Such a shame he lost a passion for acting, he was one of the most gifted child actors I've ever seen
He wants a regular life, he deserves it
Well.. noot quite. He has had some movie roles in 2020 and 2021
He's still young. Plenty of time to go back.
He came back, has done some theater and a BBC series
The only one I've ever seen. He's made enough money to never need to work again anyway.
He nailed it! The fact that people hated him in real life is the ultimate testiment to his skill and on screen presence.
And a testament of how stupid people really are.
the fact that people hated him in real life is the ultimate testiment of how fucking stupid we as a society got.. we evidently deserve the wars and ilnesses, because for fuck sake how can be someone this stupid? is it low IQ, poor education or what exactly, i wonder
They didn’t 10:20 he literally says that hasn’t happened
Yup takes a special talent to make people suspend disbelief to that level
Nope that just means that people doesn’t know the difference between character and actor.
I have a ton of respect for him . He took a break so the game didn’t give him an ego , and didn’t care about the celebrity lifestyle . He was still one of the best characters
Yes except it wasn't for an ego check, it was for all the undeserved harassment he got from playing a fictionnal character
@@lasterman94100 Can you give a source for this claim?
@@hk1371you can look it up and it’ll show you he got genuine death threats because of how well he played Joffrey
@@tribunal3003 its inevitable that anyone in the spotlight will get harassment but most actors can ignore it. Its only extreme cases where it's well known and the actor themselves say "it was down to the harassment", which Jack doesn't say here.
Its important that we dont assume what made him leave when he could (as he was saying here) didnt feel the same passion for his hobby. That he didnt wish to pursue it and lose its charm.
@@tribunal3003 Linda Blair actually grew up to be a baddie and a Playboy model lol.
I seriously can’t believe how good he was at Joffrey. He took a villain to a whole different level. Pure pure talent
Yeah, i honestly can't think of any other actors who could play Joffrey as well as he did.
Literally born for the part
I bet he got offered 100s of villian parts and got so annoyed he was being typecast that he quit
Him and tom felton from hp iconic roles
Both Jack and Lena got shade from people for how well they portrayed their characters. As much as I feel disgusted that some people cannot separate the actor from the character, it's just a testament to how well those two did in the show. I wish Jack all the best and do hope he comes back to being an actor.
Although I agree they played their parts very well, I would argue that it's more a testament to human psychology. There's a term, the fundamental attribution error, which I believe can be used to explain these kinds of behavior.
Yeah like how the actress that played Abby in Last of us part 2, she was getting deaththreats... I myself hated Abby the character for what she did to Joel! But I like the actress , she played the part wonderful! Like this kid, Jeffrey Lannister is one of the characters I hated most out of all series. Hes top 3 characters I've hated most. But he is awesome and very nice
He played the character so good!!
Thats how you k ow they're talented actors, but people are wrong to treat them like crap just because they played their character well
@@viggoyyyou don't need to be a CZcams psychologist to know they're merely retarded "fans" who don't know how acting works.
@@jimsty5222 saying they’re ”merely retarded fans” makes it sound like it doesn’t happen often. Thing is, it does though. It happens to a lot of actors, by a lot of people. I used to discard it as just some people being stupid, but considering how common it is I don’t think that explanation paints an accurate picture.
I never ever hated a character in a movie more than Joffrey...that tells me something about the quality of Mr. Gleeson. The man has the gift!
Same here. Hated him.
100% Agree i couldn't stand joff
Ramsay was pretty hated too.
I felt the same until I watched Black Jack Randel do his stuff in “Outlander”. Evil AND terrifying. Makes Joffrey look like the host of a toddler’s TV show.
@@pillman8719 ill agree with that 😂 i started to feel myself hating him more than joffrey
He should've won an award for his portrayal of Jeoffrey he really embodied the madness.
Wait...he never won an emmy??? That's crazy!
I think he has. A couple. A people’s choice award for best tv villain and I can’t rember the others. I think one was called we love to hate you lol
He isn't one of gods chosen people. 0.5 percent of earths population, and yet they hold 75 % of all awards, including Nobel peace prizes.
He's such a likeable guy. So awkward yet sweet and personable. It makes sense that such a nice kid could play, possibly, the worst person ever put to screen
I think its always the most sweet and kind people who can play the worst monsters lol

