Haha yes the micro crop farm is amazing, I think I made the first rendition of that back in 2020, now I just made it smaller.

Concrete farm doesn't, dispenser puts it out as a pickup item and not as a block. The crop farm I had to modify to make work and not as designed. This may have to do with playing on game platform and not on a computer.

for lava farm you can even use warped (nether) wood trapdoor for an even smaller size (despite it will take same amount of block , its still smaller) cuz as you may know (because logic) nether wood dont burn.

I've seen micro crop farms like this before and there is one thing I don't understand. What is it about the stair and piston configuration that breaks the crops?

It just turns the area dark and the crops break automatically :)
