If you initiate contact on a player in a natural defensive position... In any other sport... It's an offensive foul. Just remember that NBA. No free throws should have been awarded for what is basically fishing for a foul. In soccer/football they refer to this as "flopping".
The NBA has changed its rules and the way they officiate the game to cater to offensive players heavily.
That’s why players nowadays are constantly dropping 40 and the average final score is constantly going up drastically each year.
NBA’s mindset thinking it’ll make the game more exciting to watch with it being more highlight driven, but failed to realized it made the game very watered down. Thus why their viewership has been terrible compared to older generations.

I really thought he was getting better after last year but nope ... Trae may be the worst defender in the league. He'll never be a real plus on that end, but it would help a lot if he actually squared up and tried to defend someone instead of immediately scrambling to find help. A lot of the Hawks' defensive lapses are a result of Trae's teammates being forced to cover for him because he won't even try to guard someone 1 on 1, then either he doesn't recover in time or someone else gives up a wide open three because they're trying to stop a wide open layup. It would be a lot better if he just tried to defend on the ball and then they use their usual rotations for when he gets beat off the dribble.
On the other hand, I think Jalen Johnson could for sure make some All-Defensive teams in his career. He's looking like easily the best defender on the team, except for maybe Okongwu

A player can't enter the paint on a Free throw until AFTER the ball hits the rim. Dejounte and company were a little to hasty trying to get that Rebound -- but Scott Foster's veteran presence caught the violation.

Blow the whistle. Ive seen them stretchhhhh that last wave of the arm out to avoid teams getting this violation on crucial moments in importanr moments like playoff games.
So interesting to me that in this game on the call Donte received. The ref calls it literally as he is about to start waving his arm for the 5th time. 😂
Then they decide to give it back to NY and call a lane violation on Atl. Whennnnnnnnnn do they ever call lane violations?!?! Cmon on!! These players have been roasted on TV by analysts and commentators for the blatant lane violations that refs dont bother to call. Interesting the timing of this call against Atl.....

Totally agree with most of this; altho they DEF call lane violations in that situation more than you'd think. Mostly on the shooter tho cuz they have a tendency to try and sneak a head start before they're supposed to by rule. Pretty easy to catch too even tho they try to be slick with it. Rebounders can go on release of the ball but the shooter can't step over the line til the ball hits the rim. So he def tried to sneak ahead & it was the correct call.
That 5 second call was atrocious tho. Embarrassing. Clearly blew it right after the 4th tick.
There was amazing game luka had against the knicks that I remember really well because they didn’t call lane violation on him where he sent it to overtime and mavs won the game where it was really bad missed call that led to the mavs winning

Randle seems to care about stats then wins , to much isolation , almost loosing the ball trying to be the one fouled so he again pad his stats . Life long Knicks fan , a lot of disappointment but they will never win big games with Randle against good teams .
