I had no idea Estonian was so similar to Finnish, and turns out they have the same anthem melody! I don’t speak Finnish but understand some, and I see the likeness.
The anthems are slightly different. In the Finnish anthem, there is a repetition at the end, which is not there in the Estonian version. It's funny because many times foreign countries mess this up and play the Estonian anthem for a Finnish team.

Not going to summarize all the history here but a little research will show you, why did this song stick as our (Estonian) anthem and it doesn't seem like the Finns would be opposed to it. We share the melody and get along just fine :-)

The reason is that Ivangorod (Jaanilinn in Estonian) was part of Narva between 1649 and 1945. As such, it was part of Estonia while it existed as an independent nation. Having reestablished Soviet control over Estonia in 1945, the authorities decreed to shift the border on the river, annexing all the territory east of the river as part of Russia and turning Ivangorod into a separate town within Russia. The fortress was built by Ivan III of Moscow and that's why Russians claim it as theirs. Greetings from the east of the Czech Republic :-)
