  • A quick look at creating oil effects with both acrylic and enamel paints. The same technique can be used to create spilled soda on modern dioramas as well.

Very realistic looking oil. My question is: How do you create the oil spill rainbow effect you often see on the edges of fuel spills?

I would also like to know, if anyone finds any resources for that, post them here please.

Maybe a colorshift metallic paint heavily diluted so it breaks down?

In addition to the glossiness, do they have any of the iridescence that you often see with spilled motor oil or gasoline?

Yes, but more so with my recipe than any of the enamels. I think the original MIG Productions has the most iridescence of those products, but I think the color is too light a brown.

How about hydraulic oils and other colors?

GetSmart008 can you also cover zinc oxidation. I came across a specialized paint used for this in the theater/spec effects industry, but nothing for modellers.

GetSmart008 I'll see what I can do for zinc oxidization - that's fun too - but for other colors the gloss medium is just a vehicle for the color. You can make it any color you like.

Daler Rowney inks -- and it looks like amazon.co.uk has them listed.

Also check hobby/craft stores. In the states, michaels carries them, and routinely has 20-40% off coupons.
