Philadelphia NIMBYs seriously need a spinoff channel
I mean, one half of them technically does!
@@MilesinTransit The Philadelphia NIMBYS did certainly look like team most likely to throw a battery at Santa Claus.
They have good fundamentals
Oh golly does one of them have one (or two, technically). It’s a fantastic channel too.
Shocked when the Professionals didn't abort mission and detour to the TWA Hotel
Omg Justin in this is exactly how I'd be and I love it. "We're still on the train. Still on the train. Yep, still on the train"
"Our team has good fundamentals."
most chill team in this race and i love it.. I'm rooting for them!
While eagerly awaiting the next episode, I took a look at the bios of the participants. Most of them have impressive credentials. What’s most shocking is that Tribal King is a MBTA bus driver (There’s no way in hell that I would get on a bus driven by him).
i didn’t realize that many of them are full time transit and urban planners
@@varietybacon6969 I guess it makes sense that they are LMAO
The Tribal King does not work for the MBTA...I do know of a certain individual who does work there tho...(and I'm sure he wouldn't want you on his bus neither...)
Dude, it’s a joke. I have the utmost respect for transit workers.
The MetroCard machine at Howard Beach was a paid actor to ruin Marc, Blair, and Barrett, I swear 😂! Loved the Lufthansa A380 after-credits scene! The Brooklyn Army Terminal is quite cool! It was designed by Cass Gilbert, who also designed the US Supreme Court, St. Louis Art Museum, Manhattan's Woolworth and New York Life Buildings, US Chamber of Commerce, and the state capitols of Minnesota, Arkansas, and West Virginia! Its construction was originally approved in 1918 during WWI and was completed in 1919 after the war. During WWII, the terminal was the country's largest military supply base. The army stopped using it in 1967, and it was briefly used by the USPS and the Navy. The NYC government purchased the terminal in 1981.
Slap Wraps were the invention of Stuart Anders from Wisconsin in 1983. Sitting down at his mother’s sewing table one day, Anders pulled out a self-rolling tape measure, which curled up with the flick of his wrist, and began fidgeting with it. He thought his concept would be successful but didn't have the means to produce more. He approached toy designer agent Philip Bart who was sold, but Bart tried approaching different toy companies to no avail, until he approached Eugene Murtha (vice president of Coleco during the Cabbage Patch Kid craze) who saw its potential and produced many of them for a Toy Fair in NYC. However, the thickness and quality of the steel had to be improved for safety, so they weren't ready, but because others got their hands on the Toy Fair prototypes, many rushed knockoffs were made which led to injury.
Woah!! Thank you for sharing all these cool facts! This was very neat!!
Avery is the Wikipedia of youtube
2:39 Finally, someone who knows the difference between a cruise ship and an ocean liner! Nathan is my new favorite person on this channel
I fell off my bed laughing at the activate windows joke
linus lore
I literally paused the video because I started laughing so loud I couldn't hear Justin speak. That was absolutely fantastic.
My parents grew up in the Rockaways even further down the peninsula from where you guys raced to- in the 130s! My dad commuted via public transit every day to a high school on the UES, and I now have so much more respect for him after watching this video. He truly walked uphill both ways to school.
That's an INSANE commute!
Never tell your taxi driver the destination without giving him direction. Always go through FDR and and through Brooklyn
I was absolutely living for this video. A literal foot race finish? Yes please. Edge of my seat. Screaming. I wanted exclusive transit like the taxi and helicopter to lose, but I never thought a bus would be the one to take the crown.
Midterm season and dying, this will be my pick me up
You got this!!
The ocean liner Queen Mary 2 was designed by a team of British naval architects led by Stephen Payne, and was constructed in France by Chantiers de l'Atlantique. He's worked on the design of several Carnival Corporation ships, like the Destiny-class Carnival ships and MS Rotterdam VI (which became the MS Borealis for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines) for Holland America. Queen Mary 2 has a maximum speed of just over 30 knots (or 35 mph) and a cruising speed of 26 knots (or 30 mph), which is faster than a contemporary cruise ship as it is an ocean liner! And Arverne by the Sea got its name from Remington Varnam. He developed an upscale resort community and his wife noticed he signed his checks as "R. Vernam", suggesting to name it Arverne because it's a variation of his name and it sounded French.
So regarding the whole Far Rockaway LIRR thing, the reason the Far Rockaway Branch is the way it is isn't because of the federal government, but because of fires. The LIRR's wooden trestle over Jamaica Bay often caught fire. One fire in May 1950 destroyed 1,800 feet (550 m) of the trestle between the former The Raunt station and current Broad Channel station. As a result, the LIRR deemed the line useless, and instead of repairing it, the LIRR decided to abandon the Rockaway Beach Bracnh in favor of their land route to Far Rockaway. NYC bought the Rockaway Beach Branch in 1952 and converted it to the IND Rockaway Line.
