Incredible, model and packaging you get a diorama and a super detail kit - a good modeler would have difficulty building it this well. Great to have engine displayed too. Plus the card and especially patch completes the ownership - all the patches on a jacket would be off the chart. Good to see you back. I think the hatch behind turret is part of cooling and sand filtration system.

At first I loved one of these- and I love the gun- but I think that I prefer one of the three tiger thanks, they are a little more detailed and has the jack and gear protection flaps. Thanks for the tip.

The large square plate behind the turret that hinges up that is the main air inlet for the radial engine which is air cooled. On either side of the rear hatch that you opened are to forward facing objects with a wire mesh. Those are air intakes which draw air through the side sponson where the fuel tank are. They pull any gasoline fumes out and into the engine to be burned. This reduces chance of fire from gasoline fumes.
Under the large air inlet is a sort of box that the side air intakes also feed into. The carburetors are also attached to this box. There is also a air inlet from the fighting compartment that pulls air through the interior of the tank.

You did compare the action series sherman to the new ones... the enthusiasts edition were much better, the second issue Bastogne sherman in winter camo / weathering was really nice.

There is a huge volume book about the Sherman tanks. It covers every model of the tamks. The different parts used to manufacture thevtank. It is mind boggling the different parts and which company what parts. The book can be found on Amazon. If you want to KNOW all about the Sherman, this THE book.

Another difference between te old and new is the old have two hatches on the top and the new one only one, the Walter sons seem the same model as the old 21cent toys version
