It’s a little late to answer now but they’re actually dodging into Tetsuzanko (backwards-forwards-punch) which takes magic to use in battle. I’m purely guessing but I’m pretty sure it stops you from falling for long enough to dodge without losing height Correction edit: it takes magic to do the wicked weave part, the move itself is performable without magic
