Shannon looked great in the “Waiting…” video and she still looks great 30+ years later.
Shannon’s smile in that video and her clear adoration and love for George was just lovely to watch!
These two are absolute geniuses when it comes to writing pop songs! Waiting On A Star.. is one of the best pop songs ever written!

So talented. So human .Fantastic to listen to and watch. Thank you all for this jnterview. 👌
I agree. It absolutely is. One of the most beautiful songs to come out of my coming-of-age generation: the 1980s.
Aww thank you so much! Such kind words.
@@boymeetsgirlmusic Probably my favorite song of the '80s. It always brings me joy every time I hear it! Just a masterpiece!
It was and is such a fantastic song. That sax player just blows you away - I can't say that I have heard any sax players on covers nail his style. It really made the song so much better.
Waiting for a Star to Fall is one of the greatest songs ever.
100 percent
Wow. Thank youuuuuu!!
Their song waiting for a star to fall was epic and still is today.
Thank you!
Lady & Gentleman.
This song still evokes emotions on a 68-year old.
Truly a masterpiece !

Our pleasure :)
These two people turned out to be as nice and sweet as I had imagined back in 1988. Nice to find out that cute, little girl in the video was theirs. Glad they are doing well. Great interview, really enjoyed it.
What’s amazing is how Shannon and George showed how love can be free and blissful with this song, time immemorial.
It's too bad they didn't stay married. They looked so good together in the Waiting for a Star to Fall video. It's great they're still working together.
I am glad they still work together.
I was a senior in high school when this song was released. 1989...It was brilliantly written and arranged, even though I was into different genres at the time. George and Shannon made the best song to close out the 80s.
Thank you so much! What a wonderful decade of music to be a little part of :)
Waiting For A Star To Fall... a song that defined the 80's, the period it was released. Those of us growing up in that period and trying to find our way would enjoy and be encouraged by such an upbeat song. Thank you for this interview!
I Love their song Waiting for a Star to Fall and believe it to be one of the Greatest love songs ever written and produced. Boy meets girl says a lot about it--their video for the song is incredible with the lovers writers together in it. You both were so inspired from the Heavens to write such a beautiful song and produce it. Love love love
George and Shannon are such a breath of fresh air. The song Waiting for a Star to Fall has weaved itself into my life and when I randomly hear it or see the video, it brings a love lost to mind and a tear to my eyes. Nothing like it.
Aww what a heartfelt message. it's amazing how music can make us all feel something.
I was SO happy to come across this interview! "Waiting for a Star to Fall" is one of my favorite 80s songs, and I had no idea that George and Shannon wrote for Whitney Houston. Great work!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe to my channel as more interviews are going to be added!
I Don't know where the waiting for a star song came from into my head in 2023. But now it's stuck. And a tip to all the record companies on how to make someone look stunning in a video. When she is dancing and swirling around. That is beautiful.
I wake up to “Waiting for a Star to Fall” everything morning! ❤
These two played a huge part in making the 80s as amazing as they were. They wrote so many memorable songs beyond the one they're famous for.
Waiting For A Star to Fall was a big hit in the summer of 1988. I can remember hearing that 3 times a day on a few different radio stations at one point. Just a solid, catchy, well-mixed tune with a good lyrical flow to it. Very much a pleasure listening to this interview with George and Shannon! Thank you Mere!
Beautiful piece of music.
Very emotional track. Brings back amazing memories.
The Whitney tracks are cultural cornerstones and forever will be.
Growing up in the 80,their song came out got me in love with your song .I ove it I wish I can go back in time
WAITING FOR A STAR TO FALL.. .whenever i listen to this song i feel still young!!! I love this song so much .. im 49..thank you guys for your Fantastic , Bameautiful music!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Well thank you for listening!
What a nice surprise to see these two underrated musicians interviewed & nice to see that they are still on good terms with each other.
“Waiting for a Star to Fall” was a perfect Pop song with it’s infectious melody & amazing energy back in 1988 & is still one of my favorites to this day. I also really liked their minor hits & Whitney’s songs as well. I had no idea that Robert Palmer was offered a song & that they sang on “Let’s hear it for the Boy”. Very cool stuff.