Welp, I guess I must be a nice person, because I keep on getting cast in villain roles.
Jack was perfect as King Joffrey. He was one of the best-casted characters of the show!!
Yep
The only 'issue' is that he was a bit younger then the books, and even that wasn't a downside in the finished product. The way he acted like a nice boy and could switch to an evil bastard within a single shot was just *chef's kiss*
@lygophile except casting for later seasons
GoT had the benefit of being perfectly cast all around. Peter Dinklage did such a good job as Tyrion, you would have no idea that he's 6'2".
@@andromidius almost all the younger characters were aged up though, it’s not really an issue
He’s an incredible actor. His facial expressions, mannerisms…he sold that character. And til this day, he is my most hated TV villain
I'll never understand the legit hate of the Lannister's, not without a good spoonful of empathy.
In the world of Thrones you live or you die. King's Landing will kill you for slipping up *once.* Every smile hides a million daggers, and everybody's watching you at all times. Given that context, how do you get to the top and stay there absent dragons? I know for a fact in a world like, in shoes like those, I'd care very little about the 'right and wrong' and more about the 'staying alive and feared.' Cersei is my favorite character in the series, I love me a boss bitch...and I would've been disappointed if Jamie hadn't returned to her. I'm very out of sync with the majority of the fanbase and it's so odd... we're attracted to the brutal and consequential world, but we're also hateful of the brutal characters and we want the happiest, most cliché outcomes for the heroes lol
Joffrey’s death was so satisfying!
I know me and my friends hated him so much in the show that when the episode of his death finished airing we all called each other got together and went to a bar to celebrate his death lmfao.
@@joebrown6778 Depends where you are in the story. Watching from the begining with no book knowledge paints a pretty bad picture. We see them invited to Winterfell where they are treated like royalty only to see a brother boinking his married sister then trying to kill a little kid.
He was perfect but ramsay from GOT was a way worse character
Joffrey is obviously villaneous, but i cant help but crack up at Joffreys tantrums and facial expressions in lighter moments like Tywin putting him to bed. I just love the actors facial expressions, the way he portrays the brattyness and unhinged childlike nature of Joffrey is incredible acting. Jacks a star
Playing a good character that people love and can relate to is hard, but playing an evil one that makes people hate, and get furious in real life is the masterclass. Mad respect for him.
I wonder if he is like autistic, a psychopath or something.
If he read the book (first one), how could he not know what people felt for his character? Either he is pretending to be funny, or something is mentally wrong with him that he didnt understand the character was disliked 😂😭
It’s a shame the backlash he got from people who couldn’t differentiate from him and a character.
Really though. That'd be like hating Leonardo DiCaprio for his role as Calvin Candy. I thought jackie Gleeson did an amazing joeffry
It's a shame that every other actor and actress gets this. Lena Headey did too, and so has a plethora of other people for their roles. Laura Bailey did for her part in LOU2, Josh McDermitt did for his part in TWD and so forth. People are just really bad at differentiating characters from their actors in general.
It's too bad he hasn't gotten together with Wil Wheaton and Chandler Riggs.
Never underestimate the potential for idiocy from the human animal. People taking this as real life ffs. Total morons.
Means he did a good job.
It is unfortunate that he left acting, he was a good actor.

This kid played one of the most memorable villains on TV ever. Up there with the likes of Darth Vader and Thanos. It's a shame he does not want to act anymore, his performance was exceptional and I would like to see him in other roles.

I think Joffrey's actor was one of the few ones who helped move the character way ahead of what he was in the books. I salute this guy for his effort and success.
On the contrary I think that he portrayed Joffrey exactly as you would imagine him from the books.
I think the scene in Blackwater where you see a scared little boy as all his arrogance falls away when he realises he might actually die added some humanity to him briefly. I agree that Jack can be really proud that he brilliantly evoked a classic Villian - as what Joffery wouldn't do like many bullies he's a coward and we saw in Blackwater he doesn't possess any real courage he'd never fight someone unless it was rigged in his favour from the start. I'm glad Jack doesn't sound anything like Jack I think it'll help him realise he's just a brilliant actor. It's a bit sad playing a monster seems to have put him off acting.
My favourite line of his is "I am NOT..... TIRED!!!" when Tywin is bossing him
Ive met him like 7 years ago on comic con. I will never forget how sweet and nice he was. We had a full conversation and he even tried to say something in german. Still got his autograph here and i will never forget that.
The more I hate a character, the more I love the actor playing them.

