  • Today, the Mopar specialist and Barrett Jackson host Steve Magnante takes a look at this 1969 Dodge Coronet Superbee Tribute. Is it faithful enough to the real thing?
    Watch until the end for cold start! Full Gallery on our website at: www.highoctaneclassics.com/ve...
    This 1969 Dodge Coronet has been restored to replicate a Super Bee A12. This built 440 six-pack engine mated to an automatic 727 transmission features an aluminum intake manifold, MSD ignition, headers, and dual exhaust. Fresh and very well done paint finished in orange with black striping and is accented nicely with a Six Pack and Super Bee graphics package. The whole package is brought together by blacked painted steel wheels and lift-off A12 hood. AM Radio and Firestone Redline Tires included.

    One of my high school teachers had that exact car in 1974, only I'm pretty sure it was real. Same color, 440 Six Pack/4 speed, only his had the Magnum 500 wheels with RWL tires. That became my dream car. Unfortunately I was never able to acquire one.

    Currently restoring a 69. A lot of people make a big deal out of the fender tag but a great number of these, including my own, have missing Fender tags. VIN number is also stamped into the radiator support, and other locations on the body. The fender tag really doesn't mean that much. If it is the only reason why you will not purchase a car, then likely there's not many you will buy, because so many of them are missing

    I have a 2007 Charger SRT8 Super Bee and the rear Super Bee emblem is all black. The Bee is colored on this car. Is that how they did it in 1969? Also, I think this would be called an A12 package with the fiber glass lift off hood?

  • @Deucealive75

    Why do they always specify "727"? Every big block that came with an automatic had a 727, performance car or not.

  • @googleusergp
    @googleusergp Před 2 lety +2

    Not to be picky, but if you're going to do a tribute, shouldn't you also put back any missing labels in the trunk such as the jacking instructions (If they were used back then)? Most times companies like Jim Osborn Reproductions make them. The details make the difference.
    Also, I think it's worth mentioning to see the fender/trim tag, even if this car wasn't a real Coronet Superbee originally. That and replace all of the burned out bulbs too :). I would think that the marker lights should be on when the parking lights are on. Probably just some missing/burned out bulbs, but all of that shows attention to detail.
    We got the VIN, we win: W for Coronet, H for High price class, 23 for two door hardtop, F for 318 V8 with two barrel, 9 for 1969 model year, G (not C as on HOC website) for St. Louis, MO assembly (Fenton) and the rest is the production sequence. No tag, can't brag.

    • @gregr1073
      @gregr1073 Před 2 lety +4

      1969 Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler cars did not have side marker lights, only reflectors. They had side marker lights in 68 and went back to them in 70. No burned out bulbs here.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp Před 2 lety

      @@gregr1073 Yup, I just read that, so I'll stand corrected on that item then, but there are some details that are missing/poorly done on this one. Butt splice connectors have no place under the hood on such a nicely done paint job/restoration and missing decals should be replaced to give it an authentic look.

    • @gregr1073
      @gregr1073 Před 2 lety +1

      @@googleusergp You are correct, it is a shoddy restoration in some ways and the sad thing is, I’m sure that the price won’t take that into account. By the way I always hated the fact that Chrysler cheapened out and went with reflectors for side markers in 1969 but I guess even then they were trying to save a few bucks. Hell, even AMC, who had no money put side marker lights on their cars in 69.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp Před 2 lety +2

      @@gregr1073 Before I would say "shoddy" I would say "lacks detail". If you're going to do a tribute like this, it should look every bit the part except for the trim tag and the VIN number. Aside from that, you shouldn't be able to tell them apart. Not the case here, and as you stated, the price won't reflect that. Everyone has "gold" now.
