Living in Cubao, I can recall during my younger years there were 3 major fires that happened in Araneta Center. First, during the 80's was the Queen's Supermarket behind New Frontier Cinema (now occupied by Manhattan Parkview towers). Then the Farmer's market in 1988 (now Farmers Plaza). And last I remember in the 90's was Uniwide Sales (now Puregold). But my memories of Cubao were mostly fun, dahil iyan lang ang lagi naming puntahan ng family noon para mamasyal or mag-shopping, especially during Christmas season sa COD and Fiesta Carnival, until they cease to exist. 😀

I had lot of happy and painful memories in
Cubao we used to hangout in farmer’s when I was on my teen
    Age years I remember
It was only quezon arcade araneta stadium
Cod new frontier to name a few. Sad because I was also a
    Victim of snatchers
Near Ali mall that almost taken my life
    I got stab praised God
I was sent to emergency by a people
Who help me I really thank them whoever they are and to the snatcher who did it
    I already forgiven him
God has a plan for me
    Plans to prosper me
    And not to harm me
    Plans to give us hope
In the future , Really God is good.and Jesus
Has wonderful plan to each of us .

Maraming salamat, sir Fern. Cubao is very dear to my heart. From where I was born and have lived for most of my life, Cubao is just a jeepney ride away. I was born in the 1960s and Cubao has become part of my childhood days. I have seen its transformation and enjoyed so many beautiful memories throughout the years. Up until before the pandemic I still get to roam around Cubao. I miss the old Cubao na kinalakihan ko but I love how it has been transformed. Again, maraming salamat for the reminiscences of the old Cubao. 😊

My earliest fond memory of being in Cubao was in 1979, school field trip yun at isa ang Fiesta Carnival na lubos kong kinaaliwan. I vividly remember seeing the then teen-age Maricel Soriano as a celebrity guest sa aming school event.

During that time Araneta coliseum was under construction.

Memories from my elementary years with my siblings include the kiddie rides and waffle hotdogs in Fiesta Carnival, the Christmas show in COD, the Holiday On Ice shows every Christmas in Araneta Coliseum, Rustan's Department Store and Supermarket and Yum Yum Tree outside the supermarket where we would eat after shopping or buying groceries, the New Frontier theater where my mom took us to watch movies, Ali Mall, etc, etc. Lots of memories, so when we returned to the Philippines, Gateway Center (that's what it's called now, right?) was among the places that I took my child to because I was sort of excited to see the new and modern Cubao and Araneta Center, and also tell my child stories about how I enjoyed going there when I was a kid.

As a college student and a young professional, I lived in Cubao from 1970 to 1980 with my Grandma, my Uncle and his sister, my Aunt. Those were such memorable times. The Araneta Coliseum, Ali Mall, Farmers Market, New Frontier Supermarket (where my Aunt and I used to do our grocery shopping every Saturday), Fiesta Carnival, Marikina Shoe Fair, COD, Ma Mon Luk(for their noodles and Siopao), Rempson Shoe Store (where we bought our shoes), Coronet Movie Theater, the Jeepney Terminal at the Gasoline Station at Yale St. corner Aurora Boulevard, Tropical Hut (for Hamburgers) along Tuason St., Shoemart, Goldilocks Bake Shop (where we used to go for Sans Rival and Brazo Mercedes). I truly miss those times.

But of course, I appreciate the new and classy Cubao of today. It's a lot cleaner naman compared before.
I was born in 1968 and my father (deceased) was born in 1933. My father used to tell that Cubao comes from the word "lubluban ng kalabaw " 'pagkat sakahan pa ito noong araw.

Noon mas open to the skies dahil di pa marami ang tall buildings.