Anyway great interview and I hope to hear some more new material from them someday.
Waiting for a star to fall… It really is a perfect song. Thanks for this interview. I’m hooked on the song again and here we are in 2023
haha we love that!
Magical from beginning to end. So great seeing George & Shannon still writing music together. Even though they've both remarried different spouses. The selfish part of me, always hoped they'd get back together as a couple. Even though that didn't happen, I still believe they're soulmates. I was a junior in high school when this song came out. PERFECTION!
love that song 'waiting for a star to fall' since it came out and up to now my kids heard the song and they love it too
Loved this interview! Waiting for a Star to Fall has got to be one of the most "feel good" songs of all time! No matter how many times I hear it, it just makes me want to move! Besides being one of the best feel good songs there ever was, it gives me hope that it's never too late to find love, I guess I just have to keep waiting. ♥️
Waiting For A Star To Fall is an amazing, timeless song. I also love “No Apologies” as well. I probably play that more for some reason. That song just grips me for some reason.
Thank you for the wonderful music BMG . ❤❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶😎🔥
I’m so thrilled that George and Shannon continue to contribute to our world of music. Their words are still relevant in these times, and we need their music. Their music has especially touched my life these past few months… and I echo the sentiment that “I know you by heart” needs to be reproduced with their own personal touch.
Also…
George did a solo version of waiting for a star to fall at a private event that circulates on CZcams. It’s a simple piano cover, and I would just love it that was put down on a track in a studio for whatever “Open Sessions” album you decide to produce next!
Thank you for your kind words!
I remember when I bought Reel Life on vinyl a few years ago. I instantly loved the whole album, especially No Apologies. That song instantly gave me chills.
...pure class man. Total respect for these guys.
The music that you guys put out in the eighties was so uplifting, hopeful, and energetic, many I'm sure long for those days. Waiting for a star to fall was genius! Giving the sax the intro and bridge was soooo cool I used that same energy based on that song! You guys are an awesome team!
Always loved this iconic song, awesome interview good to see the two of them again.
My Star finally fell and caught it after 30 years ❤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for the amazing music that hits the soul with love and passion❤
Great interview Shannon still looks stunning..George ageing gracefully..two music geniuses ❤️
George is 67 and Shannon is 71. They both look great.
Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms, baby, yeah... ❤❤❤
This song will be listened to Eternity and Beyond...
Absolute an amazing song
❤✨🎷🎷🎷
They look great!
Very cool interview. God bless them for putting such beautiful and uplifting music in the best decade ever!
I wish I could go back!
Bless u Meredith!
Truly great and touching interview, full with incredible tidbits of music history! I cannot thank George and Shannon enough for bringing such joy back in the day, and for Meredith for bringing Boy Meets Girl to such a candid interview! Just loved it!
Hi...I'm a 80year old man form montreal canada wait for star is very romantic and warm song I ❤ it love u too
Three of the best pop songs ever written - not a bad achievement. Great interview!
Great writers and composers! “Waiting for a star to fall” is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Thanks a million!
Waiting for a star to fall is a HUGE SONG! epic track
Timeless Talent ! There's only a few handful of songs you will never get tired of listening to. Waiting For A Star To Fall is one of them!
Wow! This was such a great interview! I’m 50 and have been such a fan of this duo for most of my life now. I remember falling for Whitney’s two hits from Shannon and George but then when they released Waiting for a Star to Fall, I was absolutely in love. It wasn’t until I was an adult did I understand that they wrote all 3 of those hits. My Gawd, WFASTF is a perfect song!
Oh thank you so much. What a lovely message!
@@boymeetsgirlmusic I can’t believe you responded to my comment! I’ve never fan-girled in my entire life but I went and told my husband you responded and he knows what a longtime fan I’ve been. He said, “Babe, that’s awesome!” Thank you for being so kind!
Waiting For A Star To Fall...is the perfect song. If ever you feel down, just listen to this song and you won't be down anymore. Thank you.
I agree 💯!!!! Best song!!!
