    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Indra Nooyi is one of the most inspirational business leaders in the world! and it is so hard to believe that a girl with no extra-ordinary background went from being an ordinary girl from South India to becoming the CEO of the largest beverage company in the world which we all know as Pepsico! and this is a very very big deal because we talking about a time and industry that was so male dominated that every single one top 15 positions were held by a man!! In 1994, even the most accomplished women were stick at middle management!! and guess what, the number of female CEOs among the 500 biggest companies was zero! but en then this incredible woman did not just break through these walls and become the CEO but also took Pepsico to such great heights under her Tenure that PepsiCo saw its revenue grow by more than 80 per cent and added a new billion-dollar brand almost every other year. On top that the company also gave back $79.4 billion to shareholders in the form of dividends and share repurchases.
Which is why in this women's day special episode, lets try to understand
What was so special about Indra Nooyi?
How did she beat all the odds to become one of the most powerful women in the world?
and most importantly, what are the business lessons that we need from this incredible Woman?

Can you make a video on Chinese industries? Because the entrepreneur culture is very strong there and companies also benefit a lot. So can India be capital of manufacturing like china? What different stuff they do so that they get manufacturing contract from so many companies? This can greatly help develop our industries as we can understand our shortcomings. I don't mean any geopolitical stuff here, i just want pure knowledge and facts.

They developed SEZs because of which other companies could able to get lands at very cheap cost also tax exemptions + they had cheap labour. We can say that they were at right place at the right time. Same advantage even India had at that time but at that time india was a closed economy. Because of so many manufacturing hubs their engineers became skilled enough and started developing there own business + if they copied any of those products china doesn't used to take any actions against them which helped in growing the entrepreneurial mindset as well as setup.. china also gives a lot of incentive to come back and work in their own country.. actually there are many things but right now I could able to recall few of these reasons

Read Indra Nooyi's autobiography, such an inspiring woman for all the ladies out there. Her journey moving from India to the USA, the struggles she faced there as an immigrant and becoming CEO of PepsiCo showed me women can also rule the corporate world as Indra did.

Her surname Nooyi means "well". I am reminded of it, whenever I hear her name as Nooyi as a person, by his/her surname that is normal in America (in South India, a person isn't referred to or addressed by surname). Also another such thing. Her name is Indira meaning Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and not "Indra" which means king (male) of gods or Zeus as in Greek mythology.

People just don't realize this, when you give chance to a woman to lead, she can create actual miracles. Nooyi has been big inspiration. My respect for her is not just because she is female CEO but because she actually sold products that are bad for health and yet was able to pull it off.

      @anindyabhattacharya4878 Před 2 lety +5

It's not about giving chances, succesful women and men earn their chances. Both genders are the same and have equal opportunities. A big company like PepsiCo will never appoint a Ceo just for the sake of giving chance to a women rather they will choose the most capable one. Indra ji is highly capable and qualified. She must have destroyed all her Ceo competitors and has earned the spot. It's not about getting a chance, it's about winning it. She is my inspiration also.
I would request you to remove the word chance from your comment. She has earned the spot, PepsiCo didn't give her a chance. 🙂

This is not taught or shared among peers in India; but I corroborate with you here that this topic elevates the decision making in both tech and non-tech businesses in 21st century.

Great rendition again Ganesh. Thanks for your wish. Just like any leader who struggles to reach the top, Nooyiji had hers. It is really competitive especially in the US economy.
As for her strategies, it comes from her roots and to bring a purposeful graph to an iconic brand is rather difficult.
But luckily health consciousness slowly pervaded and she could get the support from the market.
As a woman and a business leader, she surmounted challenges and the key take away from her as a person is to infuse a sense of purpose as you said, have fun with a mission is the next and doing business ethically may be the final recipe.
Design thinking is nothing but segregating and cleaning out your Almirah strategy perhaps. Good show.

Just one thing I want to say over here that it is actually wrong to say that 'she is here without much background' as she is an alum of IIM Calcutta & the institute itself is a definition of the word 'brand'. Yeah, I completely agree that she has achieved alot in her life & is an inspiration for millions including me. But yes, she has a strong foundation too from the days of IIMC.
Edit -> Also, this is true that she has come a long way especially due to her hard work & talent. Coz there are many alums of IIMC, but there is no second Indra Nooyi, so in no way, I am saying that only her IIMC tag brought her to this place. Her own contribution is extremely important, but it is also not correct to say that she doesn't have any background. So both the IIMC brand & her own contribution to her work brought her to this place she is at today.