Ohhh ok 👌
I love the addition of the 5th member of Rocz's podcast (the Activate Windows logo) when he's talking on screen. Great cameo from a beloved host.
So much fun! I love how enthusiastic everyone is, how well-=edited this is, and also....a cameo from a stranger with an opinion on transit! What's not to love?
I can’t imagine having such great friends!!! Each of these teams could be a spin off on their own. Thank you for bringing your entertaining, energized, and engaging friends to us. We appreciate you, Miles!!!
Thank you!
this video really activates my windows
12:50 The Jam 🤝 Ruffles 🤝 Exxon 🤝 Squidward
“That yellow splotch is our competition”
Hahaha
i absolutely love these great race videos! seeing the different paths and modes and having your expectations subverted by the end is always so fun. this is such a great group of participants who each bring such unique and fun styles to the video. thanks to everyone involved!
Thank you!
Man the taxi could have been a good contender with the buses if the driver took Woodhaven instead of Rockaway Boulevard, the really long way. I bet Jordan thinks this is all rigged. Can't wait for the next few videos to drop.
Honestly if the taxi had gone the normal way, Jordan probably would've won!
@@MilesinTransit You know what? You are right. The taxi was already over the 59th Street Bridge and well into Queens before Jordan even boarded the express bus.
the man carrying the dog like a plastic bag onto the bus at 28:16 omg
The Philadelphia nimbys are trying to nimby NY buildings? what have we come to!
Counting the cars on the Union Turnpike, they’ve all come to race to Far Rockaway
I ❤ the cameo from Activate Windows
Need more of Jackson’s musings on names
Gotta love the 747 foaming at the end
LMAO the activate windows over Roz
Such a close race! And not just for first. (Well done to the organisers) The tension continues!
Wish I could afford to back you on Patreon
Ditto
I love the Philadelphia nimbys
10/10 video as always my anxiety was through the roof wondering who was going to make it first!
Thank you so much!
As a bus operator I’m thrilled that first and second place went to the bus teams.
babe wake up miles dropped again!!
Such epic cinematic music in the premiere countdown, perfect B)
I really appreciate activate windows
Fantastic series! Always wanted to do this kind of thing back in the day. Feel bad for can guy, that driver saw him coming! Took the longest way for the highest fare. He was doomed when he didn't insist guy take Woodhaven. Great stuff guys!
Thanks so much!
Thank the lord that at least one team had good fundamentals!! lol -- another epic episode! Kudos!
Thank you!
Wacky races, love it
Rockaway beach Oregon? No way
Thanks for the Coney Island shout-out! Also wasn't expecting a 3rd. Binge plan aborted lol
Thanks for the video!
Thank you for watching!
At 24:11 was anyone else questioning the authenticity of their Windows OS?
Little did the other teams know ..Jordan was on his phone having a sensual conversation with a 5 Guys hamburger.
I....don't even know how to respond to this...
We have not one, but TWO WTYP hosts in this video!
4:08 Miles clean your glasses! Haha I can’t believe you are able to see
I also wear glasses. I have that same problem. I carry around lens wipes.
Everyone getting on the same bus is giving TAR roadblock energy lol
The reason that the LIRR Rockaway Line stopped running through was because the line burned. The LIRR didn't want to spend the money to fix it.
This episode had everything I could imagine... Toys 'R Us.
(Can you tell I like nostalgic things?)
Keep up the good work, Miles.
Thank you!
AYO TAXI
Jordan riding first class in a taxi saying yes if you travel from Manhattan to the Rockaway in an Uber you have to tip. Iconic.
You do
@@williamerazo3921 you absolutely have to
Love the Philadelphia NIMBYs 3rd member: the Activate Windows logo
I'm going to only travel by helicopter from now on. Its what Miles would have wanted.
Oh no
I have to admit, I'm the one Twisted Sister on Earth who has no interest in going to New York again, so this has been a REALLY good tour of the outer reaches of the metro area. 😆 15:51
06:49 "Why is something so unsustainable so nice??"
Perhaps a race to go to certain points in each of the 5 Boroughs of NYC. Start from Times Square. For Queens, maybe the Unispire in Flushing Meadows Park (former 1963-64 World's Fair site) for Brooklyn Nathan's on Coney Island, Bronx to Yankee Stadium, Staten Island, maybe Borough Hall. Would have to go in a circular route.
What a delight.
Team Hoagie Heros for the winnnnn 🎉🎉🎉🎉
25:55 As a Californian that is factually incorrect
The bus stops are right outside of stroads 😎
*shakes fist* Damn you Interstate Commerce Commission!