What a great interview by all...."Waiting for a Star to Fall" was the song that helped me get quickly to the deepest heartbreak I have ever experienced. I really needed to have a narcissistic element in me broken. I recently sent the song to this woman a couple of weeks ago and she sent me a very sweet msg back Letting me know she appreciated how much the song meant to me, and how it really helped me through that terriblly painful time... You never really fully get over something like that but through music I did survive it... Peter Gabriel's "In your Eyes" was a huge song for the healing part of my journey.. Another truly brilliant song ....so complex... .For a while I had to stop listening to "Waiting for a Star", but it has never been very far from the happiness I experienced with her.... But the key change in "Waiting for a Star" is absolutely stunning and the way it modulates is so well explained in this interview... Thank you both so much for this piece of music.... I love melodic sax solos and this one has it in spades... The whole song is a highlight for me and always will be!!!!!! Thank you Shannon and George!!!!
She's still a pretty lady! During the original video, she had that 80's girl style they all had back then. Just a great decade
Amazing! Love thier song! Blasting it now!
Thank you for this interview. Waiting for a Star to Fall, when I hear it just makes me smile every time. The video was awesome too. Awesome song. I have to hear it loud and dance. Thanks to George and Shannon. You both look great.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to go back in time, these guys are great!
Great song! Well done! Brilliant 👏
!
...I remember their FIRST hit, that others seem to forget , "Oh Girl"!! ..Boy Meets Girl actually helped the "Christian Rock" period that Michael W. Smith & Amy Grant benefited from, in 1989 onward, with "Waiting for A Star.." ...here's their chart peak, at #5 Pop, Dec. 1988... (CONT.)
10. Walk On Water - Eddie Money
9. Welcome To The Jungle - Guns N' Roses
8. How Call I Fall? - Breathe
7. I Don't Want Your Love (7" remix) - Duran Duran
6. Baby I Love Your Way / Freebird Medley - Will To Power
5. ***Waiting For A Star To Fall*** - Boy Meets Girl
4. My Prerogative - Bobby Brown
3. Giving You The Best That I Got - Anita Baker
2. Every Rose Has It's Thorn - Poison
1. Look Away - Chicago
I love BMG they are both amazing ..thanks for the wonderful interview.
I love this interview. great job interviewing these two greats😊
I’m a 80s kid, heavy metal guitarist, but one of my guilty pleasures is Reel Life. I just dig the melodies. Maybe my favorite is probably Is Anyone Out There In Love…”just hit me square!” Stormy Love is maybe number two. I got to tell George and Shannon this ages ago. Very cool to watch this. Edit: oh, Pizzicato Five. I saw them live in the 90s. Cool to hear BMG liked them, too.
Love this!
Boy meets girl interview about the album reel life thier songwriting inability are so talented and incredible I love these 2 songs from boy meets girl like if you run and waiting for a Star to fall to me in very usual way their music are tremendous and now boy meets girl making their new music
Even the video is great .
Great both of you talking about the creative process . great interview 👍
many people dont know that waiting for the stars to fall was featured in the movie "three men and a little lady".
This was a great interview! I'm glad that I stumbled upon it.
"Waiting for a Star to Fall" is one of those feel-good pop sings that i've never tired of. I still have my 45" single of it.
I was aware that they had written for other artists, but I didn't realize how many of their songs were big hits. I also wasn't aware of just how collaborative this former couple was. It's sweet that they were able to stay musically connected even after ending their marriage. Not a lot of people could do that.
"I Know You By Heart" is another one of those feel-good songs I love, but I had no idea it was their song. I totally agree that they need to put their own version out.
Again--a great interview!
Love this interview! I have followed them for a long time! Waiting for a star to fall is the best pop song ever written. Just my take!
Meredith hit the nail on the head in noting this is the perfect song sung by the perfect artists for that song. It's like a great movie that becomes a timeless classic because the producer selected the perfect actor for each major character. It's a huge bonus that George and Shannon seem to be wonderful people.
Advice for 80s music fans and Boy Meets Girl fans: a few years ago I picked up Boy Meets Girl's self-titled first album, and was blown away. On the whole it is every bit the equal of Reel Life. I highly recommend any fan of this era go find a copy of the self-titled album!
