  • Early François Lecoultre cylinder box c 1826/ 28 playing two tunes on 3 revolutions. Here we here a bit of Mozart. Note the four blade governor. Would appear to have been in a clock base at some point in its life, now re homed in a suitable Antique Rosewood Box.

    I m wondering...why the governor does have 4 blades ?

I would guess that theoretically 4 blades would smooth out the spring’s power delivery opposed to two. From my experience I have seen tiny 4 blade governors on sur-plateau mechs. Also observed on some boxes by this maker & one of his contemporaries: Henri Capt. Three & four blades appear in certain later overture boxes. Typically Langdorf & Nicole. On the bigger units it appears to prevent stilted deliveries.