The mayor doesn't raise the fares. The MTA does. They're a state agency.
15:10 "Foamer shot! :D" [gets BLASTED by sunbeam]
the helicopter was SO COOL OMG
16:34 ok thats very very cool being able to see the train across the harbour and its the exact one the other team is on
PHEEWWWWWW 20:40
25:15 !!!!
RETURN OF THE PLANESPOTTING!!! YESSSSSS
what an ending!!
I love all of you
6:20
"This Station is Low Manayunk"
"This Train's going to Bala Cynwyd"
we love SEPTA regional rail
I'll hopefully be on a train during the Premiere
Did the time change?
Epic!
14:50 pretty sure I've eaten there. Good food.
Off topic, but your subway scenes reminded of an old movie- The Warriors- 1979 if you haven’t seen it take a look.
Epic race!
Hey Miles! I love the great race videos and was wondering if maybe you would like to play "Tag Across Boston" with me and a few other Boston railfanners? It would take place sometime this summer.
Did the premier get pushed back 2 hours? I was ready to stay up until 11 CET but can't do 1 am on a work night. No spoilers until tomorrow!
The original time was wrong! I'm optimizing for US East Coast audiences, I'm sorry!
That diner is not so bad.
I must say this, June is so cute!
24:20 Philadelphia NIMBYs' Windows is not activated LMAO!!🤣
If you really think about it, who's sold more tickets? The A380, or T. Swift?
I’ll have coffee with Flatbush team 😉
We see QM2 here in Southampton UK all the time
It is absolutely worth the patreon to see these a week early. $1? Come on! I'll stick around for a few more months even. Unlike jet lag for $5.
Thank you so much!
blue shirt guy and his hackneyed sports broadcasting platitudes NEEDS his own something. hilarious
Like maybe a podcast! youtube.com/@welltheresyourproblempodca1465?si=uSR4xe8GeAA5kXhJ
Miles, I dont think you heard it bc the helicopter was so loud....the Queen Mary 2 is the LAST Ocean Liner!!!! *cue jackson accaappeellaa titanic homage*
That A380 omg, only reason i liked
I will not activate my WIndows, thank you.
As a rule of thumb, if you're trying to get to points on the Rockaways east of the Cross Bay Bridge, take the QM17 not the QM16
as usual i'm 8 minutes behind because i completely lost track of time lol
The real question is what method did Uillia use?
She took the subway down before the release!
As much as I would take anything aviation if I could, Im starting to believe the Blade wasn't the best mode. Does that driver at the FBO only go to terminals? He could've at least taken them to Howard Beach Station. Or at least if they were required to use AirTrain, take them to Federal Circle. Idk. If I was the driver knowing yall had a race, I would've just taken you to at least Federal Circle, if not to Howard Beach. Doesn't make sense to me. Rant over lol
The driver can only take you to the airport, I believe!
6:04 lol this women is SO over it 😂
18:06 Well, that got dark very quickly.
It's 3AM my time but I have no sleep schedule anyway, so let's go! (at least it's not 5 or 6)
Bummed that the team with good fundamentals didn't win but I have faith that they'll wind up at least top five
THERE ARE STANDALONE AUNTIE ANNES!! I thought they were in mall only? I don't know if that's a good thing or a dangerous thing.
There are a few of them in Manhattan.
i'm not 100% an expert but this is one of the only times i dont get a pleasantly optimistic vibe like usual from jeremy, in this picture atleast
Is there an episode 3?
There is! And an Episode 4.
wow
@MilesinTransit also a stand alone origin movie for each team, a few combo prequels, and a spinoff TV series. Watch closely for post credits scenes and Jeb Brooks cameos.
Wow Miles you are good and teams. Do you still come to Philly much or not really to busy.
@@MilesinTransit Do we get episode 3 on the patreon tonight?
They should run the shuttle Rockaway Park to Far Rockaway
They did that after Tropical Storm Sandy when the portion of the A line over Jamaica Bay was flooded.
Miles can you please review the light rail/regional transit system of Sacramento California thank you
Someday!
12:56 a Coffee shop.
problem: im trying to make a highlights video
Google Chrome and my crappy internet: HAHA NO PAY FOR FIBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
How did Uillia get there before anyone else? That was clearly the fastest way.
Yeah, it is indeed faster to leave 20 minutes before anyone else...
Activate windows😂
17:30 a parking lot.
FUND DA MENT TALS
A train won but got off at broad channel instead the next stop
are the songs at the end jackson betz originals?
The Planespotting one is stock, but everything else is Jackson!
@@MilesinTransit the man has so much charisma and talent its great.