Delores Umbridge’s actress is also a legend, she acted so good I hated her, it takes a lot of skill and practise to act this good as well, I felt sorry for her after though since some people can’t tell between the character and the part he/she’s playing
Pamela Rabe 😍 🤩
The actor did a phenomenal job portraying one of the most hated characters in TV history and if I ever meet him in person I would be glad to shake his hand. Mr. Gleeson does not deserve anything but respect for his work. It is sad that some people cannot separate the reality from the fiction.
He's a great actor. Very rare to find such talent in modern film.
Very talented, his movements are snappy on film. He definitely has a gift.
The stark(bad dum tss) contrast between the actor and the character is mind blowing. Jack is so well spoken and overall, just seems like a really nice guy. Well as for Joffrey, we all know how he's like.
Jack Gleeson made me genuinely hate Joffrey Lannister but knowing that he’s about as opposite as it gets from that character makes me appreciate just how talented he is. His cast mates had nothing but nice things to say about him and all I can say is that I hope he does more beyond Game of Thrones. He could do any role and crush it
Pretty sure he was a Baratheon in name only.
Jack is skilled at being the bad guy. I'd like to see him do the good guy side in a different show.

Bit of a type cast though.
Wish to see him as a younger version of Homelander, since Homelander is basically Joffrey Baratheon but with laser eyes.
He really pulled a hatred out of the audience and thats truly what was needed to play such a character. He flat out killed this role!
“Not the most altruistic fella”
Definitely hit the nail on the head.
He's great. lol.
Jack Gleeson was utterly excellent! A complete tour de force as the evil Joffrey Baratheon. A fabulous turn.
Joffrey Lannister not Baratheon
Well you wouldn't want to be around him so...he is even worse in the books.

Joffrey Lannister*
His name is Joffrey Baratheon, first of his name, illegitimate heir to the iron throne, king of the Andals, ruler of the seven kingdoms, protector of the realm,
Joffery in the books is hateable but show Joffery just brings an extra level of revulsion and I think a lot of that is down to the performance. The subtle little touches in expression and body language deliberate enough to be noticed but understated enough to not be hammy. Just makes him extra vile. Sad to see he's quitting acting but "most hated character ever" is a great note to end on.
Playing the bad guy is always more interesting than playing the good guy :)
Seriously for a kid he has a scarily vivid imagination of how vile a person can be, let alone acting it out for a camera.
Really well put. I read the books first and as usual I liked the books a lot more, but there's something to said for those little details the actors bring to life that simply cannot be written in ink. The advantage if books is that you get to use your imagination to fill in for what the author is implying, but sometimes truly great actors can do a much better job than your imagination!
@@AllanMogensenI wouldn’t say always, a well written character good or bad is fun for an actor to play. Plenty of bland villians not enjoyed by the actor playing them.
Jack Gleeson is without discussion one of the most gifted actors I have ever seen, to play such an evil (and insane) character at such a young age, and do it so well that everyone despises them, to be so exceptional, and then just take a break to clear his head. Man I hope we get more from him in the future.
💯💯💯 He is brillant
He got his bag and is living his life while he's still young and growing. Props to him for doing what he wants.
Hats off to the lad. He was incredible as Joffrey.
I wouldn't be surprised if this guy nabs a superhero role, and everyone suddenly loves him.
He could fit in countless comic roles, absolutely.
I feel like he’s such a fantastic actor and principled person that he would never go for a superhero movie. He’s far too talented for that kind of genre. Unless he went took a ‘Joaquin Phoenix in Joker’ direction. That would be bomb af. GOT was full of amazing actors, but Jack as Joffrey, Charles Dance as Tywin, and Peter Dinklage as Tyrion took the cake for me. Their acting transcended the characters and brought them to life. Them Lannisters, man. When a character is that level of hate-able, you know the actor is doing an amazing job. Tywin wasn’t even despisable, he was such an impressive character in the show, and that was all Charles Dance. That scene between him and Joffrey at the steps of the throne was hands down, in the top three greatest moments of acting in the entire seasons. Tyrion at trial was another. And probably Tyrion seeing the destruction Dany brought and finding his dead siblings. As much as I loathe the final season (and 7. And not the biggest fan of 6 either), that scene had terrific acting, despite the poor writing. But getting off my tangent and back to your comment haha, if Jack took a protagonist role in a big budget film, everyone would love him. I’m willing to bet he’d never do it though.
Super villain
He'd be a good Johnny Storm.

