It was recorded 5 days after his dad past away from cancer. This was one of his dad's favorite songs. Dan has said that he regrets that his dad died before he made it. You can feel his pain, the same pain anyone who has lost there Dad.

I imagine this was hard on you on this day. I can't believe how he was able to hold himself together to sing this. Our hearts break for him. Thanks for your heartfelt reaction. My Dad passed away in 2019 also, and I miss him every day. But he was ready to be with the Lord and I look forward to seeing him again someday. God bless you today.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch this, it makes me cry every time. Watching Dan look up at Heaven, he's singing to his dad. He sings this so beautifully, even in his grief. His dad had just passed 5 days before. I love Dan! He's taking care of his family. I saw a video, all in Brazilian Portuguese(his native language) and at the end his grandma was in it. So sweet! ❤

Dan's father was a huge Elvis fan, and his dad's favorite Elvis cover was Elvis's "An American Trilogy" Dan recorded this as a tribute to his father less than a week after his father passed away from cancer.
This gets me every time I listen to it. This was a tribute to his Dad. Have you heard him sing our national anthem or Handel's Halalujah chorus? Phenomenal!
He's the best at what he does and especially putting his feelings out there for all of us to feel. Mahalo! A Brazilian singing the American National Anthem with more respect and conviction than a lot of people who live in this country.

This is an Elvis song. His dad loved Elvis and this song especially, was one of his favorites. Dan recorded this video only 5 days after his dad passed away, which accounts for the tears. I honestly can't believe that he was able to do it. It takes incredible strength to be able to sing through tears. Heck, I have a hard time even talking when I'm crying and even more so, when I'm trying to hold back tears. Dan did Elvis proud with this one and his dad, too.

There is nothing Dan cannot sing. How many artists in this universe could sing, arrahge, and produce a video like this, right after the passihg of one of the people you are closest to in your life. It took so much courage in the midst of mourning. I am continually humbled by Dan's character which is so evident in this tribute to his father. 😏

My dad was also born in 1919! He went all the way through WW2, and came home safely, though he suffered the rest of his life with what we'd now call PTSD. Then he passed away at age 54 (as his father had before him). Years later, my younger-younger brother (the younger of my two younger brothers) also passed away at age 54! When the other brother had reached age 54, we all had kind of held our group breath, waiting to see if Gary would advance past age 54. He did, and he's still going strong, at age 72 (though his wife passed away this past spring). I miss my dad, my mom, my young brother, and the brother nobody but Mom ever got to meet, because only lived 10 hours. I have many, many great memories, though, and I thank God for them. 😀
@@GrandmasGotGraceLW, i am sorry for all those loses, but can relate.i lost my sister when she was 45, my dad was 67, he also was in ww2, he had a year and a half retirement after working 35 as a line men for the power company. i was lucky i had my mom till she was 88, but i miss them all everyday.
His Amazing Grace is remarkable. He did a section with the harmonica his dad gave him when he was 7 and that started him into loving music. He is fabulous. You can’t stop watching him

So after reading the captions and translating the words on Google Translate, I figured out it was for his dad! I'm torn......
It still hits me hard when I watch it, and I do, quite often. With my own dad having passed away when he was only 54 years old, these things hit me awfully hard, too, Sam. Still...I would rather listen and feel that oneness of spirit. BIG HUGS.

I've only been watching and listening since April, when Amazing Grace hit me flat in the face. I also watch this one every now and again, because it's so very beautiful, and it really shows Dan's heart. I find myself saying to him, out loud, things like, "You can do it, Dan. Hang in there. You are strong, and your dad is at peace." I just can't seem to stop doing that...as I cry!

Tears well up in my eyes every time I watch tears overwhelm Dan, yet he finishes strong for his father. It just breaks my heart to see him in pain. Sam, I'm sorry you lost your dad. My dad passed on Christmas morning.. it was the most heartbreaking Christmas I’ve ever experienced. We had to finally say..” dads gone home for Christmas”.. great reaction to Dans emotions..& song. What a great tribute to his dad.. I felt his pain & it was a beautiful moving experience .. ♥️

Dan actually recorded this song, which was his father's favorite Elvis song, only 5 days after he died from cancer.
The text in the outtro says 'Sleep with God dad - see you soon'.
I can't even imagine the level of vocal control it takes for him to prevent his voice from breaking, because you can actually see his cheeks and lips starting to quiver a bit in the final part, and to not have that influencing the voice takes a hell of a lot of release in the throat.
This is mastery at a whole other level.

What a beautiful reaction you gave. I’m sure by now you are very aware of the backstory of this video. The only things I would add to possibly all the comments is this, Dans dad died on October 4, 2017. Dans birthday is October 13, 1989 and he turned 28 just 9 days later. So his heart is raw and broken when he recorded this tribute to his daddy. It is both heartbreaking and beautiful that he was able to get through this song, absolute strength of willpower. It shows what an incredible man he is. He has said how sad he is that his father wasn’t able to see him grow and become successful, but we fans know that Papa Vasconcelos is watching over both of his sons and is ‘button popping’ proud of all their accomplishments and dedication to their musical skills!!! So I say, let’s get Dan to 1 million subscribers! Hail DanVascnation!!! 🧔🏻♀️🫡🤘🏼💪🏼🫶🏻💪🏼. I would like to suggest that anyone who hasn’t watched yet watch Gethsemane! 🫡💪🏼WOW!!! 🤯

I just saw the post for this come up while I was watching your reaction to Pretty Woman, and I thought, "Oh, Sam!" By now I'm sure you've seen his statement about his dad, in the description for the song.
With Dan, it would be really good to check the description, at least just before you begin to react, because there are going to be things he'll say that will actually help people know what's happening in the background.
With the Christmas ones, there will be information about languages, for one thing. You will be amazed at the languages Dan can sing perfectly. Some he actually speaks, but others, he studies out and sings them faultlessly.
You and I and other singers know that LATIN is going to be in many of the Christmas songs, but SO many people don't. When Dan tells about what languages he's singing, he doesn't mention THAT one. It's just there, and he simply makes it beautiful.
I would love it if you would react to both Nessun Dorma and Son of Pain.
Also, you will get used to Dan giving us songs that help us walk in POWER! Also, he delights in using the words from songs in ways that you MIGHT not expect. Look for the unusual, and watch for symbology.
There will be a new song coming out either this week or next (before Halloween), that may surprise everyone. He gave hints about two weeks ago, and I went and looked at the lyrics, and I'm just waiting to see the reactions, because it's going to be a little startling to some people, I think.
Last year, he did Helloween's "Dr. Stein" for his October video. You might want to react to THAT one, before the new one comes out, and if/when you do, check out the lyrics on the "Dark Lyrics" site. You don't have to do it ahead of time, but it will make it easier to understand what Dan's going to sing, if you can follow along with the original words. There are meanings behind them, that are why Dan used that song last year.
