  • Hello and welcome to Badger Workshop. I have been in this workshop for over a year now and felt it was time to have a reorganise. I build a new workbench with space for storage under it.

    The new bench looks great; as does the shop rearrangement. The hardboard top is a good idea. Looks like you have that space really well organized now. Thanks, as ever, for sharing your idea. Best wishes. :)

    Anyone else really craving a brew and a few biscuits now? You need a kettle and a biscuit tin in the revamped workshop.

    Hi Matt, a nice simple way to build a sturdy workbench. For the small added cost, I would have oriented the top timbers the other way, making it even more sturdy.

    • @stevebosun7410
      @stevebosun7410 Před 4 lety

      Mmm..... Not sure I understand that, unless the height of the bench is critical. The height under is the same, whatever the orientation.

    I used scaffolding boards jointed with the tracksaw, it worked okay but it turned out scaffold boards are abit wet so they did warp abit after drying in the warm workshop. I will be remaking my workbench too soon and want to incorporate a bandsaw into the bench as its my best saw.

    Handy having a workbench to build the new workbench on lol. Are you enjoying that glow that comes when you get things tidied and set up better, the deep breath sensation - I love it! [btw I usually score one or two passes on the back of the hardboard, too, before snapping it - but it don't really matter] Enjoy the new elbow room!

    I assume the advantage of a biscuit joiner ocer dowels is you don’t have to be absolutely bob on with the position of the holes? As the I’m guessing the slots allow for some wiggle room of the biscuits?
    I’d always wondered that as I’ve seen people cutting holes with biscuit cutters and seeming to do it very quickly and I’ve always wondered how they’re getting them in the same place on each piece of timber.. obviously they’re all marked up together and I guess if the holes are within a couple of mil you’re laughing?
    Did wonder if you’d run a flush cut but along the ends of the bench top just to clean it up but as you say - it’s a bench.

  • @iancreese9310
    @iancreese9310 Před 4 lety

    Very good video as usual, I did laugh at you staining the legs of the bench! Like the idea of using that timber to make the top, my present workbench top is made of scaffold boards, but I may change to using the same timber as you did.

    Oh nicely done again Matt, simplicity and functional. Great finish as usual, so I now guess the question is dowell or biscuit for preferred jointing? keep turning out them out, the addiction continues.

    • @Badgerworkshop
      @Badgerworkshop  Před 4 lety +1

    When jointing wood with biscuits it is recommended to only glue one half- allows the wood to move (instead of warp).

    Great bench Matt, got a nice finish on the CLS, makes me want to upgrade my workshop and have a bit of a sort out. I'd suggest you try to get the biscuits closer to the middle of the boards when using the biscuit jointer - seems to keep panels flatter.