He’s such a great actor. Considering he’s a really nice guy in real life then plays one of the most hated characters on a tv show just shows how talented he really is. Plus he was only a young lad when he came onto GOT. Amazing quality for a youngster 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
People can't separate fiction from real life, so sad. Jack did an amazing job and the show would not have been the same without him. All the best to him.

He gave an absolutely terrific performance and such a shame we have not seen him in the role of a hero which he could doubtless play just as well.
He really was a huge part of what made the series and good luck in all future endeavours!!
Mr. Gleeson is a definitely gifted person. He was able to create such a powerful and repulsive image that it was almost impossible to believe that he's different in real life.
Great respect to this man from me and all my friends who absolutely love these series.
The accuracy to which he understands the questions and precisely answers them too.. brilliant actor!! ❤️❤️❤️
He played that role flawlessly. Love to see him act in some other films.
Alfie Allen to D&D "read the books for once" lmao hes just saying what probably all the actors were thinking.
Never saw a interview, what a well spoken, genuine young man. So glad I came across this .
Briliant acting. He was a kid when GoT started but be absolutely nailed that role in a confident manner. Deserves more recognition for it imo.
He seems like a genuinely good-natured young man. Wish him all the best ☺️
I absolutely love Jack! He’s so unassuming and humble. I love that he removed himself from something he lost passion of instead of staying and regretting it and turning out awful characters. That’s a strong character trait that some of the actors we have now should really look at themselves to see if they’ve lost the passion as well. I can’t imagine having to be someone else for most of your life and losing the true you along the way. It definitely takes a special kind of person. Good for Jack to make sure he stays true to himself and follow what HE wants and not letting anyone or anything stop him or talk him out of it.👍❤️

He was fantastic in the show from his first scene to his last, great writing complimented by an an actor who gave it 110%
You know the kid is good when you can immediately like him even though he was such a hateable character.
Two different people.
He was an incredible talent. I hope he chooses to act again someday.
I've heard he is doing theater again and is enjoying the craft. If he was a more seasoned actor he could've dealt with the hate and threats. Jeffery Dean Morgan is a great example of how a veteran actor can handle people who can't separate life from fiction. Negan was so hated and he was shouted at in the streets and sent tons of threats but he brushed it off and took it as a compliment. If you're a child and your first gig makes people despise you it is hard to take that as a compliment of how great of an actor you are. It takes a true talent to evoke real emotions from the audience and not many can do it. They usually rely on big musical scores to convey the emotion. There's channels that take music out of scenes to show how without the music the scene doesn't do much for you. When a show/movie can make you laugh and has no laugh track or music or a scene fully engulfs you and it is just characters talking you are witnessing true talent.
@@dontcare7086 what hate, what threats? In this very intervju he gets asked if people mistakes him for Joffrey and he says that he get asked that from time to time, but luckily that have never happened, if it had, that could have been bad, so I'm lucky it never have.

To potray his part as well as he did shows talent
He was a top 5 or 3 performances in a cast of all time great actors. Astonishing really
lets be honest theres something to the idea that joffrey is the most entertaining villain in GoT and it went down hill after he died in the books and the show. he's so fun to hate and to see him through Sansa's eyes was just awesome how she goes from being enchanted by him to wanting him dead. hes just a great villain overall especially how Jack played him.
