit.com/News/74736/warranty-void-stickers-are-illegal-in-the-us-what-about-elsewhere
    Also in the video I misspoke and said the Ryzen 7 5700U base clock is 1.6GHz when it is in fact 1.8GHz. I also incorrectly labeled the DDR4 RAM as LPDDR4 in my on-screen graphic. This channel is really going downhill!

    PC gaming has never been more accessable. As someone with a high-end rig it's great to see these lower power draw devices populate the market. All we need now is someone to put a CRT screen in one of these mini pcs and make it the ultimate retro device.

      Having a mini screen with some useful data is actually not out of place with mini PC's (this is speaking more from the diy space than the prebuilt space though) I support! I'm not sure the mini keyboard and mouse would be all the worth the added cost that would come with it though (maybe a usb-c hub that's shaped like a mini keyboard?).

      Its a scare tactics.
      Even if only 20% less people open their devices, its worth it.
      The stickers cost nothing, and if you save 20% on repairs because people think they dont have warranty so dont send it in when broken, its definitely worth it.
      And if someone sends it in without stickers, you can be the great guy "oh dont worry, even though the stickers are off, we fix it for you because we are a great company".
      You literally cant loose putting those on the devices. Its free money basically.

My only requests are that when you do the emulation testing you could flash your settings screen for a moment so people can pause and compare against their own setups when needed. Or at least specify if you have changed anything from default. I would also ask that you swap windows and linux testing to make linux the default. I dont know what other people on this channel prefer but I would never consider making this a dedicated emulation machine on Windows. To me windows is just for the casual user that wants to also use this as an office machine. But of course thats just how I see things. They missed a good opportunity here to really make their mark and carve their own niche in the mini PC market by feeding more into nostalgic consumers by making the standard base to sit upright like actual Macintosh PC's as well as put a cheap but functional screen to display PC performance...
    granted the price will probably cost a bit more but if it's at least competitive to the other PC's like beelink and minisforum then it may be well worth it to some...as such, with the difficulty to upgrade it I'd rather pay the extra $20 for one of the other mini PC's that make it easier....
    If they decide to make another they should do 1 like those dome like colorful Mac's from the 90's. And make it so that you simply open the transparent back to upgrade the ram and storage.😜

  • @livinlicious

    Its a hard sale honestly.
    Its marginably better than the Steamdeck. But its just a mini PC.
    The steamdeck for 350, has about 75-80% the power of this device. But is a standalone device.
    The Steamdeck Oled has the nearly identical benchmarks with the new CPU, is about 350 as well, and its a full device.
    When you put the Steamdeck on a dock, its all in all the better experience. You can just pick it up and go somewhere else.
    I think even if you are in the market for a minipc, the steamdeck + dock is just the better option.
    And try to go for the OLED. Whatever reviewers or valve say, the OLED is way better for the same price.

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I agree that the Steam Deck is a great option, but one point of clarification is that the OLED model starts at $550, so there's a pretty huge price gap between the two. But still the 64GB LCD Deck at $349 is a very good option as a hybrid handheld/docked solution!

    • @View619
      @View619 Před 8 měsíci +1

      The OLED is over $500, that alone will change the discussion. Not to be mean, but you should probably do some research on that before making recommendations.

    I find it puzzling that they offer a barebones option but put a warranty sticker where you are forced to open it...if i had to guess, I'd say that sticker is basically meaningless and they would honor the warranty regardless....however, i also find it puzzling when people have a device for over a year and always give the excuse of "...but it will void my warranty if..." The warranty is long gone buddy, you can do whatever you want with it.😄

    Not sure I can get on board with that degree of form over function. I liked it at first because I had a Macintosh SE years ago and it's so cheap, but how is it possible that they have something that looks like it could be an access panel for the RAM and storage on the top - on the correct side of the motherboard too - but it isn't an access hatch, so you have to gut the thing.
    Like, just make the top face the removable one. Maybe it'll be a bit uglier but they've absolutely sacrificed user friendly upgrades for aesthetics here.
    Then again given the inspiration for the design, maybe that was deliberate. I had to buy a super long torx driver to crack my Mac SE open because they recessed the top screws deep inside the carry handle.

    Compare this to the Minisforum UM790 Pro which I bought. For slightly less than half the price, you get half the computer in every respect: Memory, storage, ports, and processing power. However, doubling the memory and storage is not that expensive.
    The cost of a computer is not just the box. You must also invest in a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Why not spend a little more and get double the computer?
    However, I wanted to buy a computer for an elderly parent who doesn't need much, which in this case cheaper is better. I have seen some very low-cost mini-computers that would have been adequate, but I ended up buying a good used i5 computer for cheap.