Suggestion for the compilation album: if not a huge rights issue, please include the original or a demo version of "Heartbreaker!" It's impossible to find on anything other than 7" single.
Thank You! Great timeless music! I can still see them running on the beach. Fresh as when released.
I really love these two. I still love thier music and love to see them again.
Love love love this song
OMG what a treat to watch this video ❤
I've never been a big fam of Adult Contemporary/Pop music, but "Waiting For A Star To Fall" is undeniably good. It was great hearing the production details with Arif Mardin's arrangement suggestions. It would have been easy for George and Shannon to think they didn't need an experienced producer with several hits under their own belts, but they didn't let their own egos or preconceptions get in the way of a great re ordinary amd the finished product speaks for itself.
Thanks for this great interview!
Shannon aged like fine wine🍷
i'm glad too that they did star!
What a great interview! Thank you!
I was wondering why they didn't keep more big hits for themselves. This is the first interview I have seen with them.
Wow...what a great interview..I just turned 61 .. I needed to see this,,,it made me smile....i still have the cassette...what an amazing smart pop song...one of the best
Wonderful to find this interview. George had an amazing vocal range and matched any tenor by the time even if he has a great voice still. Shannon has the words in the palm of her hand. This single has stayed with me since it came out. And no new artists write these iconic Melodies anymore themselves. God bless them.
Please release the demo!!! Love these guys!
If you run, Is anybody out there in love, One sweet dream, and Stormy love are such great songs!
Hi There! great interview Meredith. The music they created will never age.
I love them. Waiting for a Star to Fall is one of my favorite songs ever!! It makes me cry every time. So beautiful. They are indeed legends. Funny, I have that cassette single too.
I burst into tears every time I hear it too. It’s just so sweet, and brings back happy memories if a better time! ❤
Great job. They both aged well. Look forward to your future interviews.
Great interview Meredith! Thank you, that was fun ! 👏
Sheena Easton s song the lover in me has a great sax solo in there too. It's amazing how much depth the sax adds in a song.
Such talent! Thank you.
No Apologies is super dope!!!
Warm and tingly with magical old memories!
the story behind WFASTF is somewhat haunting now considering the loss of the Great Whitney Houston. Fabulous Fabulous woman. God bless these two beautiful singer/songwriters.
Waiting for a Star is one of the best songs ever!
Meredith Marx is hot, in her own right! Thanks for highlighting @boymeetsgirlmusic :) As a former radio interviewer, THANK YOU for not talking so much that you stole the show! You did great, Meredith!
Thank you. They were wonderful to interview.
Wonderful Interview!! Thnsk Meredith. They are sooooo cute!! u too :)
Aww thank you!
Undeniable talent.
what a treat! thank you
This was awesome. Great to see them on the same screen again.
I love you George and Shannon!
Kudos!
Tenho 57 anos e quando eu era jovem era muito parecida com a Shannon. Tenho até fotos minha e dela no meu Instagram fazendo a comparação. Não entendo muito inglês, sou do Brasil, pena não ter legenda. Kiss for you Shannon ❤
To All People.I Adore This Song
Richard
This is so cool. Songs brings back memories. Thank you
This was just such an incredible interview and incredible back story I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for this! Waiting for a star to fall is my favourite song of all times 😍
What a wonderful interview! I really enjoyed listening to all three of you and enjoyed learning about Shannon and George! Thank you so much for putting this out there for us fans! xx p.s. Wish "Five" was available to purchase on CD! Love the songs from it and listen to them on CZcams but would love to have a CD.
This was fantastic Meredith. Your appreciation for the two of them certainly shined through. To revisit a song that was so prominent while not knowing the history of it or this amazing writing duo was gift. Loved George mentioning Pizzacato 5, I love their song Twiggy Twiggy and Frou Frou, Let Go is always on my playlist. Going to listen to No Apologies right now. Thanks again for this wonderful interview.
I had the album "Reel Life" and even though I don't listen much to it these days I was struck by the beauty of their voices - both George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam - as well as the arrangements. Waiting for a Star to Fall is the ultimate late 80s feelgood song and I actually prefer their version of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" to that of Whitney Houston.
