    I was taught airbrush basics by an old boss of mine. Instead of taking the airbrush apart every time he had me spray the brush cleaner through the airbrush (usually into that little container) and then do the same with some water. I'd also fill a cup with water and dunk the front of the airbrush in and blow bubbles to help clear the path too. It worked great.
    We only really took the airbrush apart to change needles if someone dropped it or the few times people used it but didn't clean it so it got really clogged.
    I'm sure that's not a very professional method, but it's definitely a time saver, especially for people afraid of taking the airbrush apart so much!

      @Ruby_Mochii Před 2 lety +17

      Really handy tip!
      I thought it would be an absolute pain to clean it every time the colour gets changed.

      Thank you for this advice, this is the information I was looking for because there has been an easier, faster way to clean airbrushes, if that was the case having to take it apart and clean it every time to use a different color, it's just ridiculous.

    Benny, try using the Vallejo "Flow improver" instead of the airbrush thinner. The thinner is designed to make your paint dry faster which leads to more clogs. The flow improver is the opposite, and it allows you to keep on spraying for longer without clogs. I add some to every acrylic paint I use in my airbrush, even the premixed airbrush paints. Also people should know that the alclads have very toxic fumes, and need to be cleaned with lacquer thinner.

      Or use good quality airbrush paints instead. Tamiya, Gunze, Hataka Orange Line preferably with Mr Hobby Levelling Thinner. AK Extreme Metal for metallics. Clogging shouldn't be a problem

    Benni, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this video right now (even though I already watched it when it came out) because I got an airbrush for christmas that has been sitting around until almost a month later because I was so scared of trying it out since the instruction manual didn't cover anything like cleaning, so bless you (and Svetlana's advanced painting book) for helping a girl out! I was able to already create a decent gradient on my first try :D (let alone now blowing up the airbrush)

    Benni, I’m not try to be negative, you’re presentation is very good and you give good explanation as well.
    Please don’t take this the wrong way. My only comment which is easy to correct is that you have two moisture traps on your compressor. One is a combination moisture trap and air regulator and then you have another moisture trap attached before you get to the hose. The second one should be at the air inlet or base of the airbrush.
    Let me explain why, when you compress air it gets hot and when air gets hot it can hold more moisture then at room temp. So the air coming out of the compressor is hot and depending on where you live or time of year, it will be full of moisture. By the time it passes through your moisture traps it has not had a chance to cool off and for the moisture to condense so it flows straight past both traps. As it flows in the hose it has a chance to cool down and release the trapped moisture as condensation on the inside of the cool hose.
    By placing the smaller moisture trap at the airbrush the moisture trap will do its job and stop the condensed water from going through the airbrush.

      Hey... after a year how do you like that timbertech .... ive read it tends to over heat??

    • @psychotimo
      @psychotimo Před 2 lety +1

      @@dereksitko2622 yes thats correct. Its obviously most annoying in the summer, after about half an hour of almost constant use the compressor tends to become quite warm. The airbrush itself works lovely and although I'm sure there's better airbrushes out there, i would deffo recommend it to start with.
      As for the compresser overheating issues, I tend to make cosplay props as well as paint miniatures and i noticed that for larger props where you wanna airbrush a large surface, it's not the best fit and a better/larger compressor would be more suited, but for miniatures where you usually just prime/basecost a few at a time or use it for some shading and detailing it works quite well, since there's enough downtime for it to cool down. But as i mentioned, unless you live somewhere very hot, it should be able to handle 30ish mins of non stop abuse, which just means you need to take longer breaks between layers to ensure that not only the paint has dried (which doesnt take long with airbrushing IMO) but also so the machine cools down enough, so although it's far from perfect, its still doable and works well enough ^^
      Hope this helps ^^

    I have a question!
    Do I need good ventilation to paint with an airbrush?
    (I have a spare room in the cellar that I am thinking of converting into a hobby room, but I am worried that it's going to get really fumy in there and I end up having to cancel the whole project... are there fumes involved?)

    • @yetanotherperson6436
      @yetanotherperson6436 Před 4 lety

      It depends what paints and thinners you use. If you use the thinners shown in the video it wont be fumy. Lacquers and enamels are deadly. If you spray in a room for a long time you may find that a light paint film builds up in the surrounding area. Small particles of paint are bad to breath in, so I strongly advise wearing a mask. There are small, cheap spray booths that you can buy on Ebay if you have the cash and think you are going to do this again in the future. They are small though, so many projects wouldn't fit into them.

    • @johndillon5290
      @johndillon5290 Před 3 lety

    Thank you so much for this video. I just purchased my first air brush kit and the manual wasn't very helpful. I'm a true beginner and not artistic so I'm starting with the portable set. This will help with my Halloween & Christmas projects. I had no idea what the needles were for or how to change them 🤪😱. I didn't buy the cleaning pot ....didn't get the point, now I understand. BRAVO to your wife for encouraging you to make this video & thanks again for making it 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😃Now I can go play with my new toy with a little more confidence and understanding. ❤❤

    Hi Benny, my name's Chris & I just started airbrushing today for the first time.......I tried basic craft paint that I thinned with homemade airbrush thinner which I watched many other modelers make & I practiced on some foam core board. It's different & it takes some getting used to(like most things), I'm going to try it again for the next few days with different colors to get more comfortable. I build scale plastic model cars so I eventually will be spraying enamels & lacquers out of it, but I want to be comfortable when I attempt that. Your video was fun, helpful & informative & you have a great enthusiasm about you....which makes it easier to learn from you too, thanks much for the video......stay safe & God bless.

    Thank you so much for this information. Just started out with airbrushing. Feel a bit more sure about using it with these tips! (always stuck to using brushes but after discovering new hobby (mini diorama's, miniatures and painting modells) airbrush has now has a place on my desk!

    Great video! I find buying small cans of spray paint much easier than all of the set up and and upkeep involved in owning a spray gun. of course, you dont get to mix paints etc however I can usually find colors pretty close to what I need.

    I just got my Switzer airbrush system and tank, can't wait ti start using it. I will be using Enamel paints on plastic model kits. Eventually moving to acrylics for other models.

    Thank you guys so much for making this video! I bought an airbrush 2 years ago and just got really frustrated with it and it had been living in my closet unused for the past two years. I decided to pull it out and give it another crack and it went perfectly!

    The humidity device 🙀 I would have never thought!! And I'm not gonna try to discredit Germany's humidity, but I'm averaging 60-80 year round!! This video is so helpful in ways I didnt know I needed!!!
