    • @sabahk
      @sabahk Před 3 lety +5

      same. Every time I visit it feels so magical but then when someone asks me why I wouldn't move there I'm like "it would be way too stressful for me". I already live in a pretty big city and that's stressful enough so to live in New York would be that x10!! Also I want NYC to feel magical every time I go there and I know if I moved there it would lose some of its magic

      It's a bit extreme so it attracts certain personality types more than others. Like really ambitious, competitive, and extroverted people. If you have more of a "work to live" mindset or have social anxiety, it's not a great place. Likewise, maintaining an active social life takes a lot of energy, so many people, so much noise, have to talk so much, loud, and be more interesting than others to not get ignored. That said, it's got a lot of pros as well and the only comparable city in the US is Chicago, followed by Philadelphia. Chicago looks a lot nicer and isn't as intense but hasn't been a trendy city for decades.

    You forgot about the fact that New Yorkers don’t care if you’re famous or not unless they are huge huge fan but they will talk to you or get their picture and move on with their lives. But they treat celebrities like anyone else on the street. They literally do not care.

    • @AvivaRuth
      @AvivaRuth Před 3 lety +1

      lol not in LA!! Any time I go anywhere the question is what celebrities have I met. If I recognize a celebrity at a coffee shop, I personally don't do anything, but everyone else screams and makes a big deal and asks for an autograph.

    as someone moving to NYC later this year i really loved this video bc it was realistic without being dramatic if that makes any sense. like when people who have lived in NYC talk about living there they either sugar coat everything or make it seem way worse than it is, but they realistically explained that it is simultaneously a stressful experience, but also an amazing one.

      @ericllorens1734 Před 2 lety +2

      Not true, I’ve been to both cities and people drive much faster in LA. NYC drivers drive slow because the streets are so narrow, the streets are narrow in LA too but most ppl drive fast cars and drive fast and LA drivers drive good despite driving fast, they know how to maneuver around traffic on narrow streets while going 45 to 60 mph

    Speaking of the danger of being in NYC and not going at the NYC pace: When I was in NYC in high school, I sprained my ankle super badly the first day that we were there and was on crutches. We had to walk through Time Square at one point and of course I was having trouble keeping up with the pace of the crowd so a man completely plowed me over into the street (like I fully hit the ground hard, luckily close enough to the curb to not get hit by a car) and he glared at me and said "Get out of the way or you'll pay" while storming off and if that isn't the most NYC experience then idk wtf is.

    I'm a born + raised Angeleno, and I hate the LA culture. I can't wait to get out of here - I go to college in PA and I just visited NYC for the first time a few weeks ago! I hate coming home to LA for breaks because I don't have friends here - most of my friends now are east coasters. All my friends growing up were situational friends, and now that the situation is over, the friendship has withered away. I've been shot in the back so many times, after putting tons of effort in, just like Ryan was saying. I've also been a non-rich person at a rich school in LA for so long and it's hard because they're so loud about it - it becomes a divider. It was kind of nostalgic taking the bus on Hollywood Blvd last week, but it didn't have the magic that Times Square did for me, and that's simply because I grew up here in LA and I just find it obnoxious and gross now. I'm also a super gritty person so maybe I'd really like NYC! I loved this episode, thank you
